first time growing Aurora Indica feminized seeds from Nirvana

Hello all, i just started my 3rd grow indoors (my first with Aurora Indica feminized seeds from Nirvana). Im using a HTGSupply Ultimate 400w HPS & MH Grow Light system with Sunrise Hi-Low Reflector Hangers. I also have a 10 gallon Homemade Rubbermaid tote drip system with 2 6 inch net pots, and an air pump with a large air rock.
My grow room is in my bathroom and i took out the old bathroom vent fan and installed a newer more powerful one. The old one was pulling only 50 cfm and the new one pulls almost 100cfm and it's quieter too. Sometime in the future i would like to put in a can fan with carbon filter, but im tight on funds right now. lol Who's not!
I been using only Fox Farm's nutrients Grow Big, Tiger Bloom, and Big Bloom, but this time im also going to try Humboldt County Bushmaster, Gravity, and Snowstorm Ultra, along with the Fox Farm. Any input on the Humboldt nutrients will be appreciated!
My two seedlings are just over two weeks old and they are off to a great start! One has two sets of tru leaves already and about 4 inches tall. The other not far behind the first! I'll post more later that's all I can think of for now.
I still consider my self a rookie grower so please any advice would be greatly appreciated. ty and grow safe!

Here are a few pics so you can get an idea of what I'm working with. The two plants in the tote are Aurora Indica feminized from Nirvana seeds. They are just over 2 1/2 weeks old. I'm still running my nutes at half strength until after 3 weeks when I will be putting it at full strength. My 400 watt MH conversion lamp is a about 25'' away from the tops of my baby girls, so they don't get to hot and burn. This will be my first time using MH and HPS lights and It is also the first time buying seeds instead of picking them out of a bag. So I'm very optimistic about this grow! In the photos you will also see two cans of veggies on top of my reflector ( no I'm not heating it up for dinner LOL). I'm using sunrise high/low reflector hangers and because I have a remote ballast and a light weight reflector the reflector is too light to use the hangers properly. With the added weight of the two cans of veggies on top of my reflector, the hangers work great. I can move my reflector up and down very easily with only one hand if i wanted to.

Here is two pics of the root system of Aurora Indica at ten days old! Nutes at 1/2 strength, and the plant its self is two times bigger than plants of the same strain started on the same day. Gotta love hydro! :bigjoint:

Sweet, I'm just finishing up an Aurora grow. I was doing soil and cfl's but you got me sold on your system, reps to you, I'll be following this one.

Its now been three weeks and I just finished doing a reservoir/water change. I added full strength Fox Farm Grow Big nutes according to there feeding schedule.
This is my first time using MH & HPS lights. I've used only full spectrum, and CFL lights before, so I'm still learning exactly how far I should keep the light away from young plants. I been keeping the light about 25 inches away from the tops of my plants, but I'm starting to think that might be too close. I have enclosed some pics of some brown spots on the leaves. I think they are due to the 400 watt MH possibly being to close, so I raised it to about 28 inches away. Hope that works!
All in all so far I'm very pleased on how nice they look! Its hard to believe when you look at them that they are only three weeks old. They also appear to be a lot bushier than the bag seeds I've planted in the past. I don't know if this is because of the MH light or because of the seeds, but if I had to guess I would say the seeds! Normally I would start to top/fim my plants at about the 4th or 5th node but I'm planing on just budding them out this time.

The morning after I changed the water in my reservoir, and added full strength Fox Farm Grow Big nutes I noticed some of the roots had turned a little brown. (pics below...first one was before adding the nutes, the others are the day after.) At first I thought that I might have over fed them, and they were starting to burn. But I thought that was unlikely, because I was very precise when I was measuring out the nutes, and I mixed them a little weaker than the recommended dose. I mixed the nutes according to the Fox Farm feeding schedule week 3.

I was worried to say the least , so I took some pics and posted a help me thread right here on RIU. It didn't take long to get plenty of help with lots of advice and tips! Thank you all! With all the advice, and tips I got I decided just to add a little more H202, and to just wait and keep a close eye on the plants, making sure the browning of the roots didn't get any worse and that I didn't see any burning of the leaves. Which I didn't!
A few days later and no signs of burn, the roots got a little less brown.

So I concluded that the roots had turned a little brown due to discoloration, from using the Fox Farm nutes. My plants are now just two days away from being 4 weeks old, and they are looking great. On week 4 I will be adding more nutes according to the Fox Farm feeding schedule, but I will be mixing them just a little weaker.

I also thought that there might be too much light seeping through the tote, so I ordered some black & white poly 6 mil to cover the top and sides of the tote. Hopefully It will keep light and heat out of the tote, preventing any algae, or bacteria growth in side.

On Wednesday they will be 4 weeks old and I will add more pics then. I am also taking one pic per week and making a Aurora Indica seed to harvest slide show! That should be bad ass when its done. LOL I got the first three weeks done already and it looks awesome so far, I cant wait till its done! Until next time Grow Safe!;-)

The bigger better looking plant looks like shit now! Droopy as hell, the top foliage looks a little yellow, and the roots on that one plant look a little more brown too. Its weird though the other plant in the same tote looks great! Most of the roots look white, and its standing tall and perky. I have a feeling If I don't fix this problem right away both will die, and I'll have to start over.:wall:

I will do a water change and add only h2ho to the water today. And maybe even change it every two days and see if that will help. I will also be placing order tonight for 6 mil black & whits poly. I plant to wrap my tote in it to keep out light and heat( this may be the cause of the problem). Hope this works! Wish me luck;-)

Well the plant in the back is pretty much dead! I'm going to pull it later it looks real bad, the other in the same tote looks good though. The bad looking one had brown slimy shit on the roots and I want to remove the whole plant before it spreads to the other. Is there a way I can remove a plant from the tote and put it into a soil less mix? The only way I can see doing it is to transplant the entire net pot. I want to do this so I can cut two clones form it and plant them back into the tote. That's my plan for now anyway. I'll keep you all posted! I also planted one Aurora Indica seed in Black Gold soil-less mix ( I plan on making her a mother). And I planted 5 Papaya seeds, but I only got one to germinate, If it takes I'll start another Papaya journal. I will also be making The Papaya seedling a mother as well.

:leaf:Ok I don't know if I did the right thing or not, but here goes! The one plant that looked really droopy got worse. The bottom leaves turned yellow, with brown spots. When I looked at the roots they were brown and slimy, and I knew I had to do something. So I pulled the net pod up out of the reservoir, and carefully poured out all of the clay pellets. When I was doing this I realized It was for sure now some kind of root rot. I washed out the roots with h202 water mix, and removed as much of the brown rot that would wash off easily. I then proceeded to plant this hurting plant, in Black Gold organic potting soil (my fav). I watered it well and put it under 2 26 watt CFL's. Its now sink or swim for that one, I did what I can! LOL:bigjoint:

Now for the other plant! I did place order last night for the black & white Poly. I want to use it to cover the top and sides of the tote, to help keep light and heat out. So I figured I would be better off to plant that plant in Black Gold as well. So I did. Luckily the root system on this plant was still small, and it came right out of the net pot with out any problem. Also most of the roots were still a nice white color, and this plant looks nice and healthy. I still washed it out just like I did the other plant, with h202ed water mix, that hopefully killed all the bad shit. Then I planted it, watered it well, and and I put this one back under the 400 watt MH light. I now plan to make this one my mother plant! When she is ready I will take a few clones form her and put two of them in the tote ( which by this time will be cover with poly, and ready to go). And then I'll start at the beginning again!

I'll update you all in a day or two with pics! I've taking so many to post here already, my batteries died! LOL:leaf:
