    Default 12v fan wiring?

    Hey RIU,
Today I found a 12v fan but it has 3 wires coming out of it, can it still be used or is it no good? It came out of an old computer of mine if that helps.

You only 2 of those wires for it to work and it will only work if you connect the wires properly. You just need a 12v batter charger and you're good to go.

One of the wires is just for grounding, you don't need it. I used an old phone charger (near the plug it says 12V). Cut the main insulation and you'll prolly see 3 wires in there too. Just play color match, that usually works. Don't smoke before attempting this. Or do whatever.

Another thing that works is taking the power supply out of your computer. Just plug the fan, or fans, into the supplied lines. No cutting involved, although a power supply in the grow area is kinda bulky.

The wires are power ground and rpm. The wire colors is red black and yellow. The red for power and the black for ground and the yellow is rpm. The rpm is not needed at all. That wire was for the mother board to monitor the speed of the fan. If you look around the house u should find 12v charger laying around. Just make sure you put the power to power and the ground to ground. Most of the chargers indicate that on the wires. I have one right now that I am playing with that is on a dimmer so I can slow it down or speed it up . I hope this helps.

i just did the same thing today wired up 4 12v cpu fans to the side of my mdf box its workin sick but i smoked one fan up because i was high and figured i could connect it directly to DC lol i ended up cutting the end off of the charger for an electric razor thats long gone. it says on the bottom " 100 - 120v in" 12v out i just used the black and red wires from each and viola! bet you got it figured out already by now though
