The Mary Jane diaries, first CFL grow by THEK3N..

Hey RIU, I had another journal but it got lost so here we are from the start..

I am using my wardrobe as my grow space and I am using a 125w blue spectrum CFL bulb on a 12/12 light schedule ( I'm doing 12/12 from seed because of limited space). I have lined my wardrobe with white and have built a light fitting and a reflector ( be aware it has all been hand made from odds and ends due to lacking funds, I think it looks good considering hahahaha)

I germinated two White Widow X Big Budd seeds about the 26th-27th of Feb, had them planted by the 28th and saw the first sprout on the 29th. I have been using a mixture of soils, mixed about 60:40, ( 60% orchid compost and 40% Lincolnshire Garden Compost)

I think the soil is having some effects on them now as they are 20 days old I think there is some Nute burn on the lowest leaves, they started drying our from the ends about 3 days ago. I am not too worried at the minuet because it has only affected the lowest leaves and not any of the new leaves. Other than this I think they look all right, nice and green and still growing.


Any advice or tips would be much appreciated as I am still learning and well aware that I will make mistakes.

Oh yeah and if any one does know what it is that is affecting my plants I would love to know how to stop it, or if it will go away.

How are you watering? That orchid soil says it has feed for 4 to 6 week. If you water too little, too often, you can mess up your ph and cause nutes burn because it water released. Let them dry out and then water. Just a suggestion...rw

yeah I saw that it has nutes in it, but it didn't affect them until about day 15-16. I will let them dry out for a few more days and see how it does. Thanks.

day 21 has arrived and everything is good.


I'm not sure if I should chop Mary's twin or not? she is a bit smaller than Jane. let me know what you think.

yeah I was thinking that, I think I have a plant with weird genetics because I found a four bladed leaf on Mary last night.
It could be interesting to see how she turns out. maybe some mutant killer weed, hahahahaha...

Any one have any experience with WWxBB before?

I'm thinking of starting some LST in the next few days, i just have to get a uni exam out of the way first..

Day 22 is here and it is a glorious sunny day here, but unfortunately I discovered that some little critter has taken a few bites out of one of my babies!


I'm not too worried at the moment because they are only small bites and its only on those leaves, but if I find the bastard I will kill him!
Any one know what's doing this to my girls?

Don't sure what eating, maybe get some neem oil and/or pytherins to get them before they eat again. You spray on leaves to keep bugs away. Works....rw

I think its a little slug, small silvery trail on the soil.. it must have come in with the soil or gravel... any slug killing tips guys? x

Hey I'm thinking that now my plants are 3 weeks old it should soon be time for nutes? any one suggest some good cheap nutes for soil? Because I don't have a clue about nutrients..
Oh yeah and I started the LST on them just to bush them out a bit more and get more light to all the leaves.
I'm going to have to leave the girls behind in a few days as I have to go home during uni holls.. I'm hoping my flat mate can take care of them.. I can only pray.

Any one else got a grow at a similar stage? would love to check it out.

Oh, here is some pics of the girls, and that slug is still at large! I'm going to make a beer trap, apparently slugs like beer so much they drown in it..

Well you could use Fox farm. I don't know what you want to spend. I got a general organic starter box for $34.00 including shipping from amazon, Took less than 3 days to get here. Don't get carried away, grow these up and see how it goes. Start half strength at the beginning and see what happens...rw Private message me, if you have more questions or I will check here.

OK had to leave the plants today, hopefully my flat mate can take care of them.
I was thinking about organic nutes, but i think the soil has some nutes in it already, I might just buy bloom nutes for when I switch to flower.
btw, when should I switch to flowering?

Depend on big you want to get. I veg for 10 days after I put them in 1 gal pots and they were over 3'. I had to super crop them to keep them out of light. So I see your lst, so what I understand you want to veg for a while. Look for in searth for Lst, see what there....rw
Here's a purple haze clone 42 days in flower, I can taste it. Probably two weeks from harvest.

The plants look great, and the slug has gone!

I think they are showing sex, sorry about the quality
because they are showing sex should i switch them to red spectrum CFLs?

I'm doing 12 12 from seed, but I'm guessing cos pistils are showing I should switch?

Can any one hazard a guess when they will be done? Just curious to see if I got my timings right..

That what I am doing 12/12 from seed my self. Sativa/dom can take 12 weeks, indica/ dom 9or 10 week. Go check out the 12/12 from seed thread, there are a lot of us, it's a friendly place. You figure it run the same as if you veg. a month and then put in 12/12, and yes put more light on them. I have a 400w hps, more light in flower more bud. I got a purlpe haze clone i am harvesting now.. You are welcome to check my grow out, in my signature..grow on ...rw

Ok I ordered my red spectrum light, I bought it on eBay i went with one that gave me a free sample of ace of buds additive.
Has anyone used this additive before? I'm thinking about using molasses, because I have heard that it beefs them up.

Molasses feed microbes, who break down nutes for plants. It will dense up the buds. That stuff you got probably made of molasses any way. Go to food store and get baer rabbit blackstrap molasses, what ever you get make sure it's unsulfered. Add 1 tbs of molasses to a gallon of water, I use it from when i mix soil. Some of bud additive contain a decorative plant preservative, it causes cancer, so I stay with molasses...rw
