This is my first grow journal everyone, but 3rd grow. I also have an outdoor grow Ive started as well, but dont expect much updates on it. I wasn't able to procure a digital camera until now, so you all have missed out on veg. Im officially on the first day of flowering.

I will break the details of the grow into 3 separate posts. Strains, Lighting, Fan/Filter, & Tent, and finally the Soil & Nutrients.

Strains

Mandala Satori
Type:
sativa-indica Contains land race genetics from: Nepal Cultivation: indoor/outdoor Light: requires a minimum of 250W HPS/m2 Flowering time: 65-70 days/October Yield: 550-600 gr/m2 (dry weight); 850-1200 gr per plant outdoor in the ground (dry weight). THC: 23-28% High: a clear, cerebral high and strong potency sets in quickly; it supports concentration & creativity; very inspiring and stimulating. Ideal for writers, artists, musicians, or other creative people. Aroma: fruity-citrus, pungent; plus a variety of exotic scents. Medical use: Satori shows her therapeutic potential in relieving depression and anxiety; this strain can ease sleep disorders from auto-immune diseases and Restless Legs Syndrome (RLS). Excellent medical-grade marijuana.

Cannacopia C99 x Deep Chunk
C99 x Deep Chunk Touted by the original creators of this strain (Brother’s Grimm) as the Holy Grail of Cannabis, we’ve used a select pineapple / exotic ripe-fruit smelling C99 clone as the mother in this outstanding hybrid of Cinderella 99 and the Deep Chunk Indica. The resulting seeds are a great representation of a vigorous indica/sativa hybrid, producing plants with long, dense, spicy-sweet smelling floral clusters. The flavour and odour are remarkably pleasant, and the effect is intense but balanced; both clear and expanding of mind. The yield is slightly above average (300-400 g/ sq m).

Sam the Skunkmans Original Haze X Skunk #1
Breeder :
Sam the Skunkman
Flowering Time : 12 Weeks
Seeds Per Pack : 10
Original Haze is one of the most electric pure sativas from the 60s and 70s. With an unforgetable taste, the quiet slim buds produce incredible resin which made this plant a perfect candidate for cross breeding with a reliable plant such as skunk #1. The combination makes for a fantastic energetic high. Although this quality takes a bit longer its worth the wait.

87.5 Sativa

T.G.A. Jack the Ripper
Jacks Cleaner P1 X Space Queen
High Times Top Ten list 2006
Featured in the Big Book of Buds 3 Page 86,87,88,89
Jack the Ripper is well named because it is absolutely killer weed. A true 8 week Sativa Haze the first thing growers notice is the incredible lemon smell and heavy resin production. It has been described by UK growers as the best 8 week haze ever produced.
This plant will produce triangle shaped spear buds that pretty much stopped active calyx growth early and produced copious amounts of resin instead, resin production was evident from day 12 in 12/12 but really started to fatten up the heads around day 50 or so.
I find it performs best unstopped with a long vegetive period. The high is very creeper at first you may think that its not so strong but then whammo...it hits you hard and there's no turning back then...you will be deep in thought and meditative for quite some time...the duration and intensity is strong and thought provoking.
Phenotypes - Two main phenotypes both with a Lemon Haze smell and short growth one tends to be more a pine smell.
Height-Look for the Short Pheno/ Colas swell late
Yield-Medium-Heavy / Moderate trim work
Indoor/ Outdoor
Best way to grow- Untopped and vegged to a full bush.
Harvest Window_8-9 weeks
Sativa/ Indica 70/30
Hybrid-Pluton X Purple Haze X Lambsbread X NL X Jack Herer X Romulan X Cindy99BCGA
High type-Intense, trippy, visual, phase shifting, increased heart rate, heavy crash increased appetite, pain relief, paranoia
Taste Like: Lemon mango pine hash with a heavy haze influence

T.G.A. 3rd Dimension
This 3 way cross of super elites is our fastest maturing hybrid. Having a very tropical taste reminding me of coconuts and Pineapple almost like a Pina Colada. The strain gets done very fast but does not lack in potency. The added boost of Jack’s Cleaner seems to really boost up the Sativa influence but the buzz is still very calming and relaxing with a nice mix of the three THC profiles present. I really enjoy smoking this weed so the smokability factor is high for flavor and taste.
Medium Yielding Hybrid with strong speedy buzz
Phenotypes –Mainly Sativa with incredible speed and high resin production
Height-Medium stretch/ Triangle shaped Colas
Yield-Medium / Easy to Trim
Indoor/ Outdoor
Best way to grow- Topped and vegged to a 30” Bush
Harvest Window_45-50 days
Sativa/ Indica 60/40
Hybrid-Apollo-13 X Jack the Ripper
High type-Warm soft waves of high and very easy to smoke
Smells: Tropical flavors range from Cocoanuts, pineapples, Kiwi and fruit punch
Incredibly fast plant great for making Red bubble.

