Need help with Homebox L set up

Hello all,

I am in the planning stages of my grow set up. I have a small space available and I plan on getting a Homebox L which will fit my spot just about perfectly.

I would like some suggestions for the optimal use of this space. I will be growing in soil with Fox Farms products, beyond that I really could use some help with the set up. Help me spend some $$.

For components I would really like to buy the best once and be done with it.
What would the optimum output electronic ballast MH/HPS be 400w/600w? Cooling fan/Reflector/filter, my head is spinning right now.
I have used the "search" function for Homebox set ups and have been reading my ass off on this board and a few others.

So far the only thing I am sure of is the Homebox L for the convenience, portability and controllability of the conditions. Now I would really like to hear how some of you experienced indoor growers would set up the perfect little grow room in this 39.5 x 39.5 x 79" space.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

GROW YOUR PLANTS INDOORS, IN THIS SELF-CONTAINED GROW-HOUSE.
ABOUT THE GROW TENT:
THIS UNIT ALLOWS YOU TO COMPLETELY CONTROL YOUR INDOOR GROWING ENVIRONMENT FOR INCREASED YIELDS !!
This is a multi-purpose indoor growing chamber. The exterior "skin" is made of super heavy-duty black ballistic nylon lined on the inside with highly reflective weather proof ultra-white pvc plastic. The "skin" also features commercial grade oversized sewn in zippers for easy installation and easy access to your garden.

A strong, top quality metal frame work holds this system together neatly and snuggly and is very easy to assemble. Sturdy wire roof supports will hold your grow light reflector, exhaust fan, circulation fan and a carbon filter (if desired).

Built in vents allow for easy control of your temperature and humidity levels inside the grow tent. This tent features FOUR 4 INCH and TWO 5 INCH vent ports located on the top, the sides and back of the grow tent. TWO 4" Metal Vent Flanges come with each tent which are perfect for inline ventilation fans, centrifugal blowers and carbon filters and will accomodate any 4" or 5" fan or ducting.

Our unit also features three built in vent flaps on three of four sides near the bottom of the grow tent to ensure proper air flow and drafting.

A thermal sealed water-proof double floor affixes into the bottom of the grow tent. The water-proof floor stands about 6" high and attaches to the sides of the tent using prestitched velcro fasteners and allows for placement of the grow tent on any surface without the fear of damage from water overflow.

Convenient, large cord access holes with light proof velcro covers near the top and bottom of the grow tent allow cords etc. to be ran into the interior of the grow chamber. Velcro cord straps inside the grow tent near the cord access holes and in the center of the roof are provided to hold cords neatly in place.

BOTH A METAL HALIDE & HIGH PRESSURE SODIUM Grow Light system in one!
Why do you need both HPS & MH bulbs to grow the best plants possible?
Growers worldwide consider the best way to grow flowering plants is by vegetatively growing them under the bright white light of the METAL HALIDE then switching over the the HIGH PRESSURE SODIUM’s super bright orangish/red spectrum for the flowering stage of plant growth. The Metal Halide bulb provides lush, compact plant growth. The HPS bulb’s spectrum mimicks that of the "harvest sun" and promotes explosive, prolific flowering of plants.
Using Metal Halide and then switching to High Pressure Sodium is THE way to GROW the BEST PLANTS POSSIBLE.
This is simply the BEST High Intensity Discharge (H.I.D.) Grow Light System on the market today. Top Qualtiy Construction and Components combined with Outstanding Value make this the perfect choice for your grow light needs.

BALLAST & HOUSING

Dimensions: 9" long x 4" wide x 5.5" tall
The HTG SUPPLY ballast housing is the ONLY system with this highly efficient and innovative design. It keeps critical components seperated from the heat of the ballast core. Head and shoulders above any other design on the market today.

