Fellow growers, connoisseurs, and enthusiasts, I welcome you to my journal. For certain reasons I must say that all things written and 'photographed' in this thread are indeed figments of my mind, computer animated, and are not in any way real or a threat to anyone.
THAT SAID, pull up a chair, light one up and watch the science experiment unfold:)

(Copied - and edited - from my journal entry on June 26, 2010)

This grow will be the first one with the new setup: I'm running it with two 300 Watt LED's - One 300 Watt LED is comparable in output to 900-1000W HPS, so in other words I have about 1800-2000 Watts of usable light for the 'price' of only 600. Under the lights I've got a twelve bucket system with a 32 gallon reservoir, and I've been switching back and forth between General Hydroponics nutrients and Technaflora's BC nutes.

I got a hold of twelve clones two weeks ago, Bubble Gum(x3), Purple Hawaiian(x3), Granddaddy Purple(x2), Morning Daze(x2), and Chocolope(x2). They're doing well, a little yellowing of the old leaves from the shift in environment and such...

I'm also using Sure to Grow inserts, which have been working well, but there is obvious nutrient buildup/algae at the tops because my water would submerge the medium and cover the top. I talked with the dude who owns the company and he said the STG inserts should be kept secured at the top of the buckets and not compressed down which is why there is nutrient buildup and stuff there. Look at the pics, you'll see what I mean. I'm not trippin about it, my girls are looking wonderful and loving their new home - but any info anyone may have about it would be appreciated.

Thanks for reading!

Yeah, I fimmed the girls today and put wire hooks through the medium so it wont condense every time it gets watered...this will in turn eliminate the algae and nutrient buildup on the tops of the medium. All gravy.

Gonna construct another room for vegging this week so I can take some clones, perhaps plant some seed, get them going on 18/6, and start these girls on 12/12. bongsmilie

In the pics attached some, most, of the girls are looking kinda droopy. This is because it was more difficult putting the wire hooks through the medium than one would think, so they took a bit of a roughhousing, if you will. Don't worry, they'll be fine within a couple days.

So far these LED's have worked really well for me, and if you can afford them - like a good 300 or 600 watts worth - then I say why not? They stay very cool in comparison to HPS or MH, are more efficient to run and last longer as well.

Thats what I've got for ya, enjoy the pics - after next week, and into the next few weeks I promise we'll start seeing some buds :)

Questions? Comments? Concerns? lay em out friends

rastafied and signing off,

@ Growalater - thanks man, I'm doing what I can.

Since moving the medium up and hooking it, two plants started dying which tells me that their roots aren't long enough yet for them to be pulled up. Though I believe we got to it in time, my cuz and I are a bit worried as to their chances of survival. We'll see. (the last pic is of one of the girls who's dying)

All the others look like their loving it. Time to start flowering soon this week...I'll have better shots up and maybe some pics of the under-construction permanent vegging room (or rather closet of current room) Also have been needing to raise the lights; and in my case that means its close enough to time to flower:)

nothing super exciting, I know...hope everyone had an enjoyable 4th!
Peace.

Just as a morning update from last nights post: the unhappy plant is responding very well and is looking a lot stronger than it did last night which tells me it should survive. Though it is really stunted and shocked, it will recover and just be a little smaller than the others.

Thanks for reading, more pics up soon, and bud shots shall begin in 2-3 weeks, as long as I can get the closet cleared out for my vegging and get that setup all...set up, then I'll be switching to 12/12 by the end of this week.
keep yourselves good

Quick update, for myself and for anyone else interested or might care...

We got everything, well mostly everything, we'll need for our vegging/cloning closet....propagation trays and covers and whatnot, a water pump, as well as an air pump, and some 1/4'' fittings of this and that...some confusion and a few bowls later we're done...shopping that is, and now we'll need to drill some shit and put it all together, then a perpetuating, continuous, garden is ours.

Attached are a lotta photos cus I like taking them....a bit too much but its okay.

Damn, that's quite the line-up of plants. Good looking setup. I've heard mixed reviews about LED's, but never followed a grow. Hard to argue with your results so far. Cheers.

Thanks man - yeah this is the first time I've used LED's and so far I can't say enough good things about them (minus the high purchase cost...but I got these from China for about half the price they go for in the states...so yeah)
peace

Quick update with some phone pics - all the girls are healthy and growing. We're holding off on starting them flowering mainly because I'm waiting on some more of the media/medium (the white foam stuff) to come in.

Regardless, anyone catch the world cup Spain v. Netherlands? A yellow-card-clusterf**k if you ask me. They were giving 'em out left and right it seemed like. Overtime was pretty intense though...

Things have been going well for our ladies here. We made some minor and major improvements to the grow room - from putting clear plastic around the floor of the entire room and hanging black tarp to section off the flowering area, to setting up our vegging closet - it feels a lot more like a grow room should feel.

Tonight their first night getting cut back to twelve hours, so we're very excited for what these next two months will unveil.

Oh and just so you all know I'm saying WE because this is a collective grow - my cousin and I both have recommendations.

The girls are all doing great, no bugs or burns (with the exception of a few leaves grew into the regular fluorescent house lamp, which is why you will see the lamp in the pictures hanging upside down...we figured, well, why not? It's not everyday you get the opportunity to do such a thing like hanging regular house lamps upside down over your plants.)

haha, its easy to tell the different genetics between them, especially by height. Its a good thing we have two lights and not just one!

The vegging room (closet) is almost done, we just need to get the STG medium, drill some holes and take some cuttings:)

We pulled the table in the room out about a foot and a half so it's possible to walk around to the back plants. We also moved the mylar we already had up into the closet veg room and re-mylared the flowering room so it is one solid sheet along each wall.

I think that's all I've got, I'm quite content with the progress so far. :joint:
PEACE

Plants look nice, Im for sure scribin, I really want to see how the led's do their thing, there certainly intriguing. How many days of veg are these girls? they look great, any idea of what your shooting for as far as yield? Seems like I heard totally different opinions about led's, havent been around for awhile so Ive never followed an led grow, I suppose flowering is where hopefully that usuable light will actually help production. Sounds like fun, Im in, keep up the good work, peace!

Welcome to the room, man - you also have to take a hit before entering, haha.bongsmilie
I'm really excited to see what these LED's can do too as far as flowering. I'm not trying to expect a super high yield, that way I'll either be happy or amazed as to how much we get, but I'll have a better answer for you in 2 1/2 months
keep it good.

im happy to see more ppl using leds. personaly i have a 600 watt led that im liking the results from however i have heard that 2x 300 watt leds are better then a 600. also 2x180's beat a 300. under 180 though not really that great.
leds seem to work very well but the footprint is my only concern

Yeah I'm really liking the LED. I thought the footprint would be worse using HPS or MH since they use more power?

Oh and they've been vegging for a month (June 13th) since I bought them as clones, which were 2, maybe 3 weeks old.
