Hi guys, i am here begging for help as i am a complete retard and cannot understand the wiring diagram for my 250w hps ballast. It is a thorn ballast with 3 screw ports and i have a ignitor with 3 wires coming from it and a capacitor with 2 wires, also a 3 wire flex. I have googled it and all the diagrams i find are different coloured wires to what i have. If some one can help me i will be eternally gratefull.

The wires should be marked, isn't there writing on them?

exellent diagram, but what is the black and white coming from the plug? which is live and which is neutral? i have brown and blue.

that makes it harder as you guys use diferant color codes,voltages ect. does the ballast have letters next to each terminal? X1,X2,X3?
and do you have a light socket for the bulb?

neutral is blue, hot is brown.

yes it has 1,2,3 on the terminals, and yes i have a e40 socket

w/out having a good picture of your wiring diagram,I will be winging it so double check to your wiring diagram.
1 -the blue wire from your plug should go to the ignitors #2 terminal along w/ 1 wire from the cap (-either 1 it wont matter.) along w/ the wire for the socket that attaches to the base(not the center tip)
2 -the brown wire from your cord should go to the ballasts voltage in & the unused wire from the cap
3 - the wire#3 from ignitor should go to the ballast (term on ballast should say x3 or ignitor
4 the lamp terminal (or load) of the ballast will go to the center post of the socket & to the ignitor terminal #1
ground the ballast & hood.