Comes equipped with a top-of-the-line ballast manufactured specifically for horticultural production. These ballasts are made to our specifications for HIGH OUTPUT and LONG LIFE. EVERY other seller is using a ballast made for "commercial" lighting. These commercial lighting ballasts are a lower output type designed to save energy resulting in lower light output!
Convenient Retractable Handle allows for easy lifting and storage.
Key-Holes in the Retractable Handle allow you to mount your ballast from the wall or ceiling if desired - no need to use valuable floor space!
Oversized Rubber Feet provide electrical safety and quiet performance. Other systems don’t even have any type of rubber feet let alone nice large ones like ours does! Without rubber feet you can expect a noisy, buzzing, humming, ballast unit!
Our 10’ power cords to the outlet and reflector are heavy gauge industrial grade cords. There is A LOT of voltage running from the ballast to the reflector and the proper gauge cord is critical to proper performance and product longevity. Other sellers actually use low grade extension type cords which are unsafe and dangerous. Without a heavy gauge cord, you can expect overheating of the cord, lower performance and shorter ballast and lamp life.
Our Power Cord plugs right into a standard grounded household outlet / receptacle!
Each unit comes equipped with a Universal Socket Set allowing for your choice of several top quality reflectors. This makes the HTG SUPPLY system one of the most versatile systems on the market today.
4 SIDED HORIZONTAL SUPER-REFLECTOR
Dimensions: 15.5" long x 12.5" wide x 6" deep
BLOWS AWAY THE COMPETITION!
This top of the line HORIZONTAL REFLECTOR is made from the HIGHEST QUALITY MATERIALS available! Specifically designed for growing plants, this reflector incorporates a steel socket/reflector bracket, 5kv Pulse Rated Mogul Based socket and highly reflective polished aluminum reflector. The highly polished aluminum reflector has a mirror-like finish rated at 95% reflectivity for MAXIMUM LIGHT OUTPUT. This super reflective surface provides more raw light output than dimpled reflectors and is far superior in reflective qualities than cheap white painted reflectors which discolor over time. Polished Aluminum will NOT RUST, CHIP or CORRODE like inferior chrome reflectors do under the intense heat of a high intensity discharge (H.I.D.) bulb like the High Pressure Sodium (HPS) bulb that comes with this system. This reflector is built to last a lifetime and can easily be cleaned with common household window cleaner. Horizontal lamp configuration design allows for the greatest light coverage over the top of your garden area while providing the highest light intensity levels possible. It is widely recognized that the BEST design for horticultural reflectors is the HORIZONTAL REFLECTOR design incorporated with this reflector. Comes with two heavy duty steel hangers to hang your reflector from and a 10’ cord from the reflector to the ballast housing.
Our 4 sided design allows for up to 50% more light delivered to your garden area over standard open ended "batwing" style reflectors.
Not only does our reflector have all 4 sides, it also incorporates a "V" bend above the lamp. This "V" bend does not allow light to bounce off your reflector and go directly back into the bulb as other sellers flat topped reflectors do. When light is directed back into the bulb’s arc-tube, it is lost! Light reflected back into the bulb also creates heat to build up inside the bulb shortening the life of the bulb significantly.
Versatile: It’s like two reflectors in one! You can choose to use the END PANELS or as an open-ended Fully Adjustable "Batwing" style reflector. Use the End Panels to create a 4 sided reflector to maximize light efficiency and get the highest output possible. Or use it as a Fully Adjustable Reflector to customize the light coverage you need for your garden! Simply bend the refector outwards for a wider light spread or bend inwards for a more intense, direct beam of light coverage. YOUR CHOICE!!
This is not a shoebox! The side panels and end panels are angled to provide the maximum light output to your gardens canopy without wasting a single lumen.
We sweat the small stuff. We give a lot of thought to the design and manufacture of this grow light system. We strive to make this the best grow light system at the best value on the market today. You’ll notice we’ve thought of every detail, making the system very easy and safe to use. We even fold the edges over on our reflector ends. This not only provides a nice smooth edge that will not cut you should you bump your head it, but it also provides superior strength to prevent bending or warping. We sell literally THOUSANDS of Grow Light systems each year!! WHY? Quality/Value/Performance !!

HTGSupply HIGH OUTPUT 400w HPS BULB
This is not your ordinary 400 watt High Pressure Sodium bulb. This is a specialty-made custom-branded horticultural bulb and is head and shoulders above all other 400w HPS bulbs on the market today.

