Whats good RIU. I heard about this hempy bucket grow and it really caught my interest for a few reasons, for one the rapid growth and most importantly to me not having to carry up plants from my grow tent downstairs to my upstairs bathroom to water / feed my girls, and the cost was cheaper than growing in my normal Fox Farms soil and buckets. So i was wondering what issues should i expect to deal with? Ive grown in soil for a number of years, but this is my first time using a "hempy". I used 1/2 inch fittings and hoses to drain / flush / and check water level ( i use to be a plumber so i had the fittings and hoses laying around my house) the tub for 40 gallons did cost a pretty penny ($26 if anyone is interested)

Setup:

40 gallon tub
16 inch OSI fan
100% perlite
FloraNova nutes
108 watt T5 light for a week before going into grow tent with 400 watt Super-HPS
4 plants, all clones from Green Link Collective here in Seattle (they are a little stretched but healthy overall and it was buy one get one free, so 30 bucks for 4 plants was a deal in my eyes)

Also anyone have experience in growing these strains? this is my first time growing these 4 strains

Maple Leaf Indica
Purple Arrow
Blackberry Kush
Maui Wowie

WOW..that's one big hempy bucket....how much perlite did you use? how much water does it hold above the drain holes?

personally, I would have used a 3 gallon bucket for each plant, as having four plants together could become problematic.

I agree with the above posters... that's one HUGE Hempy bucket!!

The only problem I can see is if you start to develop issues on one plant due to a watering/feeding issue, you'll see it on all of them, and won't be able to do individual testing to sort it out.

Regarding the size of the bucket, I have two bins exactly the same on my balcony that contains two 6' tomato plants, plus a habanero plant, and the only issue I have with it is that it needs water sometimes twice a day (soil mind you). If you let them veg too long before flowering, you might run into root competition issues.

haha ya its a big one, i had my gf help me lift it to bring it into my house from my front yard when it was full of perlite and water and she ended up dropping it breaking off the flushing fitting on the bottom, but some JB weld and a new nipple fixed it quick. funny thing i was considering doing 3 gal buckets but then i saw this guys setup http://www.weed-forums.com/showthread.php?20954-Idiot-s-Guide-to-Hempy but he doesnt mention how big his bucket is, and my local hardware store "ace hardware" only had 40 gallon tubs. I plan on just growing huge single colas due to do the guy said his first hempy setup he had the same problem as you mentioned with buds getting to close together becuz he didnt cut off side branches then did another grow and a write up on football sized colas. My main issue is how im going to carry it down stairs, i live in a older house that has super narrow stairs and im in the middle of installing a new fuel system in my race car so i cant back the car out of the garage which connects to my grow room, but my best friend is 6'2 @ 260 pounds and was a boxer so im sure we will get it down stairs to my grow tent. So "World of hempy" ah? thank you much for the info. LOl you will get a kick out of this, i had to use 151 liters of perlite to fill it up and the res holds about 2 gallons of water, im personally strong enough to lift it myself but the tub is to wide to carry down my stairs so ill have to have my buddy help me.

nice i grow cherry tomato plants and peppers also, and thanks for the info i also heard from another forum that vegging to long will cause an issue becuz the plants explode in growth in a hempy which is why i was a little upset that the clones were a foot tall already when i normally get clones that are only 4 inches tall, but i have the vertical room for it (almost 8 feet)

- three types of basil, nine plants total (Lemon Basil is my fav)
- three dill plants at varying growth stages (perpetual)
- four cilantro plants at various stages (perpetual), including one that is done I'm leaving for seed
- two habanero plants
- one orange pepper plant
- three parsley plants (two variants)
- one sage plant (just planted two more)
- there's at least two more, but I can't remember what they are atm

100% organic, including the seeds

I haven't. Considering I just moved to this location a bit over a year ago and just got a south-facing apartment last April, I'm just testing. I'm in the market for a new house, but for the moment, I don't have space to grow even what I currently have, let alone cucs

fwiw, I *only* buy seeds from known long-time organic growers in regards to my vegetables (ie. I am 100% anti-GMO & toxins)... however, I commend you on growing your own food... its like printing your own money

Amen brotha, i love just walking outside and taking a fresh pepper off and eating it. Not to mention you will pay 5 bucks a pound for peppers where i live.
