basically i have a 600W HPS light and a whole grow closet set up but at what height should the seedlings be before i put them under the light and how close should the light be to the plant and for how long should i keep the light on them at this stage, please help

heat is the only physical limitation to light proximity. put them under and adjust the light to be as close as possible without burning them. to test...put your hand just above the plant. if you can hold it there and it feels okay. you will be fine. start the light at about 18 inches above your plant. 18 hours of light per day is perfect.

cool thanks, but there is 30 inches from the light to the floor of the grow closet is that enough space cas when the plants grow taller than 12 inches they then reach within 18 inches of the light would they then still be prone to burning even if they were stronger at the height of 12 inches?

the light height needs to be adjustable to allow 18" clearence to the top of the canopy all the time.
