Default Update: Flat White Roof Paint
A few days ago, I was talking with someone in some thread about using flat white roof paint to paint the inside of a grow room, and I mentioned that I'd already picked up a can and would report back when I'd had a chance to use it.

It's elastomeric white roof paint from Home Depot, with a reflectivity of 90%. Today we finished putting on the last coat in the 5x4x7 flowering room, and I set up the 1000W light to see how it looked. I don't have anything to measure the reflectivity, but I can tell you that we can't even walk into that room without going blind. Even with sunglasses, it's almost too bright to work in there. Without sunglasses, you can't even go in there at all. The whole room just seems to be filled with this brilliant cloud of pure, bluish-white light - you can hardly identify a point source; it just radiates from every direction. It seems infitely brighter than the mylar-covered veg chamber, which has a 400W light but is less than half the square footage and only a quarter of the total volume.

I think sometime next week, I'll cover the walls with mylar just to do a comparison, but honestly right now it's very hard to believe that anything could reflect more evenly and more efficiently than this stuff. This paint looks like the real deal, and I'm really glad we found it. If anyone else is thinking of going with paint instead of mylar, you might want to consider giving this type of paint a try.

wait till you put plants in there and then get a pice of mylar and put it on one wall and then see what reflects the most light back to the plants.

ya, sounds good... its not really 'paint' per se... i've used this stuff before on the roof of a mobile home. more like a 'plastic coating' than a paint. but very good idea, and you could use it on the floor to make the floor water-proof.

it's about the same price as paint... and you'll probably only find it in 5 gal. buckets for around 80 plus dollars.
