Default How to operate HPS & MH bulbs??

Hey guys.

I bought some hps and mh bulbs, screwed them into the socket and plugged it in.
It didnt work.

I tried googling and all i see is that i need something called a ballast?

can somebody explain to me how to operate my hps and mh bulbs?

yesw you need a ballast and a socket. the ballast has te correct voltage to fire your bulbs. some digital ballasts will fire both metal halide and high pressure sodium bulbs. mosts ballasts will only fire 1 or the other.

if you looking for a cheap way to do 1 or the other go to htg supply for some cheap setups otherwise you can shop around to find a ballast that will fire your bulbs. what wattage are you bulbs by the way?

the MH's 100 watt, but i've got 2 of them and the HPS are 150 Watts, i also have two of those