Dinafem Cloud Nine
Manufacturer: Dinafem Genetics Critical + x JYD Haze Variety Mostly Indica Feminised THC Content 12 - 19% Flowering Time 60 - 70 days Harvest Month Mid October. The followers of Critical+ are so due to its rapid growth, heavy harvests and intense flavour. Pollinating it with JYD Haze, which has an 84 day flowering period, Dinafem have tried to increase the psychoactive level as much as possible without excessively increasing the flowering period, trying at the same time to obtain a better resistance to high levels of moisture. Critical+ is obviously the dominant part in the crossbreed, which matures slightly later but in exchange has greatly improved its flavour and effect. The quantity and size of the resin produced by this hybrid much surpasses that of Critical+, while the flavour includes more tones than that of its mythically productive predecessor, which is now a reference due to its intense flavour.Another clear consequence is its growing vigour, which has increased markedly. This hybrid tends to grow in the form of a Christmas tree, with long branches, all stemming from the main trunk. A small amount of these plants flower somewhat later due to the Haze genetics. It is recommendable to allow these plants to mature in order to obtain a more intense flavour and effect.

The final strain are some bag-seeds that came out of some purple buds.

-------------------------

The JTR, 3rd D, and Cloud Nine are all freebies from the recent Attitude promotion. There are two JTR females, one male, one 3rd Dimension female, and a male. The TGA plants are the most vigorous plants, and have the tightest internode spacing Ive seen in my modest time growing, so I am hoping for some lovely compact buds.

The strain I am looking most forward to is Sam's Skunk Haze. These beans are 20+ years old, and I got 7 lovely plants out of them. There appears to be 5 females so far. These are old school genetics from a legend, so Im hoping for great things from them. The 12 weeks flowering time is the bare minimum. Some of the ladies can take up to 18 weeks to flower, so get a comfy seat if you are in for the long haul.

Once the males are identified and are close to flowering, I am going to separate them, snip off a main cola and place it into water, and collect pollen as the cola continues to mature. Ive never done this, but Ive read it works. If anyone has done this to collect pollen please chime in.

*Edit, I will be taking VeggieGardeners advise and stuffing my promising males into a tent with some CFLS. I will then make f2's of the Satori, JTR, Chunky Cinderella, and O. Haze x Skunk #1, and Purple bag-seeds if I get a male, as well as doing some crosses. Ive got a lovely JTR male that outclasses many plants in the tent, so he's gonna get busy with all the ladies.

Below are some pics of the tent wide open. The indoor plants age ranges from 50-53 days from seed and have all been topped via Uncle Ben style. Ill try and reduce the HPS orange in future pics. This was the best I could do atm. The plants in the dixie cups are some bag-seeds that are going out in a few weeks, and the smaller plants next to them are Seedsman Early Durban that came from Sam's original seeds, but theres no telling how much they've been worked over the years. The ED are also going outdoors, but I may take a few outdoors pics at some point.

Picture 002.jpgPicture 004.jpgPicture 001.jpg

Heres a Haze x Skunk that actually developed lateral shoots from the cotyledons after topping. This plant only has 3 tops due to a cutting accident. Dont do like I did. This plants wingspan is insane. The colas refuse to grow updwards. They just want to grow in a parabolic arc.

Below are some pics of a Satori(unknown sex), that has the most serrated blades I have ever seen. Im pretty sure I could cut somebody with them.

More pictures will be supplied I hope tomorrow night.

Lighting:

600w Lumatek Dimmable Ballast that is paired with a Ushio Hilux Gro. A smart buddy online highly recommended it to me. Im using the Super Sun II air cooled reflector after reading this thread. These were bought brand new for this grow.

On the other side of the tent is a generic D. Ballast, Reflector, and Bulb that my buddy supplied that hasn't been used before. It will be interesting how the yield compares under each setup. Ill be seperating females of each strain between the lights to see how much difference in yield there is. I wouldnt take any results as anything official as Im doing this run from seeds, but its something to look at nonetheless until I can repeat using clones after finding some moms.

