Default Vertical stadium HPS+LED - TGA Apollo 11,Cheese Quake,Ace of Spades,9 other strains

My last grow went pretty well, but now I'm back for more. We're heading out of town for christmas so I have time for one grow with time to harvest before then. I figure if I can get my vertical shelves built the way I am planning, I'm defiitely going to be set for bud for most of 2013 or into 2014 even I'm looking to find at least one and hopefully several TRUE keepers - elite genetics, both in growth characteristics and thc profile. I wouldn't be surprised to find a keeper of each of the TGA strains. The rest of the genetics I don't even know where they come from or how stable they are so who knows -- some interesting strains though

The dye is cast. The first 23 seeds are in water germing.

    TGA Apollo bx1 - 6 seeds
TGA Cheese Quake - 6 seeds
TGA Ace of Spades - 6 seeds
Cannacopia Genius x Deep Chunk - 5 seeds

I'm going to put half the TGA in my starter size airpots and half in 16oz cups for comparison. The second batch will all go in 16oz solo cups I'm not sure how much starter dirt I'll have left after the first 23...if I have enough I'll go ahead and germ the rest after the first go into soil... if not I'll probably wait til next week.

    1 Greenhouse Bubba Kush
1 Greenhouse Kings Kush (headband supposedly)
    2 Greenhouse Chemdog
4 BMF (C4 x Caseyband) - note: Always wanted to try C4 - not sure what Caseyband is but if it's a headband cross I would not mind that...
2 Cheese x Cheese (gonna be bummed if no fems!)
    4 Blue Cheese x Lush bx1
    4 Sparkle f2 (funky pheno)
2 Void x Grape Apollo (will be even more upset than the cheese if no fems, sounds yuuuuumy)
    4 Blue Dream x Cheese

    Methods:
2 vertical stadium shelves, 3 shelves tall, 6' wide, should be able to contain 6 x 3 = 18 plants per shelf, 36 plants total. Obviously with 43 seeds I have 7 too few spaces but I'm sure I can find room for one or two extra and a few germ failures is possible. Also once I remove males there will definitely be enough space.

    seeds: 43
Expected successful seedlings into veg: 40
    Expected females: 30
    Expected yield per plant: 1-1.5oz
Expected total yield: 30-45 oz (expect roughly 2lb)

    Soil:
Starter dirt is Foxfarm Light Warrior + A lot of coco + wormcastings
Normally I would go to a veg pot with veg mix then supersoil for flowering, but since this is a bulk pheno hunt with small pots, it will be my veg mix at the bottom 1/3 of the pot and then base soil around the transplanted plant. Will topdress/feed as needed in flower. All organic or as close to organic as I can get.

    Pots:
16oz solo cups, .6g air pots for seed starts
1.2 gallon air pots for veg/flower, though still deciding on this

    Lights:
    Seed starter pots - standard horizontal w/ 2 x 240w blackstars (veg & flower)
When moved to final pots - 400w HPS hung vertically, removed from cooltube (am going to be trying to upgrade to 600w at some point) + 4 x 240w Blackstar LED (2 facing each stadium shelf.

This is my last grow thread.

Next grow after I have worked out the kinks with this new system, I will be going on a true pheno hunt picking one TGA strain and popping several 10 packs (unless everything I grow this round is just crazy). If I had to pick one TGA strain to pheno hunt at the moment it would be Ace of Spades... hopefully I'll find something magical in the 6 beans I have left.

These were some of my favorite plants from last grow:
Serious White Russian (White Widow x AK-47)
My 2nd favorite, good yield for a small plant, happy silly weed

why the fuck isnt anyone here. do they not read. stadium status with hps is asking for even, above avg yields. way to go sensi.. how big are those airpots only 1.2 gallons?!? what are the dimensions of it..anyway what you are expecting to get ive seen pulled out of 4 sq ft with a 250w hps so you should kill that goal. how big is ur grow space? if u could i would go with a 3 gallon if u could fit that many in ur space, but 1 gal pots can still bring u that zip. whats the rule of thumb...1 ft per gallon and 1 oz per ft...IMO if u had a grow space of 6sq ft u would shit on 1 zip per plant

LOL just posted late last night That's what I'm hoping with the stadium - once I work out the best way to get the shelves built and done it's going to be downhill. I have a room dedicated for growing. I definitely think more than 1oz/plant is realistic and feasible with bigger pots but the purpose for this grow isn't maxing yields but identifying keepers. One of the reasons for keeping the pots small (besides more of them) is adding some stress on the plants to see how they react, make sure they aren't going to hermie, etc. Also for watering time. I'm trying to keep expectations down on yields if I got 1/2oz per plant it would be more than enough for my needs, everything else is just overkill. The airpots grow 2' per gallon of soil pretty comfortably, so a 1.2g airpot is roughly equivalent to a 2g normal pot for what you can get out of it. I grew 1oz from the OGK plant in a 1.2g last time and a) OGK is known to be a light yielder and b) that was the sickliest plant I ever grew and was harvested early.. would have yielded more if healthy/finished

I'm gonna make the shelves 5-6' wide, with about 1' between each shelf and try to angle the shelves so the plants are not just stadiumed, but angled towards the light.

