Look what I finally did!

So I finally got a dry honey comb. It wasn't a long vac time that did it though. These pics are only after 12 hours. I've vac'd longer and gotten less. Also it sizzles when it hits my nail. I'm pretty sure it's water boiling off. I think between the humidity and I'm pretty sure condensation formed and dripped off my frozen butane cans as the 80 degree weather warmed them up. They were sweating big time. I had to stop the vacuum twice and wipe fog off the dome of my chamber. Moisture was collecting. So did I get honey comb crumble from an emulsification and I kind of cheated? Help?

looks nice.
what do you think about the sizzle and water? Also, what in your opinion gets this texture? Vac time and temp? Is the water a coincident? I def had a more consistent lower heat this time. It just waxed up way faster than any time before. Would it wax up faster on temp alone?

I dont think its water still if you vacuumed it. not sure about the sizzle. maybe nail too hot?

I think that texture is from extreme vacuum... taking all of the moisture, butane, some terpenes, and maybe even some thc out. sucking on it VERY hard for a LONG time. (mine took 8 days to finally dry out so it could be touched by hand)

it could have waxed up due to the type of strain it was, or how potent it was.

I mixed 7g kief with 7g bud, and it waxed in 12 hours.

I ran 14g of just shitty bud, waxed in 24 hours.

ran 2 oz of nice shake and it took 8 days to wax!!

ran a half oz of very shitty trim that had the kief removed from it, waxed in 3 days.

all temps at around 110F.

I still dont know what determines the speed of waxing exactly.

Well I'm pretty convinced its water. It's reacting with the hot oil on the nail and boiling off. It reminds me of when you drop water in a hot pan with oil. I am not 100% sure but that's what makes sense. I was wondering if anyone has had this happen before.

yeah I know the sizzle youre talking about. very weird to see it in wax though. was the starting material very clean trim? ive had the butane cans sweat on me too (are you using cold ones?) and the oil usually seperates from the oil instantly in the dish... and when you evap the butane, the water should seperate along the edges or wherever, it definitely wont mix with the oil (oil and water dont mix).

ive POURED my golden butane after a rinse DIRECTLY into warm water. it turned the water cold instantly, and formed lots of ice. but the oil was very nice, golden color once I got all the water out. neat experiment. I dont think it ruined anything so I dont think water is necessarily bad in some cases.

the water is making steam on the nail, and I think if you got water filtration, you got nothing to worry about. but if youre straight shooting it... it might be a little harsh.

very interesting though if blending your BHO with a drop or 2 of water, then vaccing it could speed up the waxing process. hmmm.....

By adding that moisture, you do in fact begin the process of nucleation.

Nucleation isn't exactly getting it to wax, but it definitely resembles wax. Its kinda that grainy sandy like texture.

interesting. that stuff looks good! youd never know by looking at it.

kinda looks similar to what I had... except I didnt have any water in it:

question: is your vacuum chamber floating/sitting around in a hot water bath while its under vac?

my reason to believe you see the steam/vapors atop your jar because water is getting inside, probably while you take it in/out..

that used to happen to me with my mason purge jar, id be likeeee "wow, that shit is still has soo much moisture, must keeeep purging" :p

i got tired of the hot water baths. moved forward :]

You talking to me? What's the sizzle then?
yes, dont know what to tell you maybe your nail is too hot, or maybe your definition of a sizzle is different then other.
that was my problem i thought my shit sizzled, then my friend brought over some stuff that sizzled....

does it jump off your nail????

No it does not jump off my nail. I hear a crackling sound as it vaporizes. I do get my nail hot but I do the same thing every time and my other waxes that I've made do not make this sound. Is like adding water to hot oil in a pan and letting it burn off. It crackles and sputters as the water reacts. That's the closest thing I can compare it too.

hmmmmmm when it crackles do little splats of oil hit the dome wall? does it hit the sides as if you where cooking bacon....
