I was looking into the same thing. I think I'm going to call an electrician most likely - dont want to burn the place down :)

Oh but if you feel competent and find a good solution let me know for sure bro. Big bill with an electrician :wall:

Adding circuits is easier than you think, maybe only intimidating once. I used this when wiring up and was very easy to do, and trust me im just out right retarded:
Installing A New Circuit Breaker In An Electrical Panel

What do you do if you have a attic space and your heat exchanger for your house ac/heat is in the attic, and it breaks down? and the operation is to large to break down so you can bring in a repair guy? Just wondering if anyone else has thought of this sort of thing.

hope u live in a rancher! cause fishing a wire to 3 or 4 floors can be a bitch. look for ur stink pipe(sewer ventilation pipe) usually the best route from the basement to the attic:)

ohh yeah , and i forgot to tell ya, yer gonna need two dedicated 15a lines to there(14-2 romex), and also two breakers and all devices(outlets and such).could be 50-200 dollars on material alone depending on how far yer nearest panel is. good luck pal

hhmm... I'll keep this one in my back pocket for now! Great info... I'm no electrician... I install custom mobile audio systems and shit... but house current will flatten me skr8 on my ass! Happened before, and prolly will happen again!

^That just seems like a really bad idea^, do you know how much bacteria and other bad things live in that pipe? I sure as hell wouldn't want that crap floating back into my grow room, or the rest of my house. Just find a store that carries the product ONA "odor neutralizing agent" and get the time release spray it's like $50.00 but they use it in waste treatment facilities to kill the odor so you know its good stuff.

not in the pipe dummy. holy shit.i'm talking about fishing the wire next to the pipe. sometimes the best way to get a wire from the basement to the attic without making nothces and holes in walls below.damn, i never heard anything so dumb, how high are u?

Yeah you had me scared for a second there too, and i was sober. Anyhow when i did this i did 3x's 20 amp circuits plus 1 15 amp (they were out of 20 amp fuses on that one) And it probably costed around 150-200 dollars for all the copper wire, i had short runs except for the attic fan which was probably 120-150 feet run. Fishing was easy enough, it was all the crawling in portions of the attic with no floor that was the PIA.

and wire make sure the wire can handle the power or could be 4th of july all over (and un like a smile from fire works-tears when your wire melts and more than likely catch fire, and burn your home with all your belongings, and posably killing you or the people living with you or near you)

nothing a quick question to some one at home depot if you dont know what to buy for wiring a 110 20 amp circuit. Just dont use an extension cord, and remember if you dont trust them, buy higher rated cable for the hell of it. I would say a good portion of the grow houses that burn are probably either from lighting issues, or people being just outright stupid and sloppy because they dont care about a rental. But if you dont care about your neighbors, then at least care that your crop could go up in smoke. So do what you feel comfortable with, im just saying its not near as intimidating as it may sound.

How nervous were you the first time you sprouted a seed? Now that turned out ok right?.. right?

if you need more than 1 circuit like one pwerson needed the 3 15s and a 20 it may have been easier to run 8/3 with ground and put in a 50 amp sub panel
then you can run multiple circuits in the attic and only have to worry about fishing 1 wire to the panel.
just a suggestion from a sparky. if i had a grow in my attic you can bet i would have a sub panel up there too

lol the bacterias are going to eat thru the wire you dumby.
now thats just not nice no ones trolling here.

and your right subpanel would have been better but not within my realm of expertise so i played it safe by staying within my limited knowledge. but tptally agree.

as far as what circuits you need for 6 400 watt lights all 6 combined will draw 20 amps and sinceyou cant really draw 20 amps from a 20 amp cirsuit continously and have it be safe you will need 2 20 amp circuits i would load 3 lights per circuit. that puts 10 amps of lighting on each and leaves you another 8 amps each safely which you can evenly load pumps and fans to finish them off.
you can run 12/3 with ground which gives you 2 hots a neutral and a ground and is good for 20amps x 2 120 volt circuits.
easier to fish the 1 romex with both hots than to pull 12/2 twice.
from the panel fish 1 12/3 with ground to the attic in your main panel land the black on "A" phase and the red on "B" phase. on 20 amp breakers. land the white on the neutral bus bar and the ground on the ground bar. in most main panels the ground bar and neutral bus bar are the same place. but in some older panels or in new sub panels the grounds and neutrals are isolated if yours is that way then keep it that way.
at the other end in the attic land your 12/3 with ground in a 2 gang box.
pig tail the ground and neutral wires so that they have 2 wires 1 for each outlet.
land 1 white neutral to one silver screw (on most standard duplex recpt. (standard outlet with 2 plugs on it) and the other neutral to the other. do the same for the grounds. then land the black wire to the copper screw or hot lead of 1 recpt. and the red to the other recpt.
you now have 2 20 amp circuits to load up as you see fit
