Default How many comp. fans to cool a 150 watt hps in 1'X1'X28" cab?
Ok so i have this 150 watt hps i really want to get up and running. I need this to be very quiet hence cooling w/ computer fans. I have this Comair 115 vac fan that would be prime, but its loud as a motherfucker and it doesnt seem to react to dimmers, it was a light dimmer but i dont think it should matter. Any info on this would be great also.

ANYWAYS, i wanted to hook the light up with what i imagin would b effecient, 4 comp fans blowing on the light, Then one 12v radioshack exaust fan blowing air out of the box in a rectangular like cool tube of some kind of transparent material, so the air will be channeled out at a quicker pace.
Sound ok? will i need more?
or is there some kind of formula any of you know about that would help?

come on bros.. seriously any critique or anything? I really need expert creativity and experience, I know the light will be putting out quite a bit of heat and that this is quite the tiny, stealth maxed box, relatively. This is to all you stealth boxers out there, with exaust expertice. PEACE.

i had good luck with my 250 in a box using comp fans. I have 1 that exhausts from the top and one that i fitted to a small 3" flex duct that I duct taped the other end so the duct would suck from the side of the bulb(not under it blocking light). It will raise and lower with the light also. I had originally just the one fan but it was not good enough. The fans I use are 24v. I got them on ebay. I didnt use any intake fan I just had a spot for air to enter naturally. This might not work in your situation but it might give you some ideas

Could you give the dimentions of the box too? Just one 24v fan? Sounds great but again how big is the box. Thanks for the input. peace. Trippy avatar, like egyption style, nice.

One more thing, since my box is so small i need the plant to grow up to the light, 2-3 inches perferably and reasonably...

my box was 26x18 and i think 52 high. And no 2 fans. One just exhausting and then the other to pull heat straight off the light. and then one for a breeze. But like i said i was just giving you an idea, I have no idea if this will work for you. And im not sure about putting your plants only 2-3" away. I wouldnt go any closer than 6 but thats just me.

Hey cool man yeah i like to hear examples, it gives me ideas as you say. Yeah so i shouldnt need to many computer fans if thats all you need for your box. Good info.
And hey how loud are those 24v fans, the muffin fan right?, because i was thinking about getting a couple of those to, but need to keep it quiet like i said.

the fans can be quieter if you feed em less voltage. They are 24v but thats only saying 24v is the max you can feed em. So if you wire it to an old cell charger its like 3 or 6 volts i forget. I bought an ac adapter at walmart that was adjustable from 3 - 12 volts. To find the 24v power source you might have to go to ebay. So first i would try the walmart option. Then if its still too hot you can upgrade.

Default CFM vs Cubic Feet...
So PC fans go from 40-70 cubic feet per minute. That average is almost 1 cubic foot per second at 55cfm. You have roughly a little over 2 cf of space to remove air from to keep it cool. So 2 fans should do it but I would do 4 if the room the box is in has stagnant air...IE: a closet... You need fresh cool air in and port the hot out to somewhere else. I used my verticle fan and took it apart, the kind that look like a tower Anyways it has a dual squirrel cage type fan in it. I cut my box out for those two out puts and MAN the air moves in great. I don't even need to draw any out. I keep a constant 82f High and 72 low at night. The new plants I started are screaming upwards and outwards. Plus bone and blood meal with Superthrive has done it's pleasing work. I need to pick up some Guano tomorrow, wish I mixed it up before hand now I gotta work it in. Actually thats good cause I can add little by little each day and make sure I don't put too much in. All that stuff smells like CRAP coming outta my closet. Thats better than the neighbors coming over smelling weed though.
