Default Root Mass vs Yield
I want to know what the REAL world difference, nothing theoretical, is of using 5 gallon buckets vs 1 gallon buckets for growing. I have a limited grow space, with limited vertical space.

Obviously, I can fit more 1 gallon buckets into the space than 5 gallon buckets. The question really is, with the much higher root mass that would develop with the 5 gallon bucket, what are the effects going to be on the plant? Will it grow taller (something I dont want)? When it buds, will it REALLY put more mass on the buds? I will be using HEMPY method, so the roots arent going to have to search for nutrients all that much.

Because of the verticle space issue, I am probably going to try my hand at LST, hopefully it will not be an epic failure.

yo man, I can't answer your question, sorry.. but as for the LST, this is my very first grow and I find LST to be pretty awesome really! I just put 2 clones into 24 hour darkness(flower 1st day tom.) I now have like 7 or 8 tops instead of 2. There shouldnt' be any small "pop corn" buds. Also it's cool to see how they continue growing up to the light. I think you'll enjoy it. ( I have 8' for height, I just think LST allows for the best light penetration!) Good luck, stay safe, PEACE!

Height is related to the root mass. for every foot above ground expect at least half that in roots underground.

Though I just harvested a plant with 4 inches of roots and was about 22" tall above soil line.

I am thinking that the LST may negate the height problem for increasing the buckets from 1 gallon to 5. Very excited about trying it. Heights being equal though, would a 5 gallon bucket with a higher root mass produce bigger heavier buds than a 1 gallon bucket?

Thanks a lot for the responses.
