Well I just got my new LED lights in yesterday, so I took down the 400w HID light and my CFLs in veg (see old growthread link in sig). I now have 4x240w Blackstar flower lights for flower (960w, although it only pulls around 520-560 watts so that's what I consider it) in flower and 2x240w Blackstars (1 veg 1 flower) in the veg closet (soon to be a cab).

Hempdepot got my order and sent it out on the 20th -- their last order got here in one week so those seeds will hopefully be getting here this coming week -- TGA Cheesequake, Time Wreck and Ace of Spades -- though I won't have room to grow them probably until the first flower plants come out and some more girls go into flower. We'll see how many boys we get in veg too, though I've only had one male come up so far.

In flower now:

Daytime - Apollo 13 #1 and #2 (day 18 12/12, week 1 flower) Medicine Man #1 (not sure what day due to RIU crash)
Night time - Medicine Man #2 and OG Kush #1 - not sure on both of these either - med man #2 just a couple days in and og kush #1 about a week

In veg, going into flower in the next 2-3 days:
OG Kush #2
G13xHashplant
White Russian

Next generation of flower plants in veg:
Medicine Man (1 undetermined) - will go at the same time as white russian may not be able to determine gender til flower
Genius x Deep Chunk - 3 plants (undetermined), 1 indica mutant pheno and 1 sativa hybrid pheno that reminds me a lot of apollo13
Sour Kush (1 feminized) - feminized, needs more vegging/pruning
Romulan (3 females from clone) - have not figured out how to work them into the rotation yet it depends how many males I get and also the smoke report I hear on the females from void.. ideally I would like to cull 2 and keep only the best but i'll have to wait on the report

Romulans got transplanted to airpots and watered today. They were just about dried out and one had started getting curling/wilty leaves. One had a bit of a rough transplant.

This is where they are staying at night until I get a tent to put in my closet

Daytime flower crew (holla)

Going to do some trimming of lower branches (fresh cuts as well if possible) and re-training of the canopy to even it out
daygirls-side.jpg
The nighttime zoo crew (center plant is next in flower but not in flower yet) -- sickly og kush #1 on right will probably flower under veg lighting
nightgirls.jpg

Veg Girls - I gave'm their first nutes last time (just the low nute formula too not the big one) and they took OFF -- note to self: don't give'm too much fertilizer if you're trying to make them stay small the next two months....
veg.jpg
Not one blackstar for veg but two now! The flower side is going to have a couple of smaller flower plants underneath it regularly
newveg.jpg
OG Kush #2 got repotted into her final pot before flower and is going to flower under the veg lights (will remove her when i switch out the other plants)
ogkush2.jpg
These are the cuts - the apollo #2 cut that rooted best has already established and been put under the LED. The other 2 I am leaving under CFL until they start growing more.

So after about a day, here's my review on environmental factors:

Noise: FAR less than the noise my inline fan was producing. One or two blackstars is very quiet. More is a bit noisier but still way less than before. Before I could hear the fan going outside the room with the door closed. Now you can't hear the fan until you actually go inside the room and even then it is a low whir it doesn't sound like some huge fan is running. It sounds like the fan small electronics have -- it is definitely not louder than my ozone generator so that white noise generator will cover up any noise. I can always add a fish tank if I'm really worried about noise -- it definitely would blend right in with the kind of noise a fish tank produces.

POINT LED.

Ventilation: It is no warmer with no additional ventilation than the 400w was with an 250cfm inline fan drawing the air across the bulb and out of the cab. I don't have a temp guage but it feels no warmer than before (between 80-85, probably close to 85). Plants not yet showing any obvious signs of heat stress. In addition the heat is primarily concentrated above the LEDs, not below thanks to the way the ventilation on the LED lights works. If necessary, a very small fan could draw that hot air out and I already have a vent hole with 4" venting coming off. Right now that is laying next to the LED fans so that some of that air will passively exit the cab. No additional fan in the cab, though I have plants to put some small fans in for airflow purposes. Will probably put a big pc type fan in below blowing air up and one blowing air out at the top.

