I have two plants from seeds of the same bagseed schwag. From what I've been told, the seeds were from sativas grown near Ghuangzhou, China, before they made their way North to me. I had a past plant (failed grow) from the same schwag, and was an interesting looking plant from the beginning. So, this should be an fun grow.
I am going to veg them for four weeks, and watch the pros and cons of the two light settings, so we can all learn a bit. They both sprouted on the 10th. It's only been a week, but I've already had lots of questions answered. But I've also got a lot more questions just from watching. I have each of them in a separate closet. Plant 1 is under 24/0 light. 195W of CFLs. Plant 2 is under 16/8 light, 175W of CFLs. I took the first measurements on the 11th. Plant 1 was 1.5cm tall. Plant 2 was 2cm tall. This is a minor difference and is most likely due to general plant genetics. I took the second measurements two days later on the 13th. Plant 1 was 2.5 cm tall. A one centimeter increase. Plant 2 was 3.5 cm tall. A one and a half centimeter increase. Still genetics, or could the lighting be showing the difference this early? I took the third measurements today, the 17th. four days after the last measuring. Plant 1 is 3.5cm tall. One more centimeter after four days. Plant 2 is 4.5cm tall. One centimeter as well. But there's more too it than just the heights. I took some notes about the plants today. -The stem of plant 1 is very dark purple. -The stem of plant 2 is also fairly purple. Maybe this is a genetic thing for the plant? -The leaves of plant 1 are very thin. Not even a 100% sativa should have them like that. They're kinda short too. -The leaves of plant 2 are thick, but only in comparison to plant 1. They are also much darker green, and longer. -The nodes of plant 1 are close together. Two real sets have formed, and a third is on its way. -The nodes of plant 2 are close, but not so much as plant 1. Two sets of nodes have formed, and a third is on its way. Here's a picture of the plants. You can see the difference as well.

All the schwag I've been getting so far has been the same stuff, so while the seeds might be from different mothers, I'm still confident they're from the same land race. I love these little plants. Even though I'm growing them to test veg light cycles, I'm planning on taking notes and pictures the entire way through veg and flowering. I hope that at least one is female. I really want to see what they look like when they're ready to harvest. Maybe if they're good enough I can try to sell them to a seed bank. Heh heh. Picture Time! As you can see, plant 1 is still has much thinner leaves. They have widened a bit, and they're longer now. I really hope that the purple stem stays. It looks really cool. Plant 2 is still taller and, in my opinion, healthier looking. I hope that I didn't get a weird mutant with plant 1. That would kinds throw off some of the results. Oh well. It's still a fun grow.

Update time!
I transplanted them into new pots yesterday. The pots are 17.5cm wide and 13.5cm deep. I measured again today, and here's what I got. Plant 1 is now 4cm tall. Plant 2 is now 5.75cm tall. When this first started, plant 2 was only half a centimeter taller, but it's increasing the gap daily. You can see in the pictures that the stem on plant 1 is still very dark. It's still noticeable on plant 2, but not nearly so well defined. It's also worth noting that branches are beginning to form on both plants, but they started to form on plant 1 first. I should have said this earlier, but feel free to talk in this thread, and if there's anything you think I should look for additionally, do mention it. I want to cover as many bases as possible. I think the pictures got shuffled around, but it's easy to tell which plant is which.

Alas, I am beginning to suspect that despite being from the same schwag, I may actually be growing different strains. Or at least two of the same strain with different phenotypes. I don't think the light cycle could be effecting it THIS much.
Plant 1 (24/0) is now 5.5cm tall. Yay! Plant 2 (16/8) is now 7cm tall. Hoorah! Things about plant 1: 1. The purple stem that I was so happy with is beginning to fade. As the stem thickens, the outer purple skin is beginning to dry and harden. I can see the green skin underneath. It will be nice while it lasts, at least. 2. This is one dense plant. It has three fully developed sets of leaves, and a fourth is very close. Each set so far is less than 1 cm away from each other. 3. Branches are already forming! I've only grown autoflowering strains so far, but branches in less than two weeks seems pretty good to me. 4. The picture doesn't show it well enough, but the leaves are very long and extraordinarily jagged. Things about plant 2: 1. Like plant 1, the purple stem is fading a bit as the early skin on the stem hardens. It's split in one spot and the green skin underneath is showing. You can see this a bit in the last picture. 2. I'm beginning to think this one might be an indica. The leaves are fairly broad. I won't be convinced till it's gotten older though. I know the weed that this seed came from was definitely sativa, but who knows what type of plant pollinated it. 3. Branches are beginning to form, but they're not as far along as plant 1. 4. There ore only three fully developed sets of leaves on this plant. The fourth is still beginning to grow. I have two weeks left before I begin to flower them. Maybe then I'll be more able to determine if it's genetics, or actually the light settings that are effecting the growth of these two the most. As an extra little note, the soil for both of these is 2/5 generic potting soil, 2/5 coco coir, and the last 1/5 is a mix of perlite, small hydroton pellets, and gravel. Next time I do a grow, I'll make sure to include all this stuff earlier.

Day 18 of growth, and here's the heights.
Plant 1 is 7.5cm. Plant 2 is also 7.5cm. Plant one has finally caught up. I really think that I'm growing different strains, but I'm still going to be posting updates. Chinese weed could be really good. Plant 1 has more nodes than plant 2, and it's also growing its branches faster. Plant 1 looks sativa, and plant 2 looks indica. I can't wait to smoke these. Since their stems are thickening, they have both lost their purple hue.

oh and for those thinking he's crazy for growing weed consider that ketamine is their drug of choice in china. They snort it like hoovers in the clubs over there so the peoples' attitude towards drugs isn't so bad despite their laws. You can get away with a lot with a small bribe

Nine days till I start flowering. I need to track down some rubbing alcohol. I've got a small spider mite (or something similar) problem in one of the veg chambers, and I want to get rid of them before I start moving plants around. They're all over my last Deisel Ryder.
