People make their grow boxes out of all sorts of stuff, but you should try to keep it air tight so that you can control the circulation, temperature, and humidity and then obviously light proof. Once you take those environmental factors into consideration you can add things like your thermometer, humidity meter, intake/outtake fans, reflective material, ect.

In case this sparks your ideas - I just finished the construction of my grow box with a wooden dowel frame including a base and top, for drainage tray support and light fixture hanging, and cardboard box exterior with ducktape around all of the edges. The inside surfaces are covered in reflective and insulating safety blankets only open to the intake fan at the bottom, exhaust fan at the top, and of course the door when it is opened. Note: this is a ghetto grow box, but it's working great.

Consider the parameters that you want to control and then cater to those features in your construction. Best of luck!

-also, the box is 2x2x5 feet wxdxh.

Home Depot carries wafer board (people think it's plywood, it's not), its going to look like scraps of wood pressed and glued together. There should be sheets of 4ft x 8ft for under $8 each, from these have your box cut to dimension. Once you have your pieces together gather 2 or 3 door hinges per box to make your door and some metal 90-degree brackets. Go buy wood screws and slap the thing together with a screwdriver.

If I was to do another veg box, instead of building it from scratch, I would consider looking at sales on misc cabinetry. Like kitchen cabinets. A lot of time Lowes and HD have extra misc ones that get put on major discount.

When making the box from scratch, my major challenge was making it light proof. I had even drawn plans and carefully considered how to build it, but of course would do it different if done again

Thanks for that link above, that seems to be a good design to start from!