Fan/Filter:

A 6 inch Valueline Inline fan moves 435 CFM of air. Its paired with a generic filter off ebay as well. I plan on upgrading to a Phresh Filter 6x24 in the next couple of days. I hope the 6x24 will get the job done. If anyone has experience with 30+ plants flowering, Id greatly appreciate your input on the size of the filter needed. Also if anyone knows any hydro shops online that will allow you to return a carbon filter w/o a restocking fee please chime in. My local Hydro shop wont allow any type of returns on filters, and I dont want to get stuck with a $170 filter thats useless.

*Edit: I have spoken to someone that uses the 6 x 24 Phresh filter, and he gives it his thumbs up for large grows, so it looks like that will be my next purchase.

Tent:

The tent is also a generic ebay 8' x 4' x 6.5' mylar tent. Nothing great about it, but it will get the job done until I can upgrade in the future to something better.

Soil & Nutrients

My soil mix has altered from the beginning, but I have finally settled on Fafard #52 as the base for my soil mix. It is mostly comprised of Aged Pine Bark, which happens to be my favorite medium. It provides great drainage, so much that perlite isn't necessary if the APB is course enough.

Fafard #52 is(if I recall correctly):
10% Perlite
10% Vermiculite
25% Peat Moss
15% Aged Pine Bark Fines
40% Aged Pine Bark Course

Amendments:

10% mixture of Compost & EWC.

Going over 10% resulted in a muddy mucky mess that I didn't care for, but people do use 35% and grow healthy plants still.

Zeolite
5 tblspoons/gallon of soil. It is there for silicone, and to increase the CEC of the media.

Azomite
2.5 tblspoons/gallon of soil. It provides trace minerals & elements.

Dolomitic Powder
1.5 teaspoons/gallon of soil. I think we all know what this is for. You'll notice I dont use the standard 1tbls or 2tbls/gallon as most. The plants do just fine with this amount, and Ive had no ph issues.

Black Hen Chicken Manure
1 cup/10 gallons of soil. Its a medium strength organic fertilizer that I mix into the soil. Its super cheap. 20lb bags for $6.xx. Its supposed to make for a great manure tea, but I haven't done that yet.

I am also meaning to mix some Alfalfa meal into the soil mixture, but keep forgetting. 1 cup/10gallons of soil is my standard. Its a great organic fertilizer, plus it has plant growth hormone called Triacontanol. It also makes for a great ingredient in an AECT(actively aerated compost tea).

After all the soil and dry amendments are mixed together I prepare a liquid mixture to moisten the soil.

G.O. Diamond Black
1 tblspoon/gallon of water. This liquid humate is to increase the CEC of the soil. Ive noticed when used with synthetic nutrients it really does decrease the amount of nutrients necessary. Its much harder to tell how well it works with organic nutrients though.

Yucca Extract
.5 teaspoon/gallon of water. Yucca Extract is a surfactant that will help the peat moss & aged pine bark to initially absorb water, retain water, and allow for easier rewet-ability if the soil becomes too dried out.

Bio Bizz Alg-a-Mic
2 teaspoon/gallon of water. This helps provide some extra micronutrients to the soil when I do the initial moistening, and of course plant growth hormones.

Fertilizer Solution

Bio-Bizz Bio-Grow 1.8-0.1-6.6

2 tblspoons/gallon of water. This is beyond their recommended dosage, but I have found it is a very mild fertilizer, and using it as directed resulted in slowed growth on my last crop, so I have increased it. I believe there is an older version of Bio-Grow that has much higher N, and P. The new version is weak ass stuff, but it was free, so Im going to use it up.

G.O. Bio-Thrive 4-3-3
2 teaspoons/gallon of water. I am using this as well since it was free, but it also provides the N & P that Bio-Grow is seriously lacking in. I have been experiencing some premature leaf abscission on my plants, so this has been added to the fertilizer solution to help provide some extra nutrients and hopefully prevent it. It could very well be that lack of water is the main culprit for the leaf loss. I will have to keep a closer eye on their moisture levels.

Bio-Bizz Alg-a-Mic
2 teaspoon/gallon of water used once every 7-10 days after initial premoistening of soil media.

G.O Diamond Black
1 tblspoon/gallon of water. This is used at the same times as Alg-A-Mic.