HIGHER LUMEN OUTPUT for HIGHER YIELDS
20,000 hour expected life span (one year is 8,760 hours)
Balanced light spectrum at 4100 Kelvin, imitating natural sunlight

Universal Postion - will operate in any position including Horizontal as this reflector holds it
Promotes STRONG, LUSH, COMPACT vegetative growth in all green plants.
ONE YEAR WARRANTY bulb
Remember - HIGHER LUMEN OUTPUT equates into MORE PLANT GROWTH and HIGHER TOTAL YIELDS.
DUAL OUTLET TIMER
This heavy duty timer a reliable, top quality timer made specifically for grow lights.
Heavy Duty - Fully Grounded and U.L. Listed for SAFETY
24 hour programmable down to 15 minute incriments
DUAL OUTLETS to control up two appliances. Can control both your light and fan with the same timer!
2,000 watt capacity

4" INLINE FAN
The six inch inline fan provides the ventilation needed to keep the grow tent at the correct temperature and humidity level. Without proper ventilation temperature and humidity will raise too hight for proper plant growth. The fan is rated at 80 cfm, has a 5’ grounded power cord and is whisper quiet. It easily fits the 4" vent flange on the top of the grow tent. This fan should only allow your tent to be a 1 or 2 degrees warmer than room temperature - which is the perfect temperature for optimum plant growth.

PAIR of HI/LOW REFLECTOR HANGERS

The Hi-Low hangers provided are for hanging your reflector from the top of your grow tent. They hold your reflector in place and allow for easy raising and lowering of your reflector. This is a very nice feature that will make growing plants in this system even easier!

THERMOMETER / HYGROMETER
Every gardener needs to know what the temperature and humidity of their garden is for optimum plant growth. The thermometer included with this system has a large LCD readout screen and remote sensor. It records the high and low temperature and humidity inside of the grow tent. The remote sensor allows you to measure the temperature in other areas in your grow tent including the growing medium.

TEN 3 GALLON GROW BAGS

These heavy duty plastic Grow Bags feature a white exterior and black interior. The white exterior reflects light out into the garden while the black interior ensures the bags are opaque and do not allow light to enter the bag which would feed algae growth. Drainage holes in the bottom of the bags allow water to exit and not build up and cause root rot. The 3 gallon grow bag is our most popular size grow bag and ten of these bags fit nice and snugly in the bottom of this grow tent. They are large enough to grow some impressive medium to large sized plants. They are re-useable if so desired.

5 CUBIC FEET of COCO-COIR

Coco-Coir is the latest and greatest hydroponic medium available! Two 2.5 cu/ft of compressed Coco-Coir (5 cu/ft total) blocks come as the growing medium (the "dirt") for this system. Coco-Coir is 100% natural and is a renewable resource. It is made from the husks of the coconut and it provides excellent water retention and air penetration. It does not break down as quickly as other natural mediums like sphagnum moss and is fast becoming one of the most popular growing mediums in the hydroponic industry. This growing medium is better than dirt as your plants will grow faster and bigger! The Coco-Coir we provide is free of salts and OMRI Certified Organic. No soaking or leaching is necessary. Just break up the block and soak it in water and it is ready to use! Coco-Coir provides the results professional growers demand but is easy enough for the beginner grower to use! We are starting you out with the BEST and EASIEST way to get Hydroponic results without having to rely on more expensive and complicated hydroponic systems. You can upgrade your system at a later date to a more advanced hydroponic system.

Thanks, I actually looked into that one a few weeks ago and decided the Homebox L would fill the space available better. I have about 41x41 available between 2x4s in the attic and want to use all of it.

Also the HB is a better quality tent, without PVC inside the grow chamber. The reviews on that tent and the HB have steered me the way of the HB L.

Have you used that set up? I would be very interested to hear how well it worked out, it is a sweet deal for everything needed to get going.

Thanks again.

Camaro630hp,
I am itching to see the pic, but I can't get it to open. Are you using that set up? and man NICE avatar ! She is very distracting, in a good way.

Raiderman,
I would love to just use a closet, but my space is in an attic, and I need to enclose the space , it is a sea of insulation up there except for my 41x41" island of plywood. I figured a good quality tent would be the way to go as far as controlling the environment. It also needs to be moveable otherwise I would have put my shop to use and built a big cabinet.

