OK - new day. Took a few pictures of the babies. They're under 24/7 LED, and seem to be doing allright. Not too much stretching, and I can tell they're growing from day to day.
The way I have set it up, I have to go into the room every evening, and close the 24/7 light section, from the 12/12 section, as they are in the same room, and I have it masked off to almost 100% light proof. The 'bloomers' are stretching and looking fine also. I know the red color from the LED is a pain in the ass, but when you use it, you get used to it - I almost don't notice anymore, but I can see the pictures are really red. For that reason I use CFL to make it more agreeable to the eye - but as one can see, the LED overwhelms the CFL I mention that, for those who still think LED is not bright. The newer LEDs are bright as all hell. When I go turn on my grow-room in the morning, I keep my eyes shut. I don't think LEDs are better than HPS, or CFL for that matter - they're different, and fit different uses. This thread is for good ideas - or results, on the subject. I know you're out there. |

Hello again. Somebody is still cruising by this thread. Hopefully it'll inspire.
I had read a shit-load of Redmans bubbleponics, and had begin thinking of it, and today I gave it a whirl, just to see if I can get the principals right. Seems to work OK. Bubbles really good, and flows fine. Maybe dirt and clay pots are an unusual combination, but that's what I had at the time.. I'll figure a way to let the roots out - like crack the pot a little. Had some comments about the light in the pictures, so I used a fairly powerful flash in some pictures, but you can easily see the LED light also - which tells me, the light is pretty strong. Anyway, just doing some 'shootin' from the hip' growing, using LED in the process, to see if it can be done. And then, can it be done for regular people, without a ton of equipment and all sorts of knowledge? I'd say yes. If you can grow anything, you can grow pot. This thread is to gather ideas of how to grow with LED, and in the meantime I post my own attempt . Are there almost no successful LED grows??? So far people seem divided. I think it's working good. I have three UFOs - that's all. Below are todays pictures. |

After trying out a makeshift bubbleponics-system for two days, I was convinced it needed to be investigated further, so I acquired a larger water reservoir, plumbing parts, hoses and pumps. I noticed in Redmans exceptionally thorough tutorial on the subject, that dividing the waterflow into each separate pot, can be tricky - so I invented a new system.
Instead of using a waterpump I use the airpump to lift the water, thus eliminating one part. I have to add that although I eliminated the waterpump, I had to add another airpump to make the system flow properly. It gargles and gurgles a lot, but seems to work A-OK. I also use a waterheater so I can keep the water in the 70s. If the pictures doesn't explain my set-up well enough, I'm happy to answer any questions. - the page will not let me attach pictures - let me try again. |

Wow - I'm so glad I read up on bubbleponics by Redman. Although it took forever to read, one must agree it was thorough. Also, the good spirit with which it is done, comes through.
Back to my own thread. Maybe I should have named it 'mini-grow on a shoestring', or 'innovative mini space grow' or something more catchy than 'LED grow' - led is new to me, so I thought it would be interesting. First time I turned one of those 90w ufos on, I knew this would work. Compared to those miserable little 225 led/30watts panels, this was bright! I have three of them - the ufos, and I might want one or two more, for my 6 square foot growing space . It just makes it much easier and cleaner than tons of wires, plugs, extensions, reflectors and other shit for all those CFLs. I use those also - but by the time you have rigged it, you go - well - I could have done the same with a 90w ufo - with only one wire. So the light is a little unusual - to your eyes, but to my own surprise, I quickly adapted. Now, I can hardly tell the light in the growroom is red anymore. And it doesn't look green in the house, after you've been under the led-light for awhile, either. The brain compensates for it, to some degree - another good trick is to blend in some CFL light - it makes it more agreeable to the eye, and the plants like it also. |

Hi KenWood. Yeah - I couldn't figure if beeker74 was just so friggin' impressed that he had to call on higher powers, or that he mistakingly thought this was a religious thread.
Besides I looked up his threads, and I can't tell if he's for or against LED. I wonder if he knows. One moment he seems to think it's the worst ever, next thing he's growing with it. Anyways, my babies are doing just fine - looking better every day - and my bubbleponics setup is gurgeling along just fine, and the clones I stuck in there seem to be OK also. More pictures later. Happy growing. |

Everything is running smooth. Temperatures and humidity are OK. Plants are stretching and filling out after having been under 12/12 light for 19 days. Since I don't know what I'm growing, I don't know what to expect - as this grow is a test run.
The bubbleponics is gurgeling along just fine, and the 5 clones I put in there are hanging on, although there hasn't been too much growth yet. The small plants are 19 days since seed. Just took these pics. Last edited by highaltitude; 11-22-2009 at 09:48 AM.. |