Owl, I actually think rather than making the shelf angle adjustable, it'd be easier to make the shelves' rear legs raise up somehow to tilt the stadium forward a few degrees (but not enough to topple it). Owl actually had a couple of intriguing ideas that i'm pondering (like just using pvc pipe with soil across and a shared root system instead of pots altogether)

It should be a pretty crazy setup if I can get it going the way I am hoping/envisioning. I haven't seen anyone here do an HPS+LED vertical combo grow yet either

Hey! Sounds good, I wish I could be as organized. But my brain doesn't operate on that level
But it takes all types in this world of ours...

Idk if I understand the rear leg raising... You mean like sliding a book under the back legs?
If there were hinges at the front of the shelves, and a "pin and hole" system at the rear of the shelves, then they'd be adjustable from sprout to finish, and accommodate different strains and crosses.

Were you wanting the shelves to have holes in em to recess the pots? Or would they just be on the shelf in pots? Are the pots gonna be rigid, or Soft sided, like grow bags? Gonna water in place or move them to the tub?
Sorry, just trying to think on it.

Let me know when you want to build. My schedule is pretty flexible, and with you being so much closer to me now, and on a route I travel all the time, I can make the time to get away easier. We'll get you set up saweet!!

Glockdoc! What it is yo? I have been MIA from RIU here lately. Have my settings at 40 posts per page, so it looks like hundreds of posts to catch up on since I was around last.

Made some Apollo hash the last few days. Beautiful! I always forget how much I love hash.
I am going to start being more frugal with my trim.. Looks like the other two Apollo's will be up next, then it's all up to nature for the out side girls. Starting a sog soon. I'll put it in the Nest.
I need to do a super push like you sensei, so maybe I'll start germing today, and we can do a side by side and watch you sink my battleship

I just like to put as much in the grow thread as possible so i can look back later when I forget These are my notes to review where I did something wrong or right -- if I can't remember what I did, I can't fix it

You got what I was thinking

Definitely water in place. One of the biggest time waste factors for last grow was moving pots around for watering and light cycles... not doing it this time esp. with the larger numbers of plants I gotta keep watering time down. I'd love to put in an auto watering/mister type system but that seems like something for down the line. As far as pots thinking has to be hard if shelves are tilted. Shelves not recessed because may change pot sizes, with a guard rail on the front of shelf to prevent pots from falling if shelf is tilted.

I gotta wait til I get paid a bit more... move and higher rent wiped my reserves out and i'm still recovering. Expecting to have funds after getting paid Aug 10th. Weekend of the 10th? Yeah it worked out well on the location i'm liking it out here... outside of the city much lower cop profile. That is around the time that the plants are probably gonna need to come out of their 16oz cups so it'll be a good time to get the shelves up, although they can stand to stay horizontal for a couple weeks after transplant.

NICE! Yeah this is it for the year for me gotta harvest these bitches by 2nd week of december i could be ridin' to colorado for christmas with better weed than the dispensaries have The apollo is great for hash -- tons of trichey leaves.

    TODAY'S UPDATE:

Got too tired last night to get the seeds in... I mixed the seedling dirt (1 ft3 light warrior, 1/3 ft3 coco, 1/10th ft3 wormcastings) -- watered the whole batch today with ph 6.8 spring water. This was probably my best batch so far -- the light warrior usually comes out way too light and airy and can barely hold much moisture -- the coco let's it soak up a good bit more -- it was a great consistency once mixed and good water levels for planting -- not too soaked, not too dry (something i've had issue with in past).

seeds mostly had taps last night @ 24 hrs. Were transplanted today @ 36 hrs roughly - almost all had taps probably 2 or 3 had not popped yet and about the same were barely cracked... the rest had small to nice sized taps going. All but 10 in 16oz solos with cellophane wrapping over the top held on by a rubber band. The other 10 are in the humidity dome -- in my grow cab with my 240w veg blackstar about 3.5' above. Temp 84, humidity 36% (outside the domes) -- i gotta get a humidifier.

I expect most of them to pop the soil by tomorrow night @72 hrs, with the less cracked seeds following behind.

Guessing around 30 females, and everything's just a guess at this point. Could be more or less. Just basing it on past female ratios and average yields for previous grows based on plant size.

Don't think I can start second batch of seeds until grow area is going in my dedicated room. There's not enough room for that many in the cab I do at least have enough soil for the rest. So I'll probably work next weekend on getting the grow area sheeted off and camouflaged and a couple lights going for the babies.

I moved my cab over to my mancave for now... too hot in my office but perfect temps in the mancave 2 apollos up, 2 CQ breaking dirt, most still working on it can't tell on some due to moisture. Good things are coming! When they're all above dirt I'll do my first brief vid journal
