I was looking around on this site and saw a 1500 watt metal halide bulb for $25.00 and a 1500 watt ballast for 120 bux... Thats 145$ for a 1500 watt setup. With a custom cool tube and a 100cfm+ would keep it cool enough huh.. What do yall think..

Yea but don't get carried away. That throws 150k lumens of halide light and a 1kw hps throws 120k lumens of HPS.

The 1kw hps wins, for our needs anyway... Even at the lower lumen level.

That does look like a great find and a great price though. Good find, all you'd need is some wire nuts, a cord, and a socket. Aside from a cooltube but it would be worth it for sure either way. One 1500 halide and two 1kw hps's in a vertical barrel sog. (or whatever it's called)

Well don't think of it as $120 or $150 though is all. You would probably have to have every single part needed to cooltube and vent that heat just to control the room temperature alone if nothing else. (check if it fits a bake a round) I'm sure it could be done without but that might be just as hard and or expensive anyway.
And a dedicated power line. (which you could diy if you read how, or just clear everything off the existing line (making it dedicated) and run your other stuff off an extension cord or something.)

But even with all that I agree, still tempting, nobody would blame you one bit...

Just don't leave yourself stuck with a light you can't run because you didn't leave money for the cooling.

I'd want to add a light mover also, eventually, then it would probably be no real stretch to cover around 5x10 or 4x12 or something along those lines with it and really cash in double on the extra power it has.

Yea but check out that 1 mh bulb.. 161000 lumens!!! thats alot bro, and think about it, 1500 watts for 150 bux... Im def considering this buy.. a 3x3 for a 600 watter a 4x4 with a 1000 watter and a 1500 watter should be good for a 5x5. Now i no people will hate and yada yada, but damb, i cant get over 1500 watts for 150 bux...

Yea for sure, i hear you though. But i see people on here buying ballast, reflector, and 1k watter at local hydro shops for 300-400$... thats not cool tubed either. See, i look for bargains. For instance, 150 into the ballast and bulb, 6 inch inline fan from fleabay, 30$ and bake around for 20$.. 200$ and you have a cool tubed 1500 watter. Im just saying it can be done

The 1,500w MH lamps have a very short life expectancy. I remember hearing about 6 months being the norm. I'd rather use a 1k HPS.

You have your light coverage schedule all fucked up bro:

400 = 4' x 4'

600 = 5' x 5'

1K = 6' x 6'

Sensi seeds recommends a 600 for 2 meters squared. Basically they say a 600 can cover an area 6.5' x 6.5', so who really knows what a 1K is limited to. I often use a 600 to cover a 5' x 5' area so don't count your HID short.

I use those type lights in my work,I hang them from the tower crane to light the job site below for any 2nd shift workers,if you buy that light you'd better bring some steaks to cook on them because they get hot as fuk.

Its not a great light for a standard grow op,you'd be better off getting 2 600 watt hps lights anyday over that monster.

I work costruction so i no the lights are big and hot, but once agian, like i said, its only 30$ for the bulb and the ballast is cheap as well. Im just saying if you had a 6x6 or a 7x7 i would drop this bitch vertically and see what it could do. But i didnt expect postive response, i expected negative answers. And a 1000 watter aint enough for a 6x6. itll do, but more would more sufficient

Hmmm,a 1,000 watter isnt large enough to cover a 6x6,im getting areas that large you just need to to rotate plants daily.

You would be better off with more light or a smaller space. Sure you can grow that way, but you will yield less than fewer plants in the proper size space.