POINT LED.

Bud formation: Obviously way too soon to tell, but when I peaked in just a bit ago the flower plants were looking like they were loving it. This is of course the point that matters most :) As long as those LEDs grow somewhere between what a 400w and 600w would put out I'd be happy with the results.

LED wins hands down on stealth/environmental. Big leap to go all LED, but I have faith and I can always go back to HID :) When I have the room/security I'd love to put the 400w in the center and surround it on all sides with those blackstars. That would be a nice grow with nice results. Someday.

All the plants with flowers are apollo - med men went into flower later

Examined small ones for preflowers. Only found one potential preflower on sativa pheno GxDC - looks like possibly male but too early to tell for sure it is just forming

i got 16 of those little air pots. the ones in your last picture. used them once and threw them out. what a pain in the ass to water. takes at least 3 times as long as watering a party cup and watching the water flowing out of some of the holes was very annoying. what do you think of them? i'm a smart pot guy these days.

where did you get your apollo 13 seeds from? i bought F1 seeds from the brothers grimm back in the 90s and made a bunch of F2s. i'm curious to see what your flowering apollos look like. they are pretty distinctive looking.

I'll probably use'm a couple grows before I make a decision. They are definitely slower to water especially if you want to make sure you're watering thoroughly. I definitely spend too much time watering. I did not have good experiences in the cups at least under HID probably would be different now that I'm all LED. I like the small airpots because they can basically take the plant from seedling stage to flower without needing to transplant. Very easy to transplant -- you just open up the pot :) No holding the pot upside down and having dirt fall all over the plant and everywhere. How do you like the smartpots? I looked at those at well but just ended up going with these. If I decide I don't like these I might go with those. I definitely like the air pruning concept regular pots when the roots start to get rootbound it induces a lot of stress.

I got my apollo 13 from TGA, as far as I know the only breeder that has them. They do a lot of their crosses with apollo in it and also a lot of cindy99 crosses as well. I grew apollo 11 from f2s before and loved them and so far these apollos are definitely what i have the highest expectations of and they've been the hardiest growers. I've got cuts of both going (in process of taking root in pots) so hoping one of these is a keeper. My next seed purchase is all TGA as I'm very pleased with what I've grown from them so far and they've got a great rep from other growers. Also don't charge out the ass for their seeds, though not cheap either.

So I made the bold move to move MM #1 out of the flower cab and into the closet -- not enough room for 3 really wide plants in there, so looks like it's going to be 2 plants from now on and I'm gonig to have to pare down the flower plants. I moved OGK #2, G13xHashplant, and White Russian officially into 12/12 and put them in the dark this morning. With those 3 in getting flower time at night, there was room in the closet for MM #1 there.

Shit I got 8 plants in flower. How'd that happen. WAY too much... but I couldn't hold off anymore because they're getting too big either for LEDs or the 400w hps. Oh yeah, I remember how that happened -- have only found one male so far!!! And only 2 of those plants were from feminized seeds (OG Kush). On the bright side, if I can get close to 2 oz a plant.... *drool... coma* I don't expect to get too much yield off the 2nd generation plants as they're either smaller bushes or SOG style plants that aren't going to yield well under LED. Would be surprised to get more than 1oz each off those -- but could still end up with around 12 oz which would be twice as much as I need to last til next harvest.

i've been growing for quite awhile. i've tried damn near every size and shape pot there is up to 5 gallon. i've thrown out everything except 1/4 gallon grow bags, party cups and smart pots. pretty simple to transplant, i don't "peal" them like they recommed, i just squeeze the bag and turn it upside down. it pops right out and because they fill up with root mass so quickly, there was very little soil falling off (bonus!). quit messing with those air pots! after i got annoyed with them i started googling. about 1/2 the users (not people who know a guy but actual users) complained about the trouble watering them. my bud tried a water drip system with his approx 3 gallon air pots and he didn't like them either.

