Violator Kush & White Rhino

OPEN FOR ALL TO COMMENT

It is good to be back on RIU. Thought I would start things off right with a new grow journal featuring some Feminized Violator Kush Seed and Standard White Rhino in two seperate grow rooms. Much has changed for me in my grow area and methods of grow over the past few months, all with great positive results.

I plan on this journal being as detailed as possible in order to learn as much from it as I can from my peers and myself.
After a little over a year and a half I think I can say I am getting somewhat of a very small idea of what I should be doing, and more importantly, shouldn't.

With that said, I am still completely green :leaf: but here are a couple pics from one of my last grows to lure you in. ;)

Nutes Nutes Nutes

I wanted to start off with nutrients because I found this to be the most challenging part of my hydroponic grows for a very long time. I know a lot of people can get outstanding yields with very simple fertilizer setups, but I unfortunately am not one of those people and I can't help myself when it comes to constantly trying to improve upon something! :blsmoke: Anyways...

Poop Soup Method

I decided to document the method that I use for hydroponic nutrient application. This is called mixing the poop soup, and any high times reader will be familiar with it.

I am very much afraid of nutrient lockout, and have always been very careful to mix nutrients one at a time, same rule applies for this method. The difference with poop soup and regular reservoir feeding is that you are making a highly concentrated dosage of nutrient mix in a little over half a gallon of water. You then add this mix to your reservoir as a whole until you reach your desired PPM. This makes achieving and maintaining that specific PPM level much easier.

Sounds great and all, but I never knew the right combination of nutrients for the poop soup. I still wouldn't, but a high times article regarding hydroponic gardening gave a great Botanicare Pro Poop Soup Formula, and that just so happens to be what I use! :)

This formula has been modified from 2 stages to 3 to allow for both blends of Botanicare's Pro Bloom Nutrient Mix, as well as the additional supplement Hydroplex.

I also plan to add a beneficial bacteria mix for the roots into this mixture later on, but I am not sure which yet.
Looking at Great White, any thoughts?

Here are the formulas, weeks are not rock solid, adjust to fit your strain:

Botanicare Products Used:

  • Pro Grow Veg Formula
  • Pro Bloom Hydro Formula
  • Pro Bloom Soil Formula
  • Liquid Karma
  • Sweet
  • Cal-Mag
  • Hydroplex

http://www.americanagritech.com

EACH POOP SOUP MIX STARTS WITH 1/2 GALLON OF REVERSE OSMOSIS WATER.

MIX EACH NUTRIENT THOROUGHLY TO THE WATER BEFORE ADDING THE NEXT NUTE.

AT END, TOP OFF SOUP WITH WATER SO MIX EQUALS OUT TO GALLON.

SHAKE SOUP WELL BEFORE EACH USE.

ADD MIX TO YOUR RESERVOIR UNTIL YOU ACHIEVE DESIRED PPMS BASED ON STRAIN. (ADJUST PH ACCORDINGLY)

Vegetative Poop Soup (From Veg to first sign of flowers)

  • 550ml Pure Blend Pro Vegetative Formula
  • 250ml Cal-Mag
  • 250ml Liquid Karma
  • 150ml Sweet

Flowering Stage 1 Poop Soup (Roughly: 1st-4th Week of Flowering)

  • 550ml Pure Blend Pro Bloom Hydro Formula
  • 250ml Cal-Mag
  • 125ml Hydroplex
  • 300ml Liquid Karma
  • 200ml Sweet

Flowering Stage 2 Poop Soup (Roughly: 5th-7th Week of Flowering)

  • 550ml Pure Blend Pro Bloom Soil Formula
  • 250ml Cal-Mag
  • 250ml Hydroplex
  • 350ml Liquid Karma
  • 250ml Sweet

(flush at week 8 and 9 with desired method if you like....or not..)

This is the formula and method I have been using and it has produced great results with minimal stress on the plants, and myself! Reduced overall feeding time as well. Thank god for high times. :)

Nice looking, bro. Especially that last pick, I wanna bite it...

CK
Funny you should say that, because my dog got a hold of one of my bigger buds and did just that. (not sure if it was that specific one in pic) She is a connoisseur of pot leaves as well. She likes the greens! Thanks a lot for stopping by CK, big compliment. :bigjoint:

Looking forward to the show!
Thanks spicoli! Ill try to have a pepperoni pizza for you here next time. ;)

Grow Room Setup

The plant pro in the center is great for disabling fans during co2 operation, light timer, pump timer, and fan operation.
Gives temp, humidity, and has ability to also give co2 level(i do not have co2 sensor attachment)

Lighting

  • 400watt MH - Veg Room
  • 600watt HPS - Flower Room (pic)
100_0341.jpg 100_0344.jpg

Atmosphere

White Rhino Room:

  • 4" CAN Fan Intake
  • 4" HO CAN Fan Exhaust
    • Via Lamp Shade
    • CAN Filter
Violator Kush Room

  • 4" CAN Fan Intake

  • 6" Vortex Fan Exhaust
    • CAN Filter
  • 6" HO CAN Fan Exhaust
    • Via Lamp Shade
    • Takes air from outside of grow room

This room setup allows me to continually cool the light while turning off the exhaust in the ceiling in order to use CO2.

