Dresser Stealth grow HELP!!!!!! Ideas Needed

I am a medicinal user in California and would like to start my own stealth grow.

I have a fairly decent budget to do this.

I have a short 6 drawer dresser, but I am thinking about getting a tall dresser. Should I?

My plan for the lights are about (8) 42w cfls for veg stage and would like to put (2) 150w HPS or maybe even a 250w HPS for budding along with a few cfls in the right spectrum. Does this sound about right? Should I use more or less?

I know that I need fans and I understand where to put them, but the biggest problem I am having is sound. I need to know how to make this grow SILENT. The grow quite possibly could be in my Master Bedroom, due to the fact that the only place that is out of the way and access to electric with temp control would be in my bedroom. Any suggestions?

What about a carbon filter? I found a easy way to make one with activated carbon, but where do I put that in the dresser?

I will be using Mylar to cover the inside. I have a temp/hygro meter.

I have been researching Stealth grows for awhile now but before I jump in I would like some input from some of the experts I read about. I plan on doing a journal. I have many more question but would like to start somewhere.

Thanks a lot for your time and knowledge

I have a 4year old and a wife that is on the fence about the idea of growing inside. The garage was good but temp management would be hard.

Those are great, I havent seen ones like those yet.

The thing is the dresser i have is (LxWxH) 49"x17"x29"

I haven't found pics of a grow in this type of dresser. I just need to see one and I think I could figure my own out.

How quiet is it? or how do I make it quiet? Won't there be a hum of some sort?

Can I put 1 or 2 150w HPS in there? I'm sure I can get all my cfls i want. Can I get a 250w HPS? would I have to do ventalation/cool the lights?

CFL is the way to go for your setup. If you have an HPS, you'd really need a powerful inline fan to exhuast the heat (noise). Check out the CFL section for some ideas...

I recommend 42W CFL's as they have the highest lumen/watt ratio. They do put off a little heat but nothing some PC fans cant handle. Your main concern though will be smell. If it's in your master bedroom, it's very important that no smell escapes. There are many DIY carbon fitlers; you can use ONA blocks, etc.

I grow in my closet (my wife has her own thankfully ;)) and I tried as hard as I could to make sure she couldnt see, hear, or smell the grow area. Even though she's completely cool with me growing, it keeps it off her mind.

Yes it will make some noise but I have found that it usually sounds off in the distance. I think an HPS is more suited to this type of grow because it is so much easier to cool with a cool tube than to try to cool a whole box.

Heat still comes off a cooltube. I have a 400W in a cooltube and its hot 1-2 inches away. I can get the plants about 5 inches away from it without problems. Saying HPS in a cooltube puts off less heat than some CFL's is somewhat misleading though... :peace:

Ok well there is my box in the picture above. I had to scrap the cfls cuz the temp was 96. Now it has a 400 with a cool tube and it is 89 so where am I misleading anyone?

What about 150w hps? don't they screw in to a regular socket?

I need as much head room as possible because of the size of my dresser(i dont think i have enough). I will be attempting to LST my grow. I just want to utilize all my space as best as possible.

If i have to go completely CFL how many of 2700k and 6000k do I need? I want to use the cfls the best I can during budding too. I know what they say about cfls not producing quality results, but they can do pretty good. Using cfls was my intitial idea anyway.

There is no wiring to worry about. It is kinda like a shop light but more in tune to growing. they are more efficient than a cfl and you use more of the light due to the light being on a flat, broad plane rather than the filament being twisted around itself resulting in most of the light requiring a good reflector to be usable. Just more direct, efficient and practical.

you could check prices on the lights but i lst my plants with 6 23 watt bright white lights per plant and got 2oz and a couple grams off 3 plants but since you have a good budget you said you could probably get more lights and good nutes. cfls are better for your setup cause you dont have enough head roo for hps theyll burn your plants and heat is less of an issue

yeah 42 watt cfls are the bomb! little heat and good lighting I only have one pc fan to blow out exhaust into a fan powererd carbon scrubber

thanks for the input
I started demo today of the dresser. I'll post pics tonight.
I think i have decided to go with T5s atleast 4 bulbs. for about 3-4 plants
as of now I have 47 3/4"x 15"x 28 3/4"

I'm gonna take a break now SMOKIN' but the exhaust holes go where?
intake bottom right and outtake top left?
