Wow, I love my Lumatek. You guys have some messed up grow shops. I have been to two around here. The one down the hill from me is a bit pricey on some stuff, but they are super friendly. The old man that owns it is crazy, but seems to know everything, his kids work there, and they couldnt be any nicer.

Got my 1st lumatec just over a year ago. Have 3 now. Dont think I will buy anything but for now. Put a 2 buck dollar store fan blowing across the top of it while on, wont even know its there. And compare it with one of you mag ballast after you get it. Plug one in and go look at the power meter, vise versa. Noticable difference. And when it fires a bulb, its lit pretty much in 30 seconds or less, bright in 3. Less cold start time means better bulb life. Plus the even flow of current they supply the bulb. Yet another life saver. You may also want to check the new gens out. See they now have a switchable (400/600/1000):bigjoint:

I ordered six 1000w 240v lumateks. Just waiting for them to show up now.......
I've used Lumateks in the past without much trouble, but just recently one of my bulbs exploded all over my room. Tell you what, I was ticked off.

I haven't really been finding that others have had that experience, but I'm wondering if maybe there's a better bulb I should be using?

That one experience has me a little shaky, even though I've been growing for years without any troubles.

:peace:

I'm good friends with the guy that owns our local grow store and told me he's had a few Lumatek ballasts returned recently. The good thing is the company replaced the ballast ASAP, no questions asked.

He pushed me towards the Galaxy for $40 less. It's my first digital ballast and I couldn't be more happy. Listening to my plants grow without that buzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz, is very pleasant.

The Galaxy digitals are just as good. I've had 4 Infinity 1000's (same company) and one each of the 600 and 400 Galaxy's all running for 2 years straight. Only 1 blown fuse on an Infinity which was easily replaced.

They stopped making the Infinity a little over a year ago and replaced it with the Galaxy. They got rid of the ballast fan and use more heat sinks now.

Both companies sell basically the same thing now days. Either one will work fine. I love 'em cause it makes it so easy to change from MH to HPS in seconds.

the 120/240 models of either brand are the way to go. that way you have the most flexibility out of your ballast.

Wait, so your 12 magnetic ballasts don't trip the breaker but the 12 digitals did? Weird.

Does anyone know if there's any RF interference from either of those two brands?

... lumatek doesnt make dimmable ballasts. Quantum has the only dimmable ballasts that i have seen. somthing else was going on with your breakers trippin, or so it seems. i would have to say from what i have seen in person and what i have heard from growers who do use them quantum is def. not the way to go. i am happy with my galaxy. found it on cl for cheap too.bongsmilie
again my two cents

I've got five 1000w 240v as well and they all have a knob that allows the user to select the light output that they wish.
I however am not sold on my purchase with all the negative words I hear about digi's in general.

just saw the dimmable versions they are putting out.... why use that feature? same wattage dimmed is just less lumens/heat... so unless heat is an issue i say dont mess with dimming.
