Stealth CFL Grow Room Design

Hello,

I've asked many questions and looked for much advice through people on here and reading and i think ive come up with all the components i need to set up my grow room ready for when i get a tad more money come in to buy the soil, nutes and seeds :D

Ok if all goes well ill be supporting the inside with brackets and converting my chest of drawers into a stealth box. This is how i plan on doing it

Chest of drawers is roughly 28 inches wide, 25-26 inches height and 15-16 inches depth.

- First i have to try and support top of drawers as word has bowed so the door fits snug
- I will then cut 3 pieces of plywood out to strengthen my drawers 2 for the back of drawers, 1 piece for the bottom and the last bit for my stealth door ( will look sweet if i manage to pull off )
- I will remove all the draws then support frame a little bit for durability
- I will remove the face of all 3 drawers ( which is what the handles r attached to ) and ill screw these into the piece of plywood earlier fromt he inside so u cant see the screws from the outside
- I will then place the hinges on the inside of drawers and attached to the new covert door ive made ( from the outside it will hopefully look like 3 sets of drawers still with handles and everything but infact its a solid door :D )

I plan on using 3 pc fans for now maybe more will be needed not sure yet, one will be on top of chest of drawers which the sound system will be in front to cover from prioring eyes but will not block air flow ( outflow fan ), and the last 2 either side of drawers near middle of depth to keep the box cool ( inflow fans )

Im planning on hangin 2 surge protectors from the ceiling of drawers with 8 bulbs attached

I know it maybe hard to understand what i wrote above but im kinda tired from work :D

Ok equipment i plan on using and prices hopefully :D

Total - $125.84/£77.77 ( fingers crossed thats right :D )

Thats all my parts tog et started apart from filters which ill get at later date, flowering bulbs which again later date, and the plywood.

I have not ordered anything its all sitting in cart :D wiating to be purchased if all looks well and sounds well from you guys/girls.

Ok what im looking for from people with experience and knowledge is

- What u think of my plan for design?
- what you think on the equipment i have choose?
- Would u recommend i change anything if so what to and why?

Bare in mind this if my first grow i want it to be fairly good groth and learning wise aswell as not a great expense.

thx

just briefly read over the plans, hard to say it always looks good on paper, the best thing is to just get right to it. you wont know till you try. i recommend going to home depot and looking for 2 bigger lights. if you swap out those 2 100 watt equivalents for 2 300 watt equivalents, i guarantee your outcome will be much more successful. good luck! ill check back if you have any more questions

Everyone suggest Home Depot but they do not deliver to the UK its impossible to find anything over 23 watts in UK shops and its also hard to find anything over 3000k colour tempature, all the items above have been changed due to them wanting £60 pounds roughly for the items than £56 to transport them to me :O !!!!

So atm im going with

10-12 fixed angled batten holders
10-12 BC to ES converters
2 AC to DC charger adapters
4 120mm pc fans

Ill probably make a wooden shelfs to hang with chains and hooks which the holders will eb attached to at all different angled so all plants and box get good light cover

I priced up the wood today £13 for all the wood plus extra to finish cabinet for stelaht, few quid for hinges and little bits and bobs

Only this im stuck with is the 23/42 watt 5000k+ CFL bulbs there impossible to get in UK and i cant find nowhere thatwill delvier without taking the piss, soon as some part scome ill be cracking on with things :D

I wish I could give some good advice here....Started trying to grow a while back, got everything from home depot. I didn't do m research like you so I spent some money here and there. I tried using a single 27W Daylight almost touching a cilantro, not medicine plant. It did nothing, but it was only one. Just today without even reading this thread, I bought a 2 way splitter (if that's what they're called) so I can put 2 bulbs in one socket. I'll see how it's working tomorrow and let you know.

Where did you find your 43W bulb? At home depot? I found nothing in a cfl over 30W but it was a 3500K. How did you set up your fans or are going to? I'm entirely unsure how I'll do it. There is a "Philips Plant light 'Agro-Lite'" at 50W, 75W and 120W. In one day it seemed to work fine, caused a flat 6 leaf, 3 week old sprout to finally stem about 1 cm. I was thrilled. I also covered the inside of my starter box with foil.

in the uk best place i found for cfl's is herehttp://http://www.homehydro.co.uk/index.php/lighting/low-energy-cfl.html only the lowest watts thay sell is 125 watts but then u should only need 1 thay also do red/blue (purple spectrum) so u only need 1 bulb from seed to harvest and only £5 per order for delivery hope this helps

Stoneyhomer thanks for that tip ill go look them up now, i found some daylight bulbs but there 23w and £5 each so going to be expensive

Smoto i havent found anything above 23w in shops 40w+ are more common on the internet for UK but they are only on soft white and the daylight ones are like gold dust ( someone elses words :D ), witht he fans ill be connecting 2 fans to a 12v 1A AC to DC adapter nd ill do the same with the other 2 fans. This way ill have 4 fans running hopefully using 2 plug sockets on a extension cable, for the bulbs i was thinking wiring 8-12 23w cfl lights to one plug is dangerous so ill be doing the same as lights, ill be wiring 4-6 lights up to a single plug socket and ill do this twice. So in total im thinking ill have 4 plugs which will be all i need unless i decide to get another fan slighting bigger for inside for air flow inside and for stem strength.

thanks

:( I really hope you have better luck than me in this. I told you that I just yesterday tried 4 cfls.......my box is about 2'-3' lined in foil, no vent except for an open top....There was just too much heat. I tried doing the "hand test" to determine whether or not it was a comfortable temp and it didn't seem to be too much, but for the little one it way :( I lost 2 leaves to crispiness. The temp inside the box was around 96 or so degrees F. I went back to the 120W grow light with 2000 hrs on of life on it. I have no clue how people are setting up these little 12v fans, at least for the wiring. I read somewhere about a transformer or something but that means nothing to me. If you can put anything you're doing in a basic term so someone with no rewiring knowledge might be understand, I'd appreciate it. When you start growing, keep me updated and maybe take a pic of your setup? I'd like to see it.

Well i officially know where im getting all my stuff from, some ordered some picking up tomoz probably and some more ordering in the week. I will be using either PVC tubing or a plank a wood yet depends if i can set the PVC tubing up :D ( not much of a handy man ), the back board to the dresser will have 4 fans 3 in the middle blowing air in and 1 on the top board of dresser blowing the hot air out all 120mm fans. The fans as i said i will buy some 12v 1A ac to dc adapters for a couple fo quid each and wire 2 fans up to each very simple i believe theres many links to videos on this site showing exactly how to do this. The lights ill try and attach chains to so i can dangle them 2-3 inches above plants at all times. Im hoping all goes wrong i will be putting just plain pots fo soil and that in there and testing heat and humid before i start growing so i dont kill the plants because the heat.
