The first grow on this journal was my first grow ever so just the one sampling to go by. I ended up 45g for the double dutch and 41 for the blackjack.

The little heat wave we had around here is having me rethink my little grow box. I vented the exhaust outside the room and made another passive intake hole. Figures that the next week or so will be back to mild temps so I wont get a true idea if this helps but it definitely cant hurt.

The screens are about 7 inches above the buckets and the buckets are 8 1/2in tall. These two I'm growing now are sativa dom hybrids so I am anticipating more stretch, I figure another 4-6in or so above the screen. (Maybe more!)

Was going to post pics but my daughter took my camera camping this last weekend and took it to my ex's. Hopefully tomorrow or the next I will update with pics.

Ever wonder if the 1st time you do something, things go a little too well? Then when you try to repeat said something, a shitstorm of problems fucks up the whole program?

Well Mother Nature has been cooperating with me this week, and my re-configuring of my ventilation has helped to keep my temps ideally at 80 deg. Unfortunately when I was reworking my venting I dropped my oscillating fan on my trainwreck top. Very nearly sheared the top right off, I put a piece of duct tape over the wound and am supporting the top with my screen. I dont think the top is going to survive though, it is already wilting pretty badly and looked to be held on by a thread.

The heat of early this week has limited stretching alot. I dont think either has grown more than 1-2 in this week. Things are better environment wise and the blueberry is starting to stretch a bit and fill out. Hope my trainwreck top survives or my canopy will be a little sparse I think. Well hope I get my camera back tonight and pics soon.

I've seen some super cropped plants bounce back pretty strong, took about a week though. Maybe you should just take it off the rest of the way and try to root it?

I'm close to finishing my new smaller box inspired by yours (3x3x2ft) made out of 3/4" MDF to quiet it down. My temps are around 90-95 F with only one PC fan pulling a passive intake, but my lamp has really started to hum this past week so I think I'm going to make an MDF/glass hood/cooltube to keep the noise and heat down. I still haven't found a good quality fan that is really quiet enough though. I'll upload some pictures when I get it all done if you don't mind.

Ya ventilation is a must for a small box. The soundproof box I built for my fan is pretty quiet. Most of the noise comes from the air intake and exhaust. I originally vented my exhaust out of a baffle I made in the bottom of the box, but I needed to vent the heat out of my room. Luckily next to my office here is a small storage closet I vented into. Sounds like a jet exhaust in there but with the closet door closed it is silent as can be. There are alot of good threads for soundproofing your vent system on this site. I just used acoustic foam and styrofoam board and it worked pretty good.

On a sad note, the trainwreck top is dead. I cut it back to the last healthy node and it looks so small and sparse now. Hope it gets a growth spurt and stretches some, I left all the bottom branches in hopes of them reaching the screen. I am only 7 days into 12/12 so I should get some sufficient stretch. The blueberry is looking real good and has stretched a bit the past couple days. Showing nice bud formation and actually bulking up a bit too. Sorry for no pics but my kid still has my camera.

I would love to see some pics of your grow box fucked. Feel free to post whatever pics you want on here.

Sad to hear about losing a top, but that early in 12/12 there's plenty of time for it to recover. Might even help make it bushier and spread out into the screen more!

Well after a forced hiatus due to computer problems, I am back online just in time for a pic update before harvest. I flushed these both on friday and am giving water till I chop on saturday or sunday of next week.

This grow has been undeniably stressful both to me and the two ladies due to the extreme heat this summer has affected upon the country. Until I move in a few years and get a place with central air I will not be growing from mid june till mid september. Temps in my little grow box have averaged 93+ and limited the growth of both plants but especially the trainwreck. Didn't help with the top shearing incident I had in week one of flower, I can picture how much nicer she would have looked had she not lost 6".

I stayed with the same feeding routine, basically every two days I fed them hard but I flushed every 7-10 days with clearex this time. I think this made a difference in overall bud size and had little to no deficiency problems throughout. While overall yield will be lower than my first grow, this is attributed to the heat more than anything, and the size and volume of the buds is at least on par or better than my first grow. I am a definitely going to use the clearex from now on.

My first grow I trimmed leaves off like crazy, especially on the strawberry. This time around the only leaves that got removed are ones the plants let go of themselves. One plus of the canopy not filling in as nice is I didn't have alot of bud shading and with the temps as high as they were I did not want to stress them any further by removing anything.

By this weekend I hoping for more cloudy trichs and chopping by saturday or sunday as I said.

Here is some pics. Trainwreck first.

Those ladies look like they still have a little ways to go... is there a reason you're harvesting already? All those white hairs make me think the buds will get even fatter if given a week or two more.

EDIT: I just realized that post was from earlier in the week, so perhaps they'll be more "done" by the end of the weekend. I just usually ignore trichomes until after the plant looks "done" flowering by all the other indicators (i.e., leaves start to turn fall colors, most of the hairs turn brown, the bud plumps up). In other words, I don't harvest when the trichomes start to turn unless that's after the other indicators already happened. Though obviously I'm being a slight hypocrite since I just harvested my plant way too early a couple weeks ago. But that pained me!

Much of the white pistils that are visible (especially on the trainwreck) is due to foxtailing. The blueberry is starting to foxtail on top of the colas too, not as noticeable as the trainwreck. The blueberry is mostly red haired and leaves are dropping and yellowing, the trainwreck is fully developed on the lower portion of the colas and lower bud sites just shooting new white hairs and small thin calyx growth on top of the highest colas.

I believe the foxtailing is due to having too much light intensity this late in flowering. I believe I may look into raising my hood 5-10 inches during the last few weeks of flowering on future grows. If anyone has experience with this, comments would be greatly appreciated.

This saturday will be day 65 of flower. Trichs were about 5/75/20 (clear/cloudy/amber) on the blueberry, and 25/70/5 on the trainwreck. The blueberry suffered significantly less stress than the trainwreck early in flowering, and I would like to give the trainwreck another week or so to finish, but my grow box is also my drying box and I don't want to let the blueberry go too amber.

On another note I may be overcoming my fear and paranoia of ordering seeds online. I am looking to order from attitude seed bank and am looking strongly at Barney's Farm Liberty Haze and Acapulco Gold. Both look so sweet, and should satisfy my sativa craving with somewhat manageable flower times (65-75) days. Anyone have experience with either of the strains?

    Pics tonight or tomorrow. Peace

No experience with those strains, but I did order from Attitude with no problems so far. With my level of digital paranoia I'm amazed I was able to bring myself to do it. I think going forward I will stick to the Silk Road for seeds. It's mostly homemade crosses and stuff like that, but it's hard to beat the anonymity factor.

Default Blueberry and Trainwreck day 65 flower Harvest day

Day 65 the blueberry is about perfect at 20-25% amber, the trainwreck is a bit behind at only 10-15% amber. I would like to give the trainwreck a bit more time but my grow situation won't allow me to harvest separately so both have to come down tonight. The blueberry is maturing quick and I don't want to let it go anymore amber than it is. Both are looking very frosty and dense, and should be some very good smoke.
