INTRO:

ok so those of you who don't know me, I am the guy that made the "how to grow hydro" video back in March/April for the Rollitup.org seed contest (see link in sig).

well they showed up today, very stealthy might I say, and i felt it would be only right that I share this with the rest of the roll it up community. (ok so this grow isn't TECHNICALLY sponsored by this site, but they helped !

I'm doing an indoor grow, under a 600w HPS light and some CFL's for PART of the grow cycle (finally found a place that sells them).

I will be using soil mainly because I want to use 1 from each strain as a mother plant and I think that hydro is too risky for this purpose.

THE SEEDS:

These seeds were provided by GOLDEN SEED on behalf of Rollitup.org.

The pack I won was called MEGA MIX, and can be found here. GOLDENSEED megamix cannabis seeds- marijuana seeds uk

the pack consisted of 40 mixed seeds of the following varieties:

• the legendary Jack Herer
• Northern Lights
• BigBud
• Shiva Shanti
• Sweet Tooth#3
• mighty Mazar

I don't know which seeds are which because they are a mixed batch, so we'll just have to wait and see

SELECTING THE SEEDS:

I know it sounds crazy but I feel that my plants have always "talked" to me from seeds to buds, they let me know what's going on the whole time.

so the way I select my seeds is by laying them all out onto a piece of paper and look for the ones that seem to say:

"PLANT ME, I'll grow up to be big and strong so I can be smoked by all the Rappers and fuck up their careers " - shorty scary movie 2.

so yeah, I chose 10 seeds from the mix this way, but then after I'd gone and started them I came back to where I was selecting them and I found 1 stray on the floor... she was like

"please daddy!, I want to grow too *cute eyes*."

so i tucked her in with the rest of her sisters to make 11.

THE GERMINATION METHOD:

I'm a big fan of presoaking for a few hours, then tucking them into bed in some moist paper towel. as seen in a few photo's below.



I use water that has been boiled and then brought back to a little bit higher then room temp (to compensate for the fall in temp), and then transfer to soil once the tap root is about 1/4" to 1/2" long.

THE GROW BOX:

I'm trying something new for this one mainly because its been VERY cold lately (about 10*C) and I want to insulate them a bit better.



so I'm using a Styrofoam box (see above) with 1 CFL for now, until they sprout then I'm going to put 5 CFL's in there and get them to a decent hight before they go into the full size grow box which is about 9x9 floor space and 5' high... but I'll get into that later.

TARGET:

well I have 11 potential females

from this I would LIKE to get about 9 females (4-5 is more likely)

I would like to try and get about 2-4 ounces per plant (1-2oz/plant is more likely)

so my target is about 18 - 36 ounces all up (4-10oz is more likely)

hey , congrats. I watched the video and learned quite a bit. (and I voted) I am in the middle of a small grow with a bunch of different variables. I have been reading up on a few other grow journals (I must say that I am a prtty big fan of Matso101 and Beaner) but decided this would be my first comment. I cant wait to see what happens.

STILL DAY 1 (ABOUT 7HRS LATER):

I've waited until all the seeds sunk to the bottom of the mug.

I've placed the seeds on a piece of paper towel on a plate, with more paper towel over the top, then put the mug over the lot of it.

I've put the seeds into one end of the Styrofoam box and up the other end put a can that has been filed with boiled water then sealed.

This can will act as a heater for at least a few hours, that way the seeds wont go down to room temperature (about 12*C).

The only difference between what your doing and what im doing is, im doing it right.

Looking forward to seeing what you get from that Megamix pack - I'm amazed to see Jack Herer listed there - would be worth getting a couple or three packs of those just to see if you could get some JH out of them somewhere, as well as all the other varieties of course.

Day 2:

SEED PROGRESS

This is why I love this method of germinating seeds compared to just sticking them in the dirt and praying.

As you can see it's only been about 24hrs and they've already started to pop.

This is actually a bad thing for me, because now I have to be more motivated and finish off the grow box


Lights:

basically I've just gotten a bunch of ceiling mount light battons, and some 15w CFL's.

I'm only rigging up 2 at the moment because I only have 2 globes untill I find some stronger ones.

I've just wired them up on a parallel circuit (see Just Fucking Google It for details)

I then fastened them down on some old laminated timber.



****IMPORTANT NOTE****

DO NOT TRY AND DO THE WIRING YOUR SELF UNLESS YOU KNOW HOW, NEVER USE CHEAP WIRE OR WIRE THAT IS NOT GRADED FOR 240v (or what ever your local Mains power is)

BASICALLY KIDS... DON'T TRY THIS AT HOME IT MAY RESULT IN ELECTROCUTION, DEATH, OR EVEN WORSE... YOU CAN LOSE A NUT!

DAY 3:

INTRODUCING THE NEW ULTRA STEALTH BOX!!!!!



ok so its not that great in the covert department but at least its doing its job.

THE SETUP

ok so I was talking about the styrofoam box idea, well I put it to use today.

standard set up:
Plants in the bottom, 1 fan in, 1 fan out.


and then the lights over the top.



SEED PROGRESS

well all but 1 seed sprouted, I'm leaving it for a bit longer to see if it pops, if it hasn't in a week I'll just chuck it.

I cant say enough good things about golden seed!

Their seeds are just so healthy it's insane!

any way I would say that within a few hours I'll be seeing the first signs of plant above the soil.
