Is it worth it or bull shit. Want to c what u guys have to say ime trying it at the moment here's what I am trying it with. Using 3 grams as a test run

We routinely winterize most of our oil. Plant waxes reduce the potency of our typical extraction about 8%, so removing them increases potency. The waxes are left behind with our topicals and roll around on the skin, rather than being absorbed. The waxes coat our lungs if we leave them in oil used for vaporization.

Non-winterized is more the exception when experimenting with new products and processes.

Are you extracting with a non polar solvent? How low do you take the temperature and for how long?

If you have done a non polar extraction, you most certainly have extracted non polar waxes, so not having any fall out during winterization, brings up the questions of how cold you got the alcohol solution and for how long, before filtering. Might you share your process and those two pieces of data?

Ya this is all new to me I used 99% froze for 48 hours u could c seperation it had a cloudy apperance on bottom half of jar used non bleached filter and used a heat pad and fan. Ime use to just a regular old purge or if.at buddys I use his vac purge oven

i used 99.9 iso on my BHO put it in the freezer on friday pulled it out on a tuesday let it all filter while in the freezer nothing

I'm pretty new at this too, but I winterized my liquid butane before it evaporated. I filtered it, then i cooked it down to scrape. I've never started with BHO before. Does it matter or change the end product?

Winterizing is technically extracting with a non polar solvent and then redissolving it in a polar solvent, before lowering the temperature and then filtering out the non polar waxes. Filtering the butane doesn't do the same thing.

Is winterizing an efective way of also removing any residual butane from the BHO since the butane evaporates at a lower temp then the alcohol? If so, is it comparable to using a vacuum set-up as far as removing the excess butane goes?

Yes I understand the polar/non polar thing. I didn't filter just butane, I filtered butane and ethanol mixed together. Then because butane boils around 32 degrees and ethanol boils around 173, the butane is removed first. Then vacuuming is done without heat, because ethanol boils out at 28hg at sea level under vacuum.

I want to know if it matters how far you take the butane down before you add ethanol. Is it better to A. Make BHO, then dissolve in ethanol, winterize, then filter or B. extract with butane but then add ethanol right away before its reduced, then winterize?

In terms of removing butane it may even be superior.

Evaporating away the alcohol from a winterized BHO will remove the residual butane. A vacuum is faster and will do it a lower temperature.
