I agree with PurfectStorm. I am on my very first grow. Cleaned my clothes out of the closet and dropped about $2,000 to get it going.

And that $2,000 wasn't wasted on the biggest brands or premade shit. I made my own reflectors and set up my own dwc from rubbermaids. The most money was for the Nutrients and Ventilation.

I probably could have spent $3,500 on the same stuff.

I still don't have a dehumidifier, or any co2. That will have to be my 2nd grow.

My nutrients were over $400. $900 ain't that much.

$2,400 on my first set up. I pieced it together slowly but came out with 2.5 LBS of Purps.

i spent about $1000 on my closet, thats with no ph metre or up and down either, i think my water is good cause i havent had a problem yet, but if ur water aint good, don't risk it.i also have to buy an a/c unit soon to keep my temp down. $1000 in my neck of the world got me:

    400w HPS+Reflector
full Fox Farm nute line up
    2 oscilating fans
    micro scope
    4' t-5 cfl for support
lined my walls with white shower curtain
    pots, soil, water hold
    termometre/hygrometre
    markers/name cards

    in my second grow now

I got some sort of discount on the digi 600 watt hps, they only charged me 139 for it. I bought a standing oscilating fan and some timers, and one more trip to HTG, to get flowering nutes, soil, pH meter, and insect control. So total I spent around $400 for a basic setup. In a year it has definately yielded some yummy smoke. I have a 3-phase garden installment I am planning.
    Phase 1:
Frame Up and Wall In and Run Circuits etc...
    Set up ventilation...
    Flower a round....
    Then Phase 2:
Enviromental Controls... probably Sentinel Cooling, Heating, CO2, Humidity
    CO2 Burner....
    Dehumidifier...
    Flower another round....
    Phase 3:
    Sulfer Burner
    More Lights... maybe
If more lights I will set up cooling ventilation with cool tubes
I want to try UVB lighting during flowering...
Anyhoo... I am starting this garden in May and hope to have it completed Late Summer. Total Estimated $2500 to $3000 with $1000 of that being top of the line Enviro-Controls.
But for now it's just me and my 600 watt HPS, fan, custom tailored feed schedule, and a bunch of very happy ladies!!!
    well i bought....

    4x4x6 grow tent
    400w hps with ballast
235cfm muffin fan / carbon filter
    light hood / easy rollers
dr chronic nl x skunk seeds
soil / pots / and perlite
    2 timers / extension cord

andl ike i said, i still need to buy the nutes, mylar and ph meter.

I spent around $800 for everything I have. 400w hps in flowering room t5's and flouros in veg. I still dont have a good PH meter or a PPM meter. I told myself that what I had was going to have to do until the setup has paid for itself. Ive got way more then my moneys worth so far so as soon as Im not so broke Ill have to dump some more into the meters and another 400-600w set up so I can have MH and HPS going at the same time.
So I would like to spend another $400-500

$800 is a very respectable start, but if you think thats a huge initial investment you have much to learn.

i just helped a buddy get set to the tune of about 2K.