CO2:
20lb CO2 Tank
1 min Duration every 30 mins.
Exhaust system disabled for 15 min durations.

AC:
Royal Sovereign ARP-1000ES Portable AC
My review can be found here

Backup Power

Smart UPS 1000 XL:
I use this to supply power to the pumps and a exhaust fans. Has a runtime a little below ten minutes with the current load, great for small power outages.

I also have temperature monitors on the light power outlets so if temp somehow does soar, lights are killed.

The Short Bus

Well, I had started with three White Rhino seeds that I had left over, and things aren't looking too good for them. Might have to sign them up for the short bus Im thinking. One sprouted quickly, but only had half a leaf and died today. The other two both cracked, but they seem content to stay in the rockwool. I can't get frusterated, the seeds were rather immature and nearly two years old, but here's to patience and optimism. :)

Well, I will give the other two seeds a few more days I suppose. Should be getting my other seeds in the mail any day, actually tomorrow is what I am betting on. The title of this thread might end up being misleading if I have to replace the WR strain. :blsmoke:

Here is pic of the failed sprout, sad lil feller'

Nice, yes thats what motivated me to make the mount board. I work in I.T. and am used to making something like that every once in awhile anyways, so thought I would apply it to my grow op. Honestly its still not where i want it to be, will be redoing it some more...when...i duno. :P

Glad you on board bro.

Seeds

Wow ok so it has been awhile since I posted in my journal...quite a few things have happened I want to catch up on to keep track, etc..so to start...the seeds...

These babies came in a day after I thought they would on a nice Saturday morning. :)

Seedbank - Attitude (first time using them)

Feminized Packs:
5 x Big Buddha CHIESEL
5 x Delicious Seeds BLACK RUSSIAN
5 x Barney's Farm VIOLATOR KUSH

Freebies:
1 x Dinafem Seeds DIESEL ~Feminized~
1 x Greenhouse Seeds CHEESE ~Feminized~ (yay!)
1 x Greenhouse Seeds TRAINWRECK ~Feminized~ (yay again!)
1 x Dinafem Seeds BLUEFRUIT

Cool T-Shirt that actually fits, sweet.

What to grow first?

After my remaining immature White Rhino Seeds died, I had to choose a new strain to replace them to grow along with the Violator Kush. I want to grow two strains, one in each grow room, consistently female...more on all that later.

Well, this time around when I bought seeds I had a lot more education than when I did my very first purchase nearly two years ago. I bought all Feminized seeds since I have a limited grow space, and I find the money, time, and light spent going into raising plants that turn out to be males is equivalent to the extra cost of a feminized pack of seeds....I don't believe this to be true for all, but for me it seems that way.

Here are the final lucky winners this go around:

1 x ~Fem Black Russian - Left

Delicious Seeds Black Russian is a stable indica/sativa hybrid between White Russian and Black Domina cannabis strains from the Delicious Seed. Feminized seeds of this variety became popular in the international market almost instantly. They are easy growing and said to be great for cloning. Potentials of this strain are constantly used in breeding experiments to create new varieties. Plants of this marijuana have a sweet fruity scent so popular in Dutch coffee shops. 80% indica, this cannabis is said to have a great medical value and is used as a relaxant, effective for anxiety, pain, nausea, appetite stimulation, sleep, muscle spasms and tremors.
Being mostly indica, feminized seeds of Black Russian produce slightly bushy marijuana plants with dark green fat leaves around a thin and sturdy stem. The leave to bud ratio is so well balanced that her buds have enough space and light to fully develop. These cannabis seeds performs well indoors and outdoors, in pots, soil or hydroponics setups. Flowering period for the plants growing indoors is 7-8 weeks, whilst outdoor it's from middle of September. Wherever you decide to place Black Russian, she produces a great indica yield - 450 gr. per m2 indoors; the amount from outside varieties depends on a vegetation time and a season and can reach 500 gr. per plant. It is one of the most consistently performing marijuana strains in the world, she remains as short as about 60-70 cm in your indoor marijuana gardens, and won't grow taller than 150 cm in your outdoor ones. She is vigorous, disease resistant, and potent. This strain develops big resinous buds, with resin extending almost to the end of the large fan leaves. The more heavily branched specimens tend to be the big yielder.

