My 120w LED produced the below plant with a basketball sized root system in 35 days (from seed cracking) and cost me about $4 in electricity while doing it:
Needless to say there is a lot of misinformation out there about current LED technology. Feel free to drop by my journal for more info. Last edited by 206; 04-23-2009 at 02:13 AM.. |

check out http://www.ledgrow.eu/ it is a great website run by this guy expirimenting with leds. he has all his grow ops dated and pictures of his setups and everything. theres even a DIY section if you want to try it out for yourself. if you look at his first few times growing with leds, and the amounts were pretty skimpy, but now that he knows how to do it correctly he is growing his plant hella fast and effeciently, using only 60 Watts of power for a 3x3 foot area with 24 plants and they grow like crazy. Not to mention hes not even done expiramenting with them. Just like brick top said, its all about having the right equipment and the right know-how.

LED is a good way to avoid paying a reasonable price for grow lights.

they are a good idea if your really that concerned about heat... but there are some good alternatives to the heat issues without going the led route, like air cooling the lights and running the vent in to your hot water heater vent is a good way of getting rid of excess heat without raising eyebrows, if you have say a 2-3 bedroom home then 2400 watts is within the safe zone, generally figure that for every bedroom of the house you can run 1k worth of lights and be under the radar, only go with led's if you are doing a small personal garden as you willl not get the large dense nugs you will with an hps, but yeah a few 600's is not really enough to raise alerts at the power company so just pay bill on time every month and you will be good

Spike TV has that show DEA. Someone informed on a grower and so they used FLIR to get a warrant. The cheif said in his 16 years he'd never seen anything like that (pretty much a normal high tech basement grow). Anyway this was Detroit and the cops were even saying they are positive these grows exist all over the city but FLIR is just too expensive to go around checking out house by house. They didn't even try to take a few extra minutes to scope out the rest of the block. Without telling anyone, paying your bills on time and ALSO using IR BLOCKING sheeting to cover your grow area will for sure keep you in the clear.
Becareful venting humidified air under your floor boards or into your attic... that will just cause all sorts of problems for the structure of your home and promote mold growth. If you care about what were you live that isn't the best idea. This is my idea that I've seen others use on this forum : duct your exhaust tubing to a window AC unit. You take off the front and adapt the tubing to where the rooms air is supposed to vent out through. From the outside it just appears to FLIR that your AC is running even if its not.

best idea i've seen yet was an exhaust vent coming from a basement grow going out of the house and into a compost bin.. the compost gives off heat while it also blocks most of the smell.... needless to say there is a screen to keep bugs and litter out of the ducting but it's pretty sneeky

Last month in High times they did a review in controlled inviroment to see how LED fares to HID MH and HPS. Pound for pound (or watt for watt) the LED did better. They work great. They do it with almost no heat. They used the UFO from HID Hut. The main problem with LED is the penetration. They don't always have enough light to reach the lower part of the plant. They do work and they work great. They are expensive though. If money is not an object then use them.. I want to make the sitch and get the Supernova enhanched spectrum but it's freaking expensive. So until then I just use my T5HO and they do good enough for me. I just grow for me and they do the job nicely.
Just get last month high times and see the comparison and read a controlled study. they used the same resevoir, same room just sectioned off. We can all debate it all we want but only actual testing will prove anything. |