Even at the high rates of usage, Ive still had trouble keeping up with the plants feeding needs. I am trying to do a nearly all organic grow, and learning how much is necessary has been an experience. Feeding with chemical nutrients was always alot easier. I could tell when they've had enough. So far, with these organic nutrients none have experienced nutrient burn except one plant, which had very minor yellow tips on a small amount of leaves.

I also can't forget the containers. I use a product called Root Pouch. They are fabric bags designed to air prune roots much like Smart Pots do. Except they dont cost you an arm and a leg. They are made from recycled denim, and are bio-degradable. The 1 and 3 gallon bags both cost less than $.37 and will last typically 1.5 years. They work excellent, and I have my plants have really dense rootballs. So much so, I can't go more than 2 or 3 days between waterings in the 3 gallon bags. Of course they're a pain in the ass to transplant, but they are so cheap, you might as well just stick the plant and one gallon bag right into the next pot and not even bother removing it until harvest. Should anyone be interested in trying them out, let me know and I will give you the email of my contact that I purchase from.
-------------------------

I think this covers all the information I have to present at this time. Everyone is more than welcome to chime in with their thoughts and questions.

I am so subb'ing your thread. I also got some hashberry and safari from the same company. I'll post some new pics later. I transplanted the other day and just fed them last night.

Those dual core's need a special ballast, right? If not, I'm getting one. And how big is the other ballast? I'm super curios because I'm thinking of getting another light.

Love the pix, Dave!

Beautifully healthy plants!
Thanks, they've all done pretty well so far except that one Satori that I have pics up of. If you had seen it two weeks ago, you'd be ashamed of me haha. She's a real nute hog, and I couldn't keep her belly full, but Ive finally sated her appetite.

Also, thanks for the advice on the males and collecting pollen. I think Ill try to shove as many of them as I can into my other small tent, and use the CFL like you mentioned.

Im confused by 'dual core'. What do you mean exactly? Both my ballasts are 600w digital ballast. The Ushio bulb is their Super HPS bulb with added blue spectrum. I am hoping to do a perpetual sog after finding mothers, so I opted not to use any MH bulbs as veg time will be very short in the future.

Im looking forward to seeing pics of your Hashberry. That was my first choice from Mandala, but Ive read a few reports its more of a daytime mellow smoke, which there's nothing wrong with, but I want something that will put me into the clouds. Im looking for that elusive euphoric high.

Try pulling some strains that you have pairs off at different times: one when trichs are clearn and another amber.

Oh, and dual core bulbs have both the sodium core and the Mercury core, two different light sources within the same bulb.

I think I will take small sample nugs from the plants at various stages of flowering and share them with a buddy, and write down scores for each one so I can help determine which plant is best at which stage, but I will also give each plant a one month cure after the complete chop down and reevaluate them. Ive never heard of dual cores, is that the same as dual spectrum bulbs?

Looks like a great grow - I subscribed. Here are a couple pictured of my Jack the Rippers getting pretty close to harvest.

Posted links so you don't have pictures of other plants in your thread. You wont regret growing this strain, beautiful lemony scent :)

Your ladies look great & thanks for subscribing. I do hope mine come out looking as lovely as yours. I love a lemon scent. I hope I get something like that from them. How long are yours going to end up going for?

Good luck!
Very nice setup. You have some exotic strains growing. Is it hard keeping up with so many different strains? Sub'd!!
Thanks for dropping in. Its definitely a bit hard to keep track of them, and it'll be even harder for when I do some breeding and crossing, but Ill get through somehow.

After looking at those pictures I took yesterday, I realized that my plants have grown a shit load in the last two weeks. I have never used the Root Pouches from 1 gallon bags to the 3 gallon ones before, and well Im amazed at how effective they are and the resulting increased growth. When I first transplanted from the 1 gallon grow bags to the 3 gallon ones the plants were 8-12 inches tall, with the skunk haze's being the tallest of course, and two weeks later all of the plants have more than doubled in height. New nodal growth has also been doubled on all the plants and a bit more for some of the more vigorous plants. Having an extremely dense rootball that occupies the spaces where most of the water and nutrients are is a hell of a boon. Before when I used plastic pots, all the roots just circled the pots, and well there's usually not much water or nutrients out there for them. My Nirvana WW from my first two grows grew at a rate of 2-3 inches per week, while these guys are putting on anywhere from 5-10 inches easy each week. Of course Ive also upgraded lighting, and I think my soil is better this time around, but the bags are no doubt contributing. Even my buddy noticed the fast growth when I was moving plants around in the tent and sexing them. This would explain why Ive had such a hard time keeping them fed. They just wont slow down! I gave all the plants 48-64 ounces of water last night, and today some of the pots are already beginning to get light again!

