Default 400w closet organic s.c.r.o.g. - Jack Herer & Unknown

    Howdy.

I'm starting this a little late but I'll try to keep it current. A few months back I got some stash that consisted of two strains. One, was super premie, wet, chemmed out, and the other was slightly premie, moist, and chemmed out. Had there been any other options beside not smoking, I would have refused it. I haggled the price down and left unamused.

Once home I tried them out. Number one sucked. I gave all but the packed bowl away. Ugh. Number two held potential. I could tell it wasnt grown well, dried well, or cured at all. Unless you count sealing moist in a fridge curing. But I dumped out the lightly burnt crap and reloaded. What is that flavor? Well, besides too much nute and tons of chlorophyl. Oh wait a minute. I'm high. Whats that buzz? Could this be Jack? POP? GD this craps seeded too? Who the fu grew this? Amateur.

After allowing the better stuff to dry, the next day I removed four perfect seeds. And hit a bowl left out from the prior night. To my amazement, the ash even had a thick flavor struggling past the chems. Each bowl was the same, 1 hit high, 2 hits retarded, 3 hits who am I. I consider myself a very experienced smoker. Not many strains do anything past mild change of blood pressure, and few actually rock my world.

I felt at least half the genetics in those seeds had that potential. Wow, after almost fifteen years of not growing I was seriously considering getting off the grid, so to speak. I helped a pal out getting started a few years back, but I was mostly an info source, and a stash deposit . I started research on modern technologies, and decided a small s.c.r.o.g. would give me the best use of my space. Back in my day, I used 4" grid to hold up the lolly pops but this never occured to me back then to try this.

    Default the next step

I knew I could get a possible good mom out of those seeds, but to better my chances, the next time I saw my dealer, I asked if I could sift his shake for seeds. He then asks me if I want clones of those two strains. The amateur grower owed him some money and gave him a tray full. I thought it over and said yes. I asked what strains they were, and he changed the subject. He then produced a garbage bag with a clone tray inside. I drove slowly home, and went inside. WTF?????!!!!!!! This guy stuck 25 two gram nugs in rapid rooters. And then they remained in a humidome, in a garbage bag, on a porch, in summer, for 10 days. The various strains of mold were astonishing. I swear there were mushrooms growing off a few. I closed the dome and washed my hands. After a couple bowls to steady my nerves, I headed back in. What the hell was this guy thinking? I narrowed them out to two piles. One for the garbage disposal, and one for deep sanitization.

    Default clean up time

I decided the best treatment would be rapid pH shifting, and neem, combined with lots of rinsing, as I had no 35% H2O2. I made a few dunks of solution at ph 2.4, 6.8, and 11.5. I dunked the vegetaion in the acid, then the neutral, then the base, then the neutral, and swished around for 30 seconds each. I then left the whole cutting, plug and all, it a neem solution with an airstone for 10 minutes. Then I placed into the now sterilized tray and covered with a dome. Only half of these made it past a week, but those that did showed immediate improvement, while those that didn't declined rapidly. I'm sure this stressed the plants, and I prefer gradual changes, but I was not letting molds and fungi in my chambers. No signs of either showed after this treatment, and no leaf loss or burn occured on the ones that lived.

    Default lights

I placed the tray under some t5ho 65k tubes about 18" away, and lowered 2" per 2 hours the first day for a total of 12". The next day I lowered it 2 ", ans well as the next day. It was now 4" of the dome. Temp inside was 74f, and humidity was 94%. I checked the tray daily and misted the dome but tried to keep the foliage dry. There were roots established when I got the clones, but these were very brown and rotten. After 6 days, I saw new root growth, and gave them a very mild mico and worm casting tea. It took about 12 days before all had rooted thickly.

    Default more lights

At this point it was time for potting. I had already prepared a soil blend of roughly 40% FFOF, 30% FF light Warrior, 10% FF chunky perlite, 10% vermiculite, with the remainder a mix of manures, guanos, blood and bone meals, miycorrhiza, love. this cooked up a bit on my back porch.I wet this well and planted into half gallon pots. These went under the 4 x 54w t5ho bulbs, at 10" away. I gradually lowered to 4" over the next few days. It was here I realized my ventilation plan would not cut it. I was getting to 87f at points in the room. I had decided on 8 x 54w t5ho for flower and knew this was gonna make the temp rocket up. It was time to rethink things.

    Default Lights round three

Since my plan was for mor than 400w at flower, I decided a flow through 400w hid would help out. I got the ballast and bulb and attached them to a supersun 2 6" reflector. This I attacthed to my 140 cfm inline fan. As this exhausted into my bedroom, it made things uncomfortable after two days. I rerouted ducting through the attic and mixed the exhaust with my attic fan. This only served to get the temp to 82 as my fan had a hard time dealing with 28' of flex duct.

    Default Venting

I got a 6" hi flow fan and ran all new ducting. Crap this fan was loud in my room. I ended up mounting it in my attic hung from heavy duty bungee cords. This made it audible only from within the attic. So a few days later and I am pulling so much hot, humid air in my windows and doors of the house, that my a/c wont get things below 79 in my house. Previously I had always done full house grows, and room a/cs were standard, so I delt with heat differently. This tiny grow was using up funds, and creating stress for my lady. I picked a few brains and it was suggested I route the exhaust into my central a/c return manifold. Why didn't I think of this simple fix. Holes cut, fittings assembled, fan moved and cool room + cool house occurs. Ahhhh. Sigh of relief, and smoke a bowl.

    Default meet the ladies

These are the six that made it. 2 of strain A, and 4 of strain B. Unhealthy leaves are from prior to me getting them. These are 5 days under the mh.

The thermometer reads 4 degrees high when mounted against a wall. Infrared thermometer confirmed temps.

    Default Day 11 under MH

The two more vigorous clones, were more in veg than the other four. New growth resumed much faster on these two.
