Default Virgin here...

Hello everyone and welcome to my grow journal.

So far I have acquired a few things, but not everything I am going to need. As for soil I have obtained a 16Qt. bag of Miracle Gro Organic potting mix for container veggies, flowers, and herbs. The nutrient mix is .10% .05% .05% I planned on mixing in some perlite/vermacilite, but didn't see it at either HD or Lowes.

I plan on using CFL's for lighting during Vegging and possibly during Flowering. I just picked up a GE 29wt with 2200 Lumens CFL. I also have a 5 1/2" reflector for it.

I have a PH tester as well as a timer for the light.

Ok I just tested the PH of my tap water. It is at 7.6 If my knowledge is correct you want a 6.5-7 PH correct?

Buy a ph kit at a hydro store. 7.6 is too high you are correct on the levels were you want it to be.

Your grow room sounds very similar to what i've got. You didn't mention a moister meter there. It's not essential but a great tool to have.

Good luck!

Yes, I decided to use CFL's after reading your grow journal. I am on a budget as well as do not want increased electricity as much as a HPS would push it. I only have one CFL right now, but gonna check out Wal-Mart to see what they have. Lowes did not have any CFL's over 29 watts. Hoping to get some 45 watters like you have.

For the moisture meter I plan on getting one as well as a soil PH reader and thermometer.

You need at least 1 light per plant with a shade/reflector, but you know what they say the more light the better. With the CFL's you are able to get the light nice and close. I hope this helps some

Happy Growing to you!!!

For the cfl's i would use atleast 1 42w or 45w or 2 27w per plant, more is always better. Most people say to get the cool white 6500K cfl's for vegging those are the blue spectrum. The biggest 6500K cfl i could find at HD was 27w i think . For the perlite i got mine a HD in the gardening section.

Will post some pics soon. Need a new battery charger for my digi.

All that gardening stuff has been out of season, home depot has just recently started restcoking it, mine finally stocked perlite to the shelves. check back once a week, they will get it in eventually.

Ok so I check out Wal-Mart and they had some 42 watt CFL but they only pushed 2700 lumens. The 29 watt CFL I allready have is giving off 2200 lumens. I plan on getting some more 29 watt CFL's based on the fact they give off more lumens per watt.

WM also did not have any perlite. Guess I will get some when I can and use it when I transplant later on.

The 42 watt CFL is giving off 64.28 lumens/watt while the 29 watt CFL is giving off 75.86 lumen/watt.

Pics coming soon once it sprouts!!