I currently have a problem with Fungus Gnats. Neem Oil & sticky traps so far have failed me, so I am treating the plants with Mosquito Dunks. Bacillus thuringiensis is the main ingredient, and is supposed to work very well against gnats. I am allowing two dunks to dissolve in 6 gallons of water, then tomorrow I will dunk all the plants into the water to thoroughly drench them. Hopefully a couple of applications will eliminate those little fuckers. My poor runt is infested with them fuckers. I dont know if they are the cause as he's been a runt his whole life, and the gnats have only recently gotten pretty bad.

I think the only sad thing in this grow thus far is that my Satori are just lazy bitches. The purple bagseeds were started two weeks later than them, and the Purps have already caught up and exceeded in nodal growth and are 2 inches shorter on average, although I do have a couple of more vigorous Satori, but they can only match the vigor of the Purps.

Tomorrow, I hope to get pictures of each plant to go with the detailed list of the plants heights & their sexes. For now though, here are some pics.

Picture 1: The four Purps. Two males on the right, two females on the left.

Picture 2: A group shot. The haze monster in the middle is 33.5 inches in height when straightened out. The colas just want to go horizontal to all corners of the room. I do believe it will need some supports come later in flowering if its a girl.

Picture 3: Another haze that too likes to go against the norm, and do its own thing.

Picture 4: A trifoliate Chunky Cinderella. You can easily make it out on the bottom cola. I believe one Chunky female became trifoliate on all four of her colas after topping. Im not sure if this is that one or not. Even though trifoliate plants are supposed to be rare, at least 5 plants in the tent are this way, with one being Satori being super crazy. Normal on one cola, trifoliate on two more, and quadfoliate on the last.

Picture 5: I think this is a Satori that is beginning to become purple along its stems. Hopefully it will extend to the leaves and buds to give us something beautiful to look at.

Picture 6: Closeup of a Hazes fan leaf.

Picture 7: I think is a close up of a cola of one of the Chunky Cinderellas. One of them has begun to spit out eleven bladed leaves. Hopefully, I will get some large closeup pics of them for you all.

Thats all for now.

Thanks Firefox for being a piece of shit and crashing when I am trying to upload pics. Your awesome.

Anyways. I checked on the Early Durbans, and most of them got some nutrient burn on the first set of leaves. It was a little too early to put them into the soil. Chicken Manure breaks down real fast, and the plants weren't as advanced as the last set I transplanted into the same soil. Ill have to remember this when I start using clones someday.

The ED's also got a drench of Mosquito dunk water. I hope it'll take care of them damned gnats. Tomorrow, the larger plants are all getting a bath in the stuff as well.

Heres some pics I was able to grab while I was there. Ill try to get more pics of as soon as I can.

Pic 1:This is a Chunky Cinderella with her big eleven bladed leaves.
Pic 2: The Chunky Cinderellas easily have the largest leaves with the Satori coming next biggest.
Pic 3: Another Chunky Cinderella with big beautiful leaves.
Pic 4: One of my Haze x Skunks got a touch of clawing, so Ive learned where the plants tolerance levels are now. The clawing only happened on the Hazes, while only a couple of DC & Satori showed slight yellowing of the tips. They'll get water tomorrow, and maybe once more afterwards before resuming nutes.
Pic 5: A trifoliate Satori. She's always been a paler green than the rest. She's also the slowest grower in the tent. Maybe its genetic, or perhaps she needs more food. Hopefully after the big feeding yesterday, she'll get some more green into her.
Pic 6 & 7: Another Haze x Skunk(female). She only has 3 tops as well, but all growing equally strong.
Pic 8 & 9: My JTR male. He's a real beaut.

Looking at the structure at the growing tips, those things must be growing a couple inches a day.

Wonderful vigor!

Very happy plants.

I've heard you can take care of fungus gnats two ways: raising the temp & lowering hunidity AND/OR Use a high grade neem oil, like einsteins, when you water. It's supposed to help the plants fight em off systemicly.

I used Dyna-Grow 100% Pure Pressed Neem Oil, and even that didnt work. Im hoping the dunks do a much better job.
