After reading and getting advice from a friend I decided to grow in an extra computer case I have. I lined the entire inside with foil, and used a 2700 lumen bulb. I have magnets to keep the side closed and pretty much sealed. I was able to germinate 6 seeds so... I am working with 6 seeds (I expect to only be working with 2 or 3 after vegetation).
If I did have the chance to make a new setup I would have made it out of a taller case so I could fit a PSU in it to power the fan and a temp gauge. Also take note this case is just for vegetation. I am currently working on a nice setup that I will post pics of when i'm done. Let me know what you guys think. Day 1 ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Day 4 ![]() Don't know if you can tell (due to my crappy as camera) but 3 of em have sprouted to about an inch. Day 5 ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() You may notice a hole or two in the soil. I tried to lift the soil up a bit to see what was happening with the other seed since they were not growing. One seed was still there (wasn't germinated enough). Another grew a bit but I think I put the seed a bit too deep. For the last one that wasn't growing I was able to remove a little bit of soil off the top to expose the sprout (There was a large piece of soil debris that was to big for the sprout to push out of the way). After some water and a few hours it looks healthy enought to continue growing. One thing I did notice is that the stalk on the front left plant is a bit red? I have no idea if that is good or bad but i'm sure i'll find out eventually. I am now up to 4 plants. Last edited by CellZero; 03-19-2007 at 03:52 PM.. Reason: Update |

Yo, CellZero...love your conversion of a PC man. Good stuff mate!
I'm new here too. Just started my first grow yesterday, my seeds are sitting in wet tissue as I type. So you're a few days ahead of me there. I'm no expert at all, but I wondered how easy it would be to repot those babies when needed, with them all in the same long tub? But I'm sure you'll manage. Good luck dude, I'm rooting for ya!

Day 6
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() The buds are looking great. I've decided to change my vegetation room to something a little better. It should reflect light better and it will give all the plants equal light. The whole thing is lined with foil so when the light is on, it's blinding. I also have paper towel rolls taped together running to an 80mm case fan that blows about 32cfm that sucks air out. Due to the way i've connected the fan to the tubes the cfm is reduced a bit. I will be replacing it with a 120mm 150cfm fan soon so it should have plenty of ventilation. Later tonight I am going to transplant the sprouts to individual pots with new soil to give them room to grow. I found a couple tiny bugs in my soil so hopefully transplanting will help with this problem as well. Last edited by CellZero; 03-19-2007 at 03:52 PM.. |

Day 7
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Day 7 and they plants are still looking great. I transplanted them last night after I took pictures and they all look pretty healthy. The plant on the front left (first plant picture) has significantly larger leaves than the rest, you can't tell very well from the pictures though. Possibly a different strain? I have no idea. All of the other plants are coming along pretty well. At this point i'm using water and superthrive. Last edited by CellZero; 03-19-2007 at 03:52 PM.. |

Hey dude, nice going. a few things though, I believe you have the tin foil up backwards...if you do insist on using it.
Personally I'd loose it, as you were already told, it creates hotspots. Especially when you have creases in it like you do. The bulb you have, is it 2700 lumens or is it 2700k? If it is the temp, it is for flowering not vegging. I think you'll find it is 2700k. As far as your fans, and not being able to utilize the power supply, simply get a 9 volt battery to power the fans. Better yet, if you have an old phone charger, that'll work too. Although they are 12 volt fans, they'll run fine at 9 volts. |

I will probably take the foil down tomorrow and buy some mylar. The bulb is 2700 lumens and I really am not sure the wavelength of the bulb. Got it at walmart and it didn't say on the packaging. The fan is not hooked up to the power supply, I have it running to 12v power cord from something (I have a box of these and I just pulled one out). The power supply is there because I am lazy and didn't take it out after testing some fans.

that CFL is way too far away should be about 3-4 inches away from your tallest plant..I knew something was up when I saw how much they stretched in one day. about that light... how many watts is it? how much did it cost?

its a 45 watt light that cost 8 bucks plus tax. The light was lowered. Thanks for the advice. Are there any disadvantges/advantages to plants growing tall fast? I would much rather have them short but just wanted to know for future reference.