i'm here today looking for info on LED's. i'll check back to see how you liked them once you harvest. i'd love to reduce the heat in my grow room.

i started with one tent and now use a tent and 2 closets!

i'll have to go see what TGA has as a picture of a typical apollo. mine are all uniform in shape in size, they look like a bunch of clones or F1s they are so similar. a true breeding genetic. mr soul only sold 500 of the apollos and i accidently made more than 1,000 F2s.

i also bought cinderella 88s and have a bunch of F2s of those and 5 F1s that i didn't get around to growing out.

seeds i got! :)

i just realized that TGA is subcool seeds. i've grew out his third dimention a few years ago and loved it. i'll have to check out the some more of his stuff.

Haven't heard a bad report on his seeds yet. I'm basically trying to pick and choose seeds to cover most of the genetic lines he uses. I'll have most of them in my next seed order. Lots of different genetics gonna be going on up in here. Sub tends to pick plants that like to bush as well which works for my type of grow.

Day 19 12/12. Decided to water today since they both felt pretty light. Gave them nutes and a little bit of molasses and ej catalyst. Hoping to spark some additional bud formation. Haven't seen much change since switching to LEDs though it hasn't even been 2 days yet. They were nice and perky before watering but after a bit droopy in the pics.

Oh yeah best/worst news of the day. So I noticed some flowers forming on medicine man #1... got the 40x out this afternoon but didn't need it to see.... boy preflowers all over. NUTS. I guess I misjudged it early and never kept checking because I was more caught up with the apollos. Well I hope med man #2 is really female. On the bright side I didn't really have room for all these seeing as how I'd already taken med man #1 out of the cab (that's when i first noticed). So he's still alive for now but come dark tonight when I do my covert gardening on my patio his ass is meeting a body bag. Sorry, dude. Pretty sure the others are really female except don't know about med man #2 will find out soon. Also g13xhashplant was PRETTY sure but I don't think 100%. Will double be double checking the up and comers tonight.

I thought about getting 2 x 500w or 1 x 900w blackstar, but they are the same 3w diodes in all of them so it's the same strength light per diode just different concentrations. So the 4 x 240ws put out more wattage than a 900w blackstar at the same strength it's just evenly spred across the cab. They are still nowhere near the intensity of my 400w HID, but as long as they put out more than the 400w would I'll be happy definitely less heat.

Nice grow sensi...looks like you got everything dialed in....shame about the male mm...
Now you're growing in pink....ha love it..

Won't know about dialed in until we get the results :) I'm a bit disappointed on the slow flowering (not LEDs fault for sure) thinking maybe due to super soil having a lot of N. As long as they finish up fine I guess I don't mind a few extra days :) It's actually a good thing about the MM there was no room in the cab... now I'll have to think of which plant can go in that big pot ;) Maybe the sour kush since it's feminized -- she'll really take off if I do I'm sure. Would be tempted to put one of the romulans or apollo clones in but I want to find out which of the keeper is before I flower them again... won't know on the romulan for a few weeks til void gives me a report on his and won't know on the apollos til mid may unless one of the early bud tests proves dramatically more potent than the other

PSUAGRO.

Well either way I think you took the best led route by going multiple smaller panels than one larger panel.....nice even coverage and multiple height adjustments....never used super soil so can't comment about the n levels stunting your growth....have you checked your co2 levels?? Is your intake sufficient?

Be safe in Texas.....

I think he did too on the multiple leds

I don't know how soil would react to bottom watering but wouldn't have any issues using them with coco like that

Day 20... 3 weeks tomorrow they're a bit behind but doing ok. The bracts between the pistils are starting to fill in now you can see the bud material forming though it doesn't show up as well in these pictures as it does to the naked eye. They have definitely had noticably more each day the last 3 days since they've been under LED, so they seem like they are liking the LEDs

I found it very difficult to take pictures under these leds as well. so far so good! How much less heat are you generating with 4x pannels vs your 400?
