so, finally, my second grow is under way... a week after i've finished off all my last harvest (an ounce in the end from two plants... lots of room for improvement)

for this grow i've selected two strains that come strongly recommended: raft and DGHaze
i'm excited for them both, as my first seeds were just some mexican sativa bagseed...

i've decided to grow out four of each strain, in a medium of Kellog's Organic Garden soil and perlite
i'll be using superthrive, and some organic ferts i'll choose later on, and finally molasses too during flower
vegging will be done under flourescent tubes (2 cool white 40w t12's, and 2 warm white ones) and flowering under a soon to be acquired 400w hps
i'm looking to find one decent mother from each strain

so today, i went out to home depot to buy the soil, perlite, and superthrive


when i got home, made a 50/50 mix of the perlite and soil (i want lots of air and room for the young seedlings roots to grow easily... i'll be changing the ratio later on...)




then, filled each of my small pots, poked a hole 1 centimeter deep in each, dropped a seed into the middle (which had previously been in winter mode in the fridge, then brought out and soaked in a water and superthrive juice), slightly covered them, then lighly watered with the mix they were sitting in (i'll be misitng the soil to keep it moist for the first few days...)
then put them on the top shelf, along with my 1L Hydro comp. entry... and have one cool and one warm floro goin over them (mostly for the hydro plant)

so, 3 outa 4 DGH have broke the surface, one still hanging out

same with the raft, except the seed shells aren't coming off of 'em... i'll give them another day or two before i remove it myself...

so far, i have 6 plants coming out of the soil... picks when all are showing leaves... woohoo!

so finally an update

i've lost a raft, the soil dried out, but i replaced the bean and it popped up three days later, woo! and yeah, one of the seedlings that was having a hard time getting its shell off ended up a bit deformed, but i think it'll be fine once it's second set of true leaves come in... i've also had the trouble of two or three dghaze seedlings drying out on me too... i don't have the best of conditions for these things... the room can get up to 89 degrees for a good while... ugh... but mostly they're surviving, quite well too... all beans i've planted have popped, even though a couple of the dgh looked a little immature when i've planted them... but i dunno, i can't be too mad with 100 % germ rate (too bad i had to kill a few seedlings along the way... oh well, improvements must and will be made when i can do so)

i have three dghaze seedlings right now... it would have been four but a couple days ago one dried out on me.. boo... but i'm sure the new bean will show itself any day now... thats about it for plant news

but, i am happy to say that a friend has hooked me up with a spare 400 hps ballast and cords and lamp to flower with for this grow (i might even use it in veg just to speed things up a bit to get things started... i dunno yet...) all i need to do is buy the mogul socket for the lamp from home depot to get it working, but then i'll wait until i make one of the "Bake-a-Round" DIY cooltubes before i use it... i'm having too many problems with heat as it is... but hopefully by the end of the month i'll have that up and runing and have my flower room built...

here are the pics, first, the raft
you can see the deformed one in the third pick, with the stark white leaves... i think they're just lacking chlorophyll, so i'm not too concerned... and the first true leaves are growing but doing a gnarly curl under... i'm sure it will correct itselft



and here are the dghaze that have popped... one was a replaced bean that just came up yesterday... i love seeing the spurts of growth...

how long your beans been in soil lj..i cant remember...whats up with the bark is that part of the soil mix....had another question...o yea tried that other site dont think its the right one though..pm me the correct info por favor
