So I finished the preliminary work in my new cab, a ClosetMaid Cabinet from Homedepot. It's the brand that replaced the old MillsPride c13 cabs. Mine is 30" wide, and was originally 19" deep, but I increased the depth to 23", and 71" tall. It is lined with Fat mat and painted flat white. It uses Tot locks for security, and is light proof. Next step is installing the ventilation that will hook up with the 400 watt DIY cool tube, and attach with the DIY carbon filter: International Cannagraphic Magazine Forums - DIY pro style carbon filter made from those specs. Intake is passive, through two of these: DV99 Adorama Darkroom Light Tight Louvers, 8"X8", Set Of Two (2) out of the back, one foot above the bottom.

The question I have, is how exactly would you guys recommend I orient the fan/scrubber/ducting that I have? Do most of you have the exhaust fan push out the back of the cab, the top, or the side? Do alot of you guys attach the fan to the sides, or to the top? Just generally trying to get a feel for what is the best way to attach these devices. I don't want to drill a hole in the top of the cab, to find out that it really would have been better to vent out the side, or vice versa. Any suggestions?

Heat rises so push ait out at the top and have the intake at the bottom

You cooling the light and venting all in a single shot? Thats kinda frowned on (not sure why, but can see a few minor reasons.)
What fan did you go with? (just curious. I just got a S&P TD-150)

Passive intake and active exhaust or active intake?

Hey weedman, yeah, I know that much. My question was about if people actually attach the fan physically to the top of the cab, or to the sides at the top. And if people physically drill a hole in the top of the cab, or in the top of the wall of the cab, or the top of the back of the cab for exhaust. Perhaps my question was a little off, but do you understand what I'm asking now?

This thread is really a follow up of my previous attempts to plan it out: Help designing a new cab as you probably remember. After reading International Cannagraphic Magazine Forums - The Mill's Pride Club and International Cannagraphic Magazine Forums - C13 Club I decided to KISS it, and just make one flowering cab, and turn my smaller flowering chamber into a veg box. Anyway, I went with a TD-125. Passive intake, active exhaust, of course.

My current plan was to run it all off of one TD-125 fan now, and since it is winter I wouldn't have heat problems. If it gets too hot, I'll get a second 125 fan, and hook it up to only the carbon filter, and run the cool tube on the other one.

Awesome? I didn't say much. So you have the '125 venting the room by pulling through the lamp and dumping into the scrubber?
Sounds like a tall order.

But I'd put the 125 blowing into the lamp then off to the scrubber. More air molecules in the lamp, the more heat that can be absorbed.

I'm running the '150 on slow speed just on my hood. I can touch the glass and leave it there all day. The top of the hood is room temp, 78F. Its not a quiet as I thought, but at slow speed with the doors closed, its not bad.

Its a nice fan, ain't it? I like the cartridge style of it. Easy to change flow direction.

Yup winter growing has its advantages! Less heat, low humidity (cheaper to add humidity then take it out. Same for heat) I'll be posting my current grow in a little while (once lose to finish) I figure 2 winter grows will hold me for a year. (until next winter)

The way I was planning it was scrubber ---> cool tube ---> fan ---> out. I was going to do it the way you suggested, but wouldn't the air flow be restricted the same either way? the air can only move as fast as the most restrictive item in there.

I really like their fans though. I think they are much quieter than any of the others that I have had. Including the vortex and a few squirrel cage fans. It helps if you use fatmat and insulated ducting. If I am still not satisfied, I might make my own duct muffler, but I probably won't. I love their design, easy to clean and all.

Mind if I ask how you physically attached your fan in the cab? Pics would be great (if you don't mind ). Did you attach it to the ceiling, or a wall? Exhaust out the ceiling, or the back?

Some thoughts on the flow. Light first, then you are tossing hotter air across the fan and motor. (probably not a major issue, but its rather plastic) If there is a restriction, there will be less air mols during the dwell time in the cooltube. (I'd rather have more air then less, even more so if the flow is being restricted by the scrubber)
Some fans blow better then they suck (I'm kinda stumped on which is which, and the S&P's are kinda a hybrid)

No pics for a while. I"m on da road. But I bolted to the wall. At an angle towards the hood. I used the 'better' ducting, the semi ridged flex tubing. That cheap stuff, just looked to cheezy to me. I blow through the hood and then up out the top of the closet. (I have a 'plant shelf' above the closet, so I get the benny of putting the heat back into the room and take a bit of the load off the furnace. Its a big room about 12x17 and vaulted ceiling.

Once this grow(s) is done, I'm gonna make it modular. I'll be able to set it up/take down the closet in about an hour.
(Killer idea/hopes is venting: Intake and exhaust from inside/outside all selectable and hopefully automated)

I get what you are saying, you blow from fan to hood then out the top. I thought the S&P was better at sucking than blowing, I could be wrong though, I just assumed.

For stealth reasons, I would really prefer to keep the carbon filter inside the cab. Since it isnt inline, it would have to be at the begining of the 'fan line', if you get what I mean.

Just curious how the TD-125 worked out for your cab. Did it keep the temps under control?

I'm using the same cab (un-modified), and just picked up a TD-125 which I'll be using with the Can 33.
