cooling a 1000 watt light in a closet
I am currently growing a few plants in a spare closet, however, the temperature in the room is a big problem. It can get up into the high nineties and has peaked out at 111 degresss F!
i am running a 1000watt HPS in a silver star air-coolable hood but i am using an inline duct booter to vent. I want/need to step up the ventilation to either a squriell cage blower or a cheaper inline fan. My budget is extremly limited so I'm trying to find the economical option. I am looking at spending anywhere from 70 to 120 on a new fan, it needs to be able to be mounted on the wall and able to attach a carbon filter to. Any suggestions?

plug in a normal fan and sit it in the room.

i have a big box fan drawing air in and circulating it throughout the room, as well as the inline duct booster.
question. I have a digital thermometer/hydrometer. It has two settings, one for in and one for out. What is the correct setting to measure the temperature inside the closet? I know, technically, it's inside. However, theoretically, what we are doing is to recreate the outside indoors.

I personally don't think that the inside/outside setting on your digital thermometer/hydrometer would have any effect on the reading you see. Did you try both settings? Was there any difference?
For your ventilation problem,
What are the dimensions of your grow room?
How many cfm is your current inline fan booster that your using?(I think they're overrated, they don't move much air.)
What size fan/ducting are you using?
What kind of air intake do you have?
If you answer these qustions people will be able to futher help you.

If it is a remote thermometer then the inside temp is being measured by the display (the outside temp is the grow room).

the closet is 56 by 43 by 96 inches
i think that the inline duct booster is completly overrated and it is soon to be gone, i think i may use it as an intake fan.
im using 6 inch ducting to match the 6 inch ducting on the hood.
the intake is currently nothng other than leaving the closet door open (which it is while the light is on due to the extreme temperature) For security/sanitation reasons, the closet is far away from anywhere that anyone not looking for it can see it, as well as special precautions are put forth so maintain hygine (I.e. removing shoes, no other foreign objects in the room, proper hand sanitation.) I am getting paid friday, so that will be mostlikely when i buy the new fan, the leaves are getting progressivly worse and it needs to be done. The heat stress is causing the calyxes to grow upwards and outwards, looking cool but is a sure sign of heat stress. This is ultimately going to affect my yield signnificantly.

I'm looking into computer fans.. some are fairly cheap and rated for 70 cfm, with four of these, i think I should be good, the only issue is, like you, i want to attach the exhaust to an activated charcoal furnace filter.. I guess I'll let you know when I get set up
good luck

Best bet would be to go with an air cooler/ portable ac....
Check out air-n-water.com, they have a HUGE selection with prices ranging from $30 to full home ac systems...
Im waitin for my air cooler that I ordered, and my poor plant has been goin through a lot of heat stress..
