Got a mini fan, a temp and thermometer thingy, PH test kit, and ive lifted everything up close to the lights. The room has been a bit cool, at 70 degrees. I just added a Lava Lamp to see if that will bring it up 5deg or so, as they give off a good amount of heat. The room is located in a closet under a stairway, which ive used duct tape to light-proof. All water has been tap water that I usually let sit for 24hours, but sometimes didnt. It shouldnt have chlorine anyway- its hard water from a well.

The larger plant is the youngest, sprouted 2 days ago. The next best looking is 3 days old, and the basically dead one is 4 days old. I recently moved the whole room to a different part of the house (that recieves less heat) and the first plant just kinda... stopped. Its looked like that for a few days.. Im reluctant to toss it because its not getting crunchy... idk.

Heres the room at present- with a lava lamp to give off a little heat. I have a small heater i can use if need be, but its a bit too big.



FIRST BORN. This is the one that didnt survive when i moved the room. As it currently sits.


Second born. Not bad.


Third born. The youngest, and yet the biggest.


I planted the clear cups 3 days before the dixie cups. I used potting soil in the clear cups, and peat moss soil in the dixie cups. As soon as I see roots in the clear ones, ill move them to a non-clear pot.

I would say, get those lights closer for sure. maybe 2-3 inches tops, closer the better. Light is like food for the growing babies.

Also when you transplant be sure to get into pots that are not clear, roots don't like the light. Do you have drainage holes in the dixie cups? you need that too if not.

might keep ya busy for a minute.

I moved the lights closer today, and also got more of them.

I removed 2 13w CFL's and replaced them with 4 26 watters.

All of the cups have holes at the bottom (but nothing has come out of there, should i be watering more?). It seems like the #1 noobie mistake is OVERWATERING. Im being very careful NOT to overwater, but nothing is coming out of the bottom of the cups. Granted, the soil is peat moss, which holds on to water very well. I can still see moisture in the dirt underground on the clear cups, so im assuming I am fine. As long as there is moisture in there, the roots will search for the water, right?

Question- if you look at my lighting fixtures, you can see that I am using several splitters to hold more light bulbs. Is this generally accepted as safe- or is it a fire hazard? Your thoughts?

Oh, and one of the seeds from the dixie cups sprouted today... Its still all yellow and laid down, but they seem to pick up and start turning green within a few hours.

2 more sprouted since my last post. I also named them all. Mary, Jane, Caity, Veronica, and Vivian. (hey, a guy can hope for all females!)

Yes, it's generally safe. People do it all the time.

Also, I second what the other poster said. Growing in clear cups is bad news.
