Question about my light.

ok so 1 of my lights and bulbs I have a question about. I bought a bunch of used lights, one in the whole bundle was a 1000 watt hydro farm. I also got 3 1000w Slyvania bulbs...they came with the light for free, i heard someone talking on here about those bulbs being bad.....here is a link to the bulb specs

im sure thats the same one looks the same and same package, is it a good bulb?..anyways I kicked the thing on and man was it bright....like i caught the sun and have it locked in my room. ....I had 12 tomato plants (REAL tomato plants) under it for 6 hours today the seemed to really like it.

My second question is about the hood or reflector ....it has one 4" ( i think id have to measure) hole for ventilation...how would I go about doing this???? A box fan keep the room at 79f and the room has a vent that leads to the room next to it...so i guess the temps are not so bad.

one more question ....is it possible to use a 1000w all the way through growth....I mean maybe 2 weeks after seedling?....maybe thats a stupid question.

1.) The sylvaina lights are gerneral purpose lights. They will work but for the best results you should use bulbs that are built for growing plants.
2.) If your asking how to vent your hood then this is what you need: http://www.htgsupply.com/viewproduct.asp?productID=52557
3.) It's completly possible to grow with a 1000w bulb. The only thing is that in vegetative growth the plants like a cooler spectrum of light, around 6500k. HPS bulbs do not reach this spectrum only MH, CFL or fluorescent lights will give your vegetative plants the correct light spectrum. For flowering HPS is the bomb digity.

Your current ballast will not run a MH bulb unless it is built for running MH/HPS bulbs. If your not sure it probably only will run a HPS bulb. In that case buy some CFLs or fluoros for veg. :leaf:

yes, all correct. however, the bulb is custom designed for growing and the specs look great. that bulb is only good for flowering, under normal conditions. should be great for flowering.
lambofgod, were any of the bulbs MH??

no none of the bulbs are MH ....so you can put a conversion bulb in this? I got 2x13w cfl and 2 24" 70w equivalent flouros i got two seedlings under now....but one is staying short the other is majorly stretching, i know this isnt near enough to veg....but could i get away with it for say about 3 weeks then push into flowering? or should i atleast add a couple more cfls/flouros? thanks for al the awnsers ...im sure in the dark.

the strecty one @4days

the short one @ 4 days

BTW they are less than 1 inch away from the lights. in 50/50 of perilite and regular top soil, no ferts. water has ph of 5.8....but i dont know what the ph should be, I'll look around.

Add CFLs. I had 2 24" floros and mine streached like a beast. As soon as I put in 4 48" floros they started growing like mad.
