Out of the City, into the Vortex, on the Qrazy Train--Recycled Organic Soil

I've been growing awhile and journalling on another site, but the life's somehow sadly been sucked out of that place. Since I'm starting a (for me) much anticipated TGA only grow, I thought I'd check out the RIU community and try a journal here.

I'm one year into a two year quest to run a lot of strains through a diy cabinet, pretty much as fast as possible, with a 600w HPS for flowering and T5 fluoros for vegging, cloning and moms. Good, overkilled HVAC. Supersoil in smart pots, recycled after every grow. Room for no more than seven, and I prefer five, plants in flowering, where I use #5 or #7 smarties. Mostly automated watering with tropf blumats. Water only with occasional top dress of earthworm castings, comfrey, sometimes other org components in teas.

I don't really care about yield at this point, I care about assessing each strain's taste, smell, buzz and ability to thrive in my environment. So I don't veg a long time or train for maximum bushes. I have grown haze hybrids with next to no veg, and have grown outdoors to experience cannabis trees....fun, but not my goal these days.

I want to end up with a top ten, or less, of bonsai mothers to live with and grow for the rest of my life. I already have ten of them, so every grow now is a competition for a spot on the mom's shelf. I'm very excited about my next two contenders--Vortex and Qrazy Train.

So I would welcome you to join me for this run...I guess I see what RIU is trying to do by separating journals and discussion, so I'll open a discussion thread in case anyone wants to chime in, offer suggestions or just shoot the shit bongsmilie

I love cannabis photography, almost as much as growing. Here's where I started this run
SeedPacks.jpg
I started these seeds using the wet paper towel method. I've also used the direct plant method, but once had a bad batch of seeds (from Vancouver Seed Bank, not hating on em, just saying, me and another experienced grower got 0/20 out of that batch of supposedly God Bud, wtf :spew:) and hated that I couldn't see what was happening to them under the soil. So I've gone back to the highly visible paper towel method. I used to pre-soak with H2O2 solution, but now I just use a warming mat, some insulation and temp monitors to make sure it doesn't get too hot, and my RO water. I like simple...

Sad about the hack of this site, which took out almost all I had posted on this grow. I'm taking that as a sign to shut down the thread--not so much directly because of the hack and the loss of data, as much as my realizing the discussion is better for my purposes in an organic-only grow community. Good luck to yall. I'll still post from time to time in the TGA sub forums, since I am liking their gear...