The manufacturers web page says a 400w HPS is recommended, but if I could get better results safely with a cooled 600w MH/HPS set up I would rather do that since I will probably be able to get two or three cycles through before spring and hot temps force me to shut it down for the year. I am contemplating stealing fresh air from the room below, which may extend my useable time some, cooled air constantly flowing in may do the trick.

Thanks for the help guys.

i use a 39 x 39 x 79 with a 1000 watt hps for budding its a bit of overkill i would suggest the 600 watt and either get a switchable ballast or a MH conversion bulb so you can veg with the same hood and ballast.
heat will be your enemy in the tent especially in the attic so get a cool tube hood and try to get your intake air from the livable part of the house if at all possible to keep heat down in your tent.
i grow in soil as well and use 3 gallon grow bags . they are tall and skinny with about a 7" x 7" footprint allowing me to cram 25 plants in it. i trim the lower 1/3 of the plant naked to make "SoG lollipops"
use a few clip on fans to circulate air to keep moisture under control ... humidity can get bad with 25 plants crammed in there
also get yourself a good exhaust setup with a carbon filter and as well with this one try to get the coolest air as possible to feed this... passive intake i dont think works well in an attic situation so you will want to run a duct to somewhere cool maybe one of your gable vents or something so you are getting cool air from outside and force it in with a good fan.
sorry to be harping on the temp but attics get way too hot.
any questions feel free to ask.
i grow sucessfully in a tent the same size as yours and my biggest battle is heat
best of luck to you .. oh yeah .. your are right to go with the homebox ... my growbright tent always stinks of PVC inside and the homebox's lining is much more reflective than my htg tent

Phinxter,

Thank you sir, great info.
So the cool tube will be the most effective reflector/cooling hood set up for a 600 watt light? I am definitely planning on using an electronic ballast so the one set up will take me through veg with a MH and HPS for budding. Any reccomendations as to the brand of light/bulbs for best results. Also what size fan (CFM) would be good enough for cooling the light? My plan is to use a dedicated line for cooling the light and it will run right to the ridge vent.

The bags are a great idea as well, I think I will go that route also, they seem like a very convenient solution, best use of the small footprint of the tent.

I was unsure on the cooling set up, I was thinking the fan for cooling would draw the air out of the tent, but most cool tube set ups I have seen here are a dedicated line to only cool the light. Then the ventalation for the tent will be a seperate, less powerful inline fan to my carbon filter. I think that will do the trick since I will be stealing air from the house, I will not be blasting all the ac out of here, my other half would come unglued!

Do you have any pics of you're tent in action? That must be quite a view with 25 babies in there. What strans are you using for that sog?

Thanks again, this is really helping me out with my build.

i will try to get some pics this week for you . the 2 strains i am currently growing are great white shark and the other is a strain i got from a buddy and all i know about it is that it goes purple during flowering like urkle / lavender
as for cooling the hood ... yeah go with 2 separate runs 1 for the hood and 1 for the tent itself.
i use a 250 cfm 6 inch inline fan and it cools my hood quite well.
as for brand of bulbs i use cheap growbright or agromax without any problems but if you want quality go with sunmaster or "eye hortilux"
not all digital ballasts handle both MH and HPS so make sure you get one thats switchable or some actually automatically switch for you depending on the lamp you install.
and yes the cool tube will be your best investment to keeping heat down and a 600 watt will be more than enough . you should avheive great results from it.
and yeah the bags are excellent
without going to a hydro table they allow the best usage of floor space

I still can not see the pic. What are you growing in there?

How about yeild, what is you're tent producing per run?

I am about to pull the trigger on my tent today, and the rest will be inbound in a week or two.

good stuff!!!

That sounds sweet! I wish I had room for the XL, but I will be stuffing the L into my little spot.

That sounds like a great price on the Homebox, where are you getting that one from? You can PM that if you like.(I am not sure of board policy on posting that, I'm real new)

That should be a great set up, lotso room for them to fill. I can not wait to get mine going, I have two business trips coming up so I will not be able to get moving for a few weeks, but I will have everything ready to go when I get back.

Very cool, thanks again for all the ideas and info, the more the better. Like I said I really want to get this set up right from the beginning, this is saving me many newby mistakes.
