Hi I was wondering if anyone here has ever bought a light fixture from a remodel job done on a building. A hanging HPS or metal halide light fixture. Im wondering if my closet is big enough to fit this kind of light. Dimensions are 7'Hx4'Wx2' deep

What watt HPS or MH should i run in this size room?

the problem w/ a light from a bldg is most are highbay light fixtures so they are meant to throw most of the light down- like almost straight down. covering an area 1.5x1.5 at most when mounted a foot above the plants. all the guts can be removed and used( see Convert a common home security light into a remote ballast grow light )
for your closet I would go w/ a 400 watt HPS or if you can find one,a 600 watt hps

go 600 watts 30cm above canopy u will get better results with this light and distance than any other 1000 watter inc

Hey there Growing09,

My buddy in town uses one of those hps non grow light from a building. They pretty much work the same way and as madcow mentioned, they don't have the ideal reflector, they still emit the correct bands of light you're looking for.

The down side, is that you MUST modifiy them and remove the ballast from the light and make it remote like a traditional grow light, otherwise you'll have heat well over 100 F.
