I use cool tubes with wing reflectors in my tents great for all sizes I prefer 600 watt lights mysel. I can hold the cool tube in my hand and use just simple inline fans from home depot one blowing air in 1 on other end sucking out. Tent stays around 72-75 i turn a fan or 2 off if I want warmer for co2. here s a looks at them in a tent and what they produce...

The temp with the simple duct fans running in the tent is about 76 outside the tens I run the lights at dark the temps are around 75-80 when I run the co2 I turn the fans off on the tubes and can get the tent up to about 80 ish.

I spent a lot of time researching the whole temp vs. lumen output/spread topic, and found that it depends quite a bit on the strain you have and the light it requires. If you want the most intense spread of light in a 4 X 4 area, the Super Sun 2 reflector can't be beat. If your choice is to spread the light out more, go with one of the other Hydrofarm Radiant or Daystar reflectors or one of the magnum style reflectors you guys are referring to. Cooltubes offer only one advantage, and that is temperature reduction. Those "batwing" style reflectors are HORRIBLE in comparison to the traditional reflectors when it comes to putting the lumens down, and in a good amount/spread.

thank you Mcgician for the input. magnum 8" with an 8" icebox would be ideal. but 8" iceboxes aren't in production yet... or aren't readily available. and strains vary from 9-11 week flower times. mostly sativa dominant. my only indica dom strain is blueberry.

I wouldn't have recommended a reflector with an 8" hole anyway. I've tried searching for the thread I got alot of the info I've collected, but the search function on here kinda sucks. I can't seem to find it anywhere. It was referred to me by bostongeorge54. Too much light escapes out the hole when you have to deal with an 8" duct. The Daystar or Radiant 6" reflectors do an outstanding job and so do the other Sun System 6" reflectors like the Cool Sun. I went with the Super Sun 2 reflector myself, because my lights are moving anyway. Regardless of what results you may be seeing from others, there's no way around the physics of light refraction. Like I said, the ONLY advantage to cooltubes is heat dissapation. The "batwing" style reflector growers and vertical reflectorless growers will tell you different, but get out a light meter and do the measurements yourself. The numbers don't lie. Best of luck in whatever you decide.

with cool tubes the batwing is fine as there is a reflector inside the tubes also its a half moon pebble finish then the wing lets you bend it to direct the outside ligthing or have the reflector lside to cast light at angles. In the cool tube you also have both ends with ducting so light doesnt go out from there. Heres a few quick pictures at an old setup I had from way back when i still use it for littl side grows. its a homemade 4x4 tent with a 3x3 table with 1 1000 watt hortilux hps light in a half barel open ended reflectors. just fans in the tent moving air one sucking fresh air in. I have sogged in this but find about 6-10 plants is plenty and have gone with the 7 plants right now so 7 sweet purples running fox farm nutes 4 floods aday this is week 1 finished flower temps with lights on around 70 with flap open and if I run co2 I close the flap always and have it about 80-82 in there up high at at plat tops fans blow constantly so temps at 78

super sun 2 if you have your lights close enough together (thats what i got).
if you have your lights spaced far apart (or just one light in a large space) than get a big reflector like the magnum xxxxL.
