Stealth AK47 Clone Grow

So I spur of the moment picked up two AK47 clones from a well known medical club in the Bay Area, CA the on last monday (6/02). They're two AK47 clones rooted in rockwool. I'll go down the list of the setup:

Two 8" pots 3/4 Black Gold Potting Mix 1/4 Botanicare Aeration Soilless Formula (basically coco coir, perlite)

Cutting Edge Solutions nutrients (semi local company, looks like it's basically developed for weed with sayings like the formulas originated in the Humboldt Foothills) Reccomended by a local hydro shop.

Got their Micro, Grow, Bloom, Plant Amp, and Uncle John's Blend

Two 2700K Soft Cfl's One 4100K CFL, Also have a 400W Hortilux HPS that can only be used 6 hours +/- of the light schedule a day because where it is and who is around it (I own it it's in my living area, just being used for tomatoes n' peppers)

The "stealth" grow part consists of two boxes on top of eachother, the bottom having a portion of the top cut out and the top box having all the bottom cut off. I'll post pictures when I don't feel so lazy (back hurts).

Day 5:

Lights Schedule: 24/0

Nutrients: Being fed for the first time with it's second watering with the ratio specified by the mixing chart for this stage.
PPM: ~1150 PH: ~5.1

I know the PPM might be a little high, and the PH a little low. I'll update with more info tomorrow.

Day 7

The more vigorous plant was FIMed on the night of day 5 and both were pinned down to start some LST. I'm waiting for the second one to catch up with some more nodes before I prune it. Both deffinately showed signs of growing towards the light by the morning and as of now are still trying to move up. Soil is still moist from previous watering/feeding. Probably going to water again tomorrow if the soil is dry enough and feed again with the watering after that. So far I'm very happy with the results from the nutrients, the plants took them like champs and showed no signs of burn. Did however look noticeably better after the feeding.

Day 8

Plants are really doing well. I can see a root hitting a drainage hole so I know it's taken to the soil. Never did show any stress, just took a couple days to hit up. The FIMing and LSTing on the better of the two has made 5 growths become about equal in height and are growing more every day. I foliar fed both them with Floralicious Plus to from GH. Will probably water tomorrow, soil wasn't quite dry enough to do it today. I'm really surprised at the water retention of this mix, I have a habanero plant in straight FF Ocean Forest soil and that needs watering almost every other day and has also become more compact then I would like. I realized today that I hadn't thought about how soon I'm going on vacation and will be going back to my old state for a week in july. I might postpone the trip till end of summer though to make sure this harvest gets out fine, the trip wasn't set in stone anyways. I also upgraded the grow compartment today. Previously it was two boxes on top one another, now there's a lined rubber maid for the bottom that provides more room and the same vented top box. Also added the small ghetto co2 today. Sugar, water, and yeast, should last a week or so before it eats up all the sugar.

This sounds like a good setup. I also do peppers and tomatoes. I sure would love to see some pictures. I have done a couple scrog grows and also LST my mothers to get more bushy and less height. It works well for me.

Ask and ye shall recieve. I finally got unlazy and took some pictures after getting a little encouragement. The better clone that I got looks much better than the other one (the one with the beatup fan leaf). The beatup one is a little slower since it didn't have nearly as much growth when i got it so it's taking it's sweet time to grow some new stuff, but it's chugging along. I'm really satisfied with the better one though, looks super good, growth looks great, slightly light burned on the tips of some older fan leaves, but it's fine now. I'm going to have to start the second big bend of the stalks to start following the edge of the pots soon, probably here in a day or two. Comment pls:mrgreen: Btw this is my first personal grow, but I've been around a few.

i don't know too much about different ways to grow, i'm still a noob. whats the idea behind pinning the plant down like that?

It has quite a few advantages. LST (Low Stress Training) allows you to make shorter plants (my main reason) while getting max light coverage over the plant. So say in your typical vetical growing plant you have the light on the top, for the most part only the top cola (the main bud on the tip) is getting a lot of light and growing big while the lower buds closer to the bottom of the plant don't get much light and therefore stay little buds. With this, theoritically all the plant is getting equal light (depending on how you do it) and therefore making more equal size buds all over the plant.

Update: Day... 11?

Due to time constrictions (going on vacation for a week in 2 months) I decided to flower my babies immediately to avoid the hassle of dealing with them while I'm gone. I wasn't gonna veg them much longer anyways (was just gonna veg for 2 weeks total). I put them into a 48 dark period starting last night and will be starting 12/12 tomorrow night. Since the light period is pretty short (12 hours) I'll be able to flower them mostly under my 400W HPS light so they should yield decent. I'm hoping 1 1/2 - 2 ounces total dry weight, not sure though. That's enough to last me like 2 months if so anyways. I medicate every night, but try to stay on the conservative side. Will be feeding with the transition formula next time I water which is more nitrogen and then the feedings after that are just going to be the reccomended bloom. Can't wait, I was way happy at work today to know even though it'll be 2 months till I harvest, at least it'll be my own and more than enough. Will post more pics in a few days when they start showing hairs.

Day 12

Fed with the Cutting Edge Solutions nutes

PPM: 1,700

PH:~5

Plants just got out of their 48 hour dark cycle. Noticeable development since before the dark cycle and after. They're getting their first 12 hour cycle under the HPS right now and eating their food. The feeding was the "transition" mix which has a little less bloom and a little grow, then the next feedings after this are all the bloom formula.

Day 14

Wokeup this morning and decided to go look at more clones. I was hoping to get Deep Chunk x Strawberry Cough, but they didn't have it. I ended up getting a Hindu Kush x Skunk #1, which I've smoked before and it's one of my favorite herbs I've had the pleasure of smoking/vaping. It's a quite sturdy clone, very healthy minus a little drooping. It was planted in a 6" pot with Botanicare Aeration Formula (Soilless hydro medium that's basically coco & perlite). I know I'll have to water it a lot, but that's not a problem since the light cycle is when I'm awake at home for the most part and can water it a couple times a day with nutrients. It's going to go into flower in a day or two once it gets over the stress and should finish close to my AK47's. I'm not expecting a huge yield at all, just wanted another plant to mess around with and get a little smoke from:)

Edit: Oh yea, I fed the clone when I watered it. Used the cutting edge solutions in their clone formula, but instead of Nitrogen rich I changed the ration of bloom to grow to equal since the plant will be flowered very soon. Also had rooting hormone in it. PPM: 950. The plant smells really skunky if I get my nose anywhere close to it:D
