Fan help,air cooled hood?
I just got a 4x4x6.5 grow box from HTG
I am going to be ordering a 600 watt hps with digital ballast, as for the reflector i want it to be air cooled but im not sure how well they work, also Cooltube vs eurocooler , i dont think i am going to use co2 this grow but how big of a fan will i need for the whole tent
here is what the box has
THREE 6 INCH Vent Ports are on the top, TWO 5 INCH Vent Ports are on either side and TWO 4 INCH Vent Ports are located on the back of the grow tent.
and how many cfm am i gonna need?
and where can i find a cheap inline fan?

4x4x6.5 = 104 f^3 (If my math is right?)
So you have 104 cubic feet. If you want all of the air in the tent to be pumped out every minute you would need a fan with more than 104 cfm or a combination of several to get this much.
I think I did this right... If someone sees an error or thinks it needs to have something to replace the air faster than every minute, just correct me.
Also, I doubt you would need an inline fan. Just get several exhaust fans together. They create a negative pressure in your grow box/tent and will thus cause air to be sucked in as fast as it is being shot out... Just put some pipe or whatever through those holes to let the air get sucked in.

Correct on cubic feet.......but you will need a serious fan. I have the same tent as well as a 600w light and it needs some major cooling to keep it a stable growing environment. Don't get those 30$ fans that HTG sell. They are made purely for airflow and would not work well for cooling your entire tent. If you want to go a regular grow i.e. horizontal go for the Eurotube. I have been to HTG store and they recommend it over the cooltube. They say it better reflects light and still easy to aircool. But I would suggest a legit fan i.e. vortex or cage fan of 265cfm or more for a 600w light. Especially if your going to run a carbon filter (which you should) those cheapy fans are not made to work in conjunction with carbonfilters and would end up pumping less air than rated if there were attached. Just do it the right way.....I know its more expensive, but in the end when your plants are healthy and your not getting but raped because if the smell you will thank yourself. So I suggest 465cfm (its only 30$ more) so it will be well strong enough to cool your tent and filter your air. No problem.
If your going to do it.....do it right. Don't just half ass your set up. Think of it as an investment in your future. Like college....... but with a more rewarding return

I know I'm starting to sound like a broken record with this, but I can't reiterate enough that if you decide to use a cooltube, you're going to lose quite a bit lighting performance. Those "batwing" style reflectors have proven to be the worst at putting light down on your plants. Only thing worse is going with no reflector at all. As far as recommending a good inline, stick with Can-Fans over Vortexs. I've used both and my 8" Can-Fan is actually quieter than the 6" Vortex. The 6" Can-Fan HO (high output) wouldn't be a bad choice either. You're not going to have to move all that much air, but for the difference in price, it's better to have more than less in case you decide to upgrade to a larger setup at some point. Fan speed controllers are always handy too. I use one for my Max Fan based on outdoor ambient temperature. (intake)
