Welcome to my new journal. I just re-setup my tent. I am making the switch to hydro from soil. My tent was running soil for the last 6 months, I have gotten about 5 harvests out of my tent and thought I was ready to make the switch to hydro(I really just got tired of manually watering every plant every couple days.). So I now have a 3x3 tray, with a 21 gal. reservoir. I fit 16 clones into the new setup. I am going to veg these clones for a week, then switch to 12/12. So here is some pics of my setup. I built a little stand for my tray. Setup my reservoir, pump, airstones. Put my clones in and boom. I am going with the Cutting Edge Solutions line of nutrients for this grow. So off we go!! I also threw in a pic of a nug of the midnight kush from my previous soil grow. Cheers!

The medium is Growstones. Ah yes, I forgot to mention. I had 3 mothers, one of which was pretty sickly looking after having her roots cut by accident coming out of the cloner. I still took a few clones off her and they ended up having some nice roots on them even though they are pretty sickly looking. I had the space for them so I put them in. I have found that the small sickly looking ones shoot back the best though and I am anxious to see how they do now that they are in some nutrients. Keep an eye here in should be kicking out some sexy girls!!

nice man, theyre on the road to recovery and thats all that matters. how tall worth the mothers? and id like to try out some of those grow stones, how often are you feeding them?

The mothers were not huge. Here is a pic of the one mother that I kept alive. She is the only plant in my clone closet right now. I am going to take 4 or 5 cuttings from her to turn into my next set of mothers. The flood tray floods 3 times with lights on, and 1 time during the lights off. They are on 18/6 lighting for this week.

Hey J, I am diggin' the new hydro setup. I can't wait to see some more of that midnight kush you had last grow but in hydro this time. Do you have any other strains that your running yet? I'm sub'd up and this time I won't be such a stranger.

Hey guys- Just an update, Couple days in now and all the clones are looking happy. They have all responded well to their first feedings and looks like all 16 are gonna make it. I am thinking of waiting another week for the smaller ones to start to catch up and then will top the tall ones even with the rest. I will get some more pics in a couple days.

No I have some seeds hidden away, I cant even remember the strains right now. I have also been trying to choose one or two others to order but its so damn hard! So for now im stick with what I got untill I can decide what I want to go with next. I really would like to add another tent. I think when I do that I will add another strain.

Man, I LOVE the winter. I am running my light on turbo 600+ and temps are maxing out around 79-80 in the tent. Night time tents in the low 70s. Not having to run that damn A/C is amazing, not to mention now the heater wont be needed on this section of the house lol.

Very interesting, best of luck mate. The tents are pretty cool and I am setting up one now for a veg room/nursery. And I totally hear you about Winter and heat exchange issues. My goal is too grow all my own over the winter months and take the summers off !

I look forward to watching your journal progress.

How long are you flooded the rocks mate? Same as hydroton 5x day? They seem very porous and look like theyd hold more water than hydroton.

Reason I ask is im about to start an ebb and flow with growstones in a week once my seedlings sprout thru the rockwool.

I love the winter too, i'm currently collecting temp and humidity data while I try different things. Right now I have exhaust going on a timer and have no light exhaust going. Tried both going and the room dipped to lows of 62 and highs of 72. If the room gets too hot i'mma put the light fan on its seperate timer and run it at 2 hours with lights on then again every 2 hrs till 2 hrs before lights out. Keep some heat in there. Trying to get low of 70 and highs of 75-78.

I have been flooding for 15 mins every 3 hours, during lights on. And I flood twice with the lights off. Works out to 6x a day. The growstones are pourous and do hold water and air better than hydroton. I may be able to cut back, but my babys just look so happy im sticking with it for now.

I think your right about timing your exhaust fans, My light exhaust is also hooked up to my scrubber so I dont want to ever turn it all the way off, I think I should look into a fan speed controller so I can just lower the exhaust as temps are cooler in the tent. The other night the lights had been on for 6 hours and when I checked the tent the temp was 75, and RH was 40. Its amazing how just 2 months ago I was running the light on 400w cause the tent kept getting up around 85 with the light on 600 or higher.

Lol, love that show.

Thanks i'm going to get a liter of the media and put in a liter of water and see how much runoff is left to figure out how many liters one liter of media holds and see how long it takes for the remainder to exit.

Yeah I've seen people setup their grow sharing a fan like that, I personally like having 2 separate systems for the control. Fan speed controllers are a nice thing. Got one of those I may have it on the light exhaust and trim it down to 50% and see what temps are like running exhaust and light exhaust, see if it keeps room temp steady since I cannot keep my main exhaust not going once I flower. Maybe i'll get a tiny spaceheater for flowering or unplug the light exhaust entirely and put the fan speed controller on the main exhaust and put it at 20%. 20% of 550CFM is still a lot for the room I got. All trial and error and monitoring.

Whacky temps around here also, a month ago we had 80 degree weather with high humidity. October should have went down in the records for having a high 80 degree days and then snowing 20"+ in the same month.

How come you flood during lights off? Also 15 minutes is a bit long for a flood, no? I was planning on doing the last flood an hour before lights off or sooner and for like 3-5min floods(however long it takes to get to the overflow)

I flood with lights off simply to insure roots don't dry out. 15 mins is the lowest setting on my timer. In 15 mins my pump just reaches the top water level in the tray and then drains. So it seems like it is just the right amount of time for my pump size. When I first set the system up my pump was to big and would flood the entire tray in about 3 mins, and mt drain hose wasnt draining fast enough and before 10 mins hit the pump had emptied the entire reservoir into the tray and was out of water to pump. Thats why I switched to a smaller pump.

if you had adjustable lights and kept them 6-10" above the plants, do you think they would grow shorter n fatter? i know all plants reach for the light so if the light was closer maybe they will grow fat before growing tall. just a thought