So untypical for indicas, Black Russian contains incredible 20+% of THC in flowers which means a cerebral type of high, ideal for total body and mind relax and pain relief. Together with an exotic candy flavoured smell and taste and a peppery hash, she is definitely one of our favourite.

-Attitude Seed Bank

1 x ~Fem Violator Kush - Right

Barneys Farm Violator Kush Feminized is a mostly indica cross of a Hindy Kush and Malana, originated in the Malana Nala, a side valley of the Parvati Region. Violator Kush is characterized by heavy crops of quality marijuana with a very high THC content.
Domination of indica genes make feminized seeds of Violator Kush cope well with mild stress and some diseases. Her cannabis seeds have a good rate of germination of at least 80%. Fully developed plants are short (app. 70-80 cm) and bushy with large green leaves. They produce buds of such a density that tying or staking is necessary. Violater Kush plants look like touched by the first frost, totally covered with white shiny hair and with glittering pearls of sticky buds full of trichomes. THC content is said to be as high as 22%.

Flowering period of this cannabis variety is 8-9 weeks which is typical for any indica dominated strains. Already at the beginning of flowering, Violator Kush develops an earthy, musty smell and flavour which becomes more intense during maturing. This strain is suitable for indoor and outdoor cultivation. Outside harvest starts at the end of September in Northern Hemisphere. Being a great yielder, Violater Kush produces about 150 gr. per m2 when grown indoors and the same amount per outside plant. The final product of this marijuana contains 1.5 % of CBD and produce a comfy couch-lock stoned effect

- Attitude Seed Bank

Why did I buy these strains? - I love Indica weed, fucking love it very much. I tend to read and hear from people that they like Sativa more, but with my stomach woes, I can't get enough of the Indica. The only time in life that I feel absolutely like a normal person with zero pain in my stomach is when Im smoking some good high quality Indica..and that is RARE unfortunately. I live in an area where the weed is usually sativa and that is fine with me, one can not complain or be too choosey on the black market of course, :-P but it does not ever prove nearly as effective as Indica weed.

Aside from Indica, I also chose strains based upon their height, overall bud production, consistent and healthy indoor plant strain, and THC Content..as well as ignoring the old "Ooo I have always wanted to try that one" thought hinting at me in the back of my brain. "ssshhhhh! it grows too tall dammit!" ...oh and of course a reasonable price...

The Big Bhudda CHIESEL will have to wait until summer I suppose. :bigjoint:

CFLS..no seriously!...CFLS :)

2 x 105 watt 5000 Kelvin Full Spectrum CFLs

- Each of these lights are cooled by 6" Air King Fans that hang on individual small chains. They have been setup for the first couple weeks of growth only...this is 400 watt MH room...that light is off for now..got me thinking...why not always start my seeds this way and save on a lil electricity? so yeah..put some hooks in there and made support chain for the lights which is all easily removable for when I switch back over to the Metal Halide for the later stage of growth with the Black Russian. (still got my exhaust and intake fans going for that room)

I put in CFLs because it was warm, then cold, then war, then cold here, and the seeds I planted cracked, began to grow but then stopped as soon as it got cold again...no breaking the surface...just small tap root and seed under rockwool surface. This lasted for 5 days until my best guess was that it got too cold again. I already had these CFLs, so I hung them really close to the surface and sure enough I started getting activity again within a couple days! So the VK has sprouted but the Black Russian has kinda gone odd on me...we will see what happens.

Black Russian Twisted Root (cant penetrate? is it too big?):

;)

Softened the rockwool below the sprout. I sat her up with the seed on top now, looks like an albino coiled Cobra ;) I then went ahead and placed a nice light layer of rockwool over the top, here is good wishes for her...i find rough starters tend to kick ass if they make it at least!

Vk on other hand is looking great! Ill watch closely for spindly growth, but its two days old here and only half inch tall so I think I have the light just close enough right now.

Ahh then over in the corner..i had some room near my intake fan...and I had this one loan White Widow seed left from my first order of seeds...and i had some extra soil..and another CFL, so figured WTH, we will see what comes of it..I have no idea where it will go..maybe I will make it flower way early and grow a mini plant on the side :P

Im using my Pet Safe boundary flags from my wireless dog collar system as markers..manually writing names of strains on back, hehe...i hated using that dog collar but she would hop my wall every morning (and all other times she had a chance) and go see the small kids at the bus stop until the bus nearly ran her over...i couldnt have her getting hit by a car or bus no matter how much of a weirdo she is..fortunately she only needed the collar for a few days before she got the point... on the lowest setting which was like shocking yourself really bad on an old school TV Set. (tested on myself first, and she is a total wuss)...pound pups :)

Haha, wth kind of rant was that, I think that is it for this post, will update on my new Black Russian Cobra Snake and if that White Widow pops up soon. </rant>
