Default Grow Room Project Build - Construction!
Howdy all,

Finally was able to get all (OK, most) of the goodies together I needed to get this project off the ground and off to a good start.

Today I'll be building the Veg and Flower rooms, and hopefully by tomorrow the room will be ready for it's initial grows. (Got clones from a buddies plant to get me rolling arriving Sunday, so got to Get 'Er Done!)

Here is the room, cleaned out and ready for work to begin:

First pic is taken from the doorway, camerma held inside the room

Here is a pic taken from the other end, camera held against the back wall.

First step was to line out where the walls will be, and begin the build. I'll take more pics as the day goes on, and more progress is made. (No place to go but UP from here )

First to go in will be the flower room, at 5' X 7'

First day went about as expected, but I didn't get as much done as planned. I got a late start after helping the wife with a few chores, and worked about 6 hrs. on it.

Tomorrow I've got all day to myself, so should be able to finish both rooms.

Started off the day making final determinations where the walls would be built to house both a veg and flower area, with enough room left over for a small computer desk and a working bench area for repotting, etc.
Finally determined that the stud distances on the opposing walls were uneven, so had to really work a design that would get sufficient support from what I could tie into. Room also has a 1 1/2" difference in floor-ceiling height from one side to the other...makes it challenging setting verticals. Got through the worst part though, and the sloppy corners will all be covered with trim boards.

Since the wife and I both hate the dreary winters here (sometimes ya don't see the sun for a couple weeks, or more) we are going to use the small remaining portion for a ceiling corner mounted 250 Watt MH to be used as a sun lamp while we relax and catch a show on the tv. Figure I've got the space, why not?

Decided to make the flower room a full 5 1/2 ft. X 7 1/2' ft. Had to a make it a bit bigger than I first considered, but it will be doing more than just the odd months crop of herb for me. Wife and I plan to do some winter vegetable gardening along with my grows, as I only need to harvest 4 plants once every other month for my illness. Got a lead on some killer peppers, and hope to be munching hot salsa and chips by Christmas

I bought a dozen sheets of a cheap vernier 1/4 ply to line both sides of the wall to give a good surface to attach the Panda film to. I've got a 100' roll, that should more than cover the 2 enclosures.

Here's where I left it tonight...

Tomorrow I'll add on the smaller 4' X 5' Veg room, and start building the doors for both.

I can see this isn't your first day with construction projects. What are your plans for electric outlets? Might want to consider that before finishing the wall venners and any plumbing you are going to use. Extension cords and plumbing lines can be a pain to work around once the walls are up. VV

Hi VV,

Sound wisdom on getting the power run. I planned for that ahead of time, and did some horse-trading with an electrician who is going to come in and professionally install 3ea. 240V outlets - 2 for the ballasts and one for a wall mounted heater. I have 100 amp. service to this room, so shouldn't have any power shortage problems. Our 250W MH Sun lamp will be run on 120v, as it won't be costing me as much to operate and won't be on but for an hour here and there.

I've seen a few walls built before in homes I had built, but this is the first time I've ever tried to do it myself.

Home_Grown,

Here is what came out of that space and relocated to my main garage room, including the bench, fridge and all that crap on/in/around the bench. Took me 2 full weekends of 10 hr. days to accomplish that task, first.

Slept in, so won't get to the room for a bit while I wake up. Will provide another update tonight. I can taste those peppers already! (not to mention the sweet herb that will be the first in the flower room..

i dont think you should have built that wall, that whole room looks nice for a flower room. If you say you can get clones from your friend just make that whole room into a flower room and switch lights from mh/hps when the time comes. Plus That means you get that much more extra room to flower meaning more yield so that will equal out your time that you'll have to veg or whatever room it is your building.

And to keep electricity cost done if your going 24 hr on vegging when you switch to 12/12 you can double that wattage your using to produce more yields.
