i don't know what the best way is but i'll share how i do it. i have duct work running from outside the grow room to one side of the reflector and out the other side connected to a fan blowing out.

i use two fans - one fan for cooling the light and another for exhaust. i have my carbon filter inside my grow area connected to the exhaust fan so all the air coming out has to go through the filter.
if you're using only one fan, you'd probably have to attach the carbon filter to the exhaust fan on the outside of the grow area. so with only one fan, you'd attach ducting to an intake hole attached to one side of the reflector. duct work coming out the other side of the reflector to the exhaust fan blowing out into a carbon filter. but this would do absolutely nothing to bring in fresh air and expel stale air. i would highly recommend two fans (plus some oscillating fans inside the grow area too). |

I thought that if you have a fan that will move more than 3 times the air in your room you could hook that up to your light to cool as well...meaning filter hooked up to the light, then some ducting leading to the fan then ducting to the outside. That is assuming one light in a closet or something...because I thought smaller filters for these types of rooms recommend 200cfm or so...so I would thing that for a 100 to 150 cubic foot room say...with one 400 watt hps that you could use that setup with a 230-350 or so cfm fan. I hope so or I will have to get another fan...

you could probably get away with one fan - but i have a 1000w of lights and need to keep it cool. plus i don't care about the extra noise - but that might also be an issue for you.
gotta do what works for you! |
