Wudaheo first grow Blueberry DWC

Okay I guess I can start on my journal for my first grow.
My grow area will consist of a closet under the stairs for vegging. For flowering I got and 4x4ft tent off ebay for $110 shipped.

I started with DP Blueberry seeds (not feminized they cost too much )
I germinated 5 seeds on wet paper towel in ziplock bag. Too keep it warm I had the bag sitting on top of my cable modem.
On 9/04/08 my babies were born! In less then 20hrs after i put them ziplock bag!


I took the seedlings and stuffed them in root riot cubes. Then stuff the riot cube in 4" rockwool cubes that were sitting in a propagation tray. I was lightly watering the cubes every 2 days.

For lighting i'm using a 2x 24" tek T5 HO kit that was used on my saltwater fish tank. I had to rip it off my old aquarium canopy then i just nailed the t5 lights on piece of plywood i found.. its ghetto but works. After a couple days I switched out the reef bulbs to 6500k bulbs.
I have my lights running 24/7. Average temperature in the closed closet was 79f degrees the max it got was 84f. Theres no A/C in my room and its been like 90+f degrees outdoors.




I wasn't really sure which method i was going to grow! I should of planned this ahead of time. At first I wanted to do ebb&flow system or some kinda drip system.
Then I decided to go with DWC or Bubbleponics style since I already have air pumps.. While i was wasting time deciding my plants were growing ALOT faster then i expected in the progation tray! Roots were sticking out of the bottom and I didn't know until I looked on day 10. Thats when I started feeding them nutrients. I added 10 drops each of Canna Vega part A&B into a half liter bottle of water.


I will continue later with my basic DWC bubble setup. Please leave me any comments for my improve next time.

DAY 13 - Moved plants to the drip/bubble system.

I just used a 10g storage box with 6" net pots.. The other boxes available were just too tall. To make the holes for net pots. I first trace the top side of the pot with a pen on the lid. Then I used a utility knife/razor blade to cut the circle about 2-3cm smaller then the trace so the net pot doesn't fall through. I found its cuts better when u have the razer at and angle like this /

Then I dumped hydroton in then put the rockwool cube in.. it seemed too big! I think the rockwool will absorb too much water if i left the whole 4" cube in there. I had to rip apart some of the rockwool cube and got it down to about 2.5" wide with out damaging any roots. But rockwool is sticking out about 1.5" on top so i just left it.

For the dripper I just used a small water pump hooked up to a 4-way drip head. I got the tubings and the 4-way drip head at homedepot.
It was near all the sprinkler stuff. Water pump was set to go on every 6 hours.

For the bubbler I just used 4 airstones hooked up to a dual output pump to a splitter. One airstone under each plant. Im using full strength nutrient at this point. PH was average 5.6 and 1.6 EC. Room temp was 78-83 most of the time.

Day 18 Closet starting to smell like plants!

Mine are 31 days into flower and I am using soil but they looked identical and sprouted all in 24 hrs. got 6 out of ten females but all six are hermies !! This strain is 85% hermie so check them dilligently from the start of flower , believe me there is nothing wrong with my grow and all hermed but look at the buds they are frosty for 31 days !!!

Ok one of my plants is growing alot faster then the others. It a "mutant" with 10 fan leaves. I've been keeping my T5 HO lights about 2-3" from the top of the plants.



I will be getting my 400w mh/hps light ready in the 4x4 tent i have.

keep it up blueberry looks tasty and green !!!

A couple days ago I moved the 4 plants into the tent. 2 plants were put into each of the bins.
One of the plant was a bitch to move because it had a massive amount of roots growing around the 14" airstone stick! One plant got what seems to be nutrient burn? There was alittle browning at the tips of a couple of leaves.
BTW the way i noticed there seems to be ALOT more root with less water and more airbubbles.

I've been keeping 5.5-5.9ph and 1.9 EC

The tent doesn't have an air blower or my aircooled reflector installed yet.. I have to pick it up tomorrow at post office..
so right now I'm just blowing air directly into tent with the flap door open. It doesn't seem to help cool down anything that way.
Temp was 86f in the tent while 80 degrees outside. I'm using a 400w Metal Halide bulb I didn't expect it to be that bright and hot lol.

Big problem I though of today :
What happens if i get a male and female plant in same container..
The roots will be all tangled up once I find out the sexes..

Yeah, I've wondered about that same problem. Maybe a larger rez to keep space between the root balls? I'm sure somebody will chime in. In the meantime keep up the nice work. This thread may finally sway me over to DWC.

I just got my 6" air cooled hydrofarm reflector today Its alot bigger then I expected. I got it off ebay for $70 shipped and my 400watt lumatek ballast for $110. I have to wait for roomate to leave before I can install the reflector. For now I will start taking some clones and wait until the roots pop on those.. Then I will set the lights for 12/12.

As for the roots growing into each other .. for now i found a way to keep them away from each other. I just spin plant around a couple times and the roots bundle up on itself a little.

But I will be getting buckets soon so I don't have to worry about that anymore.

HEY WUDAHEO good looking grow my friend,have u taken the clones yet or not?

I installed my reflector today but I don't have the ducting tubes yet.
I took 2 clones from each plant today but I'm not sure if did it correctly!
All I did is look for a branch that has more then 3 sets of leaves. I cut it below the 3rd leaf set then cut off the lowest leaves. Then I dipped it in clonex and put it in root riot cubes. I sprayed my dome and clones with lots of water and put it in warm low light area. They started to wilt so I hope they surive

Once the roots show I will go into 12/12 light.
Also I will transfer the plants into a DWC 4 bucket system I got for $45 shipped after cash!
I've been making use of the 30% cash back from microsoft live/ebay.

Due to lack of response I don't think anyone tried it yet.

very nice there my friend,keep up the good work. when i do my clones they wilt for a day or two aswell,but they soon recover and flourish.. i personally have never tried flowering my clones as soon as they have roots,so i will be keping an eye on how the progress goes if u dont mind.

I mean I want to start flowering the "parents" only if the clones survives.
If they don't survive then I will have try to take more clones.

The "parent" plants are almost 14" already! I'm just worried about the height of the plants because my tent is 6ft high. So I only got max 5ft of height before plants burn.

oh sorry my misunderstanding about flowering the parents....lol.

whoa 14" is pretty tall if ur still vegging..if ur wanting to keep the height of those babies down.Im assuming that ur gonna LST(low stress train)them to keep the height in check??

DAY 35- Plants are 16"!? It was 90 degrees in grow tent today. Water level in both tubs were very low and I think it makes the plant grow faster lol. There was about 1.5" of water and the roots looked fine in all that bubble. I started off at about 4" of water.

For the clones only about 4 out of 8 look some what OK. The others look like they dead to me. I guess I can try to cut more clones since the plants are big.
I don't know how long its going to take my bucket system and flowering nutrients to ship.

hey wudaheo what up mate?... things are looking good there! well done

now for a silly question on my behalf .......when my friend are you gonna start flowering those juicy ladies that you have there,the reason for me asking this is because them ladies are gonna get mighty big(tall) on you(at least twice the size)so if they are 16" now then they are gonna go to at least four foot at the very minimum not taking into account that they may stretch a little bit more-what height have you left in your grow room?

Hey Wud, are you using tap water? I'm thinking of switching mine to a 10 gal reservior, about how far up in the tank do you keep the water level at? And when do you start to add more water if it gets too low?

Also can I find a water pump like yours at home depot? If so what isle can I find it in. Thanks
