I am a nurse working in Australia and I have been writing to every health minister in every state trying to establish a medicinal marijuana research centre, or get a grant to do research, or to create a medicinal marijuana program. Eevery minister has written back to me and said "NO WAY!".

All except 1. The NSW health minister invited me to make a submission online to a committee that is considering the idea of a medicinal marijuana program. Any person who has a legitimate need for weed, please make the effort to make a researched submission with your own personal story.

Do not forget to mention that there are other ways of taking medicinal cannabis other than through smoking and that is why larger prescriptions are necessary. Being from Canada as well, I have my medicinal marijuana permit for 20 grams a day. I do not smoke it. I make teas and marijuana oil, which is used to keep tumors out of my body. I had cancer previously.

Also, please consider refraining from using the words and phrases: 'marijuana' and 'medical marijuana' as these have negative connotations to them by government and law enforcement which are watching this committee very closely. Instead might I suggest the really awesome phrase - 'medicinal cannabis' as then no particular industry owns that phrase.

Here is the address:http://www.parliament.nsw.gov.au/prod/parlment/committee.nsf/0/7641E8D87AC53FB3CA257ABF00134E57

You guys only have til this coming friday - the 15th of Feb to make your submission so please put the pedal to the metal and get something done quick like. And thank you for making a serious - factual submission.

It has to start somewhere in Australia and NSW is it. Doesn't matter where you are in Australia. Tell them you'll even move there!

Is anyone doing anything or am I the lonely individual? Shit people, this is your chance to fight and you're not doing anything...

Then you have to accept that Australia keeps it as illegal. You have no say and no right to complain if you don't try and change the law to create such a program. On the other hand if you feel you have the right to have access to it for medicinal reasons, you should say so. You don't have to confess by saying I don't want to buy it illegally. But if you did, I'd tell them that I would much rather buy from a dispensary or a designated grower with a permit...then that's the same point tens of thousands of people are making in Canada and the USA. The only difference is that people in Canada and the USA have had the balls to take the government to court over this and that's also what needs to happen here. This is your country guys. When you going to stand up and claim it as your own?

Sincerely appreciate you posting a comment here as it helps to start conversation that needs to happen.

Well that would be me mate. I go between Canada and Australia constantly. I was invited by the health minister to make a submission. I don't know what the legal standing of a non resident is but I am on a legal work visa and in laymans terms I should be allowed to have access to all types of drugs that can help me. I had cancer in Australia, surgery, and treatment. I was sick as a dog after each treatment session and I had to smoke medicinal cannabis to stop the yuckiness that came on after radiotherapy. They gave me anti nausea drugs but that just gave me diarrhea. You don't need that when you're so ill from cancer and treatment. And guess what else I found out first hand and later confirmed in my medicinal books? Smoking ganja stops diarrhea. Absolutely true in my personal experience. So next question, could someone who is a non resident take medicinal access to court and challenge the illegality of it? That's a question for the committee to answer. You guys only have today and tomorrow and then that's it. Do something for your country! Do something for yourselves! Personal testimony is so important. So are legal challenges. Do both. Don't leave it to a few foreigners eh!

I did it anonymously and stated why I did so in the submission. Just out of curiosity how wide spread have you got the word out on this?

Not wide spread at all man. I'm working as an RN so I am pretty busy. I personally have been doing a letter campaign to all the state governments over the previous 18 months. I also spoke to people in person and I did my own submission, plus I did this roll it up thread. Thank you for contributing to the NSW committee's investigation on medicinal cannabis. At least two people made an effort.

wonder if the likes of tony bower got involved. he may have heard about it already since I think he still lives in nsw. is it to late to have any more submissions? because he would have a horde of patients behind him willing to back this

Yeah I'm not too sure hey, i think once the date passes, no more submissions are accepted.

Should've got Shanti to put in a submission, he is from NSW after all, would've been nice to have someone who's dedicated to producing good quality strains to put in an expert submission! Ah well, too late now i guess!

I applaud your great efforts and great heart, and am happy you are still with us :) I have had cancer throughout my entire family, and I do know the problems radiotherapy causes. Cannabis greatly helps it, in many ways, and I personally believe good extracts being ingested can eliminate the need for it.

I would love to do anything I can to help the government, but more importantly the people of Australia to open their eyes a bit to the corruption of modern medicinal practices and how Cannabis can benefit everyone in some form or another.

If you ever need any help with anything, let me know! These are the sort of movements I live for, helping people is my motive!

Hey guys. I apologize for not being on here for the past few dates. It took a few days but you guys started to take notice. Human nature. People are slow to act. If I got my residency and my citizenship here in Australia I would run for federal government under a new party. But a problem grassroot campaigns have is that they're one issue only and I am not. You always get shot down by conservative party's on their tough on crime attitude so the way in my opinion to get them on board is to _really_ get tough on crime. But the right type of crime. My idea is to establish a medicinal cannabis program but I would bring back the death penalty for serial pedophiles and extreme animal abusers. People want the scum of the earth taken out in my opinion and to me, there's no worse a person than one that attacks the vulnerable. I would also attract voters by promising the first year my party is in office that all citizens get tax free income. Taxes do not run the entire operations in Australia. That's a falsehood. But I could gain a lot of revenue through establishing tax havens and by creating new industries like medicinal cannabis and brewing of spirits. If you wanted tax free revenue the second -4rth years, you'd have to do five things for the community - donate money to five specific local causes.

It all comes down to mental health. If you struggle on income, it wears you down. If you work 5 days a week, 2 days off is not enough to relax and to look after yourself, your partner, your animals, and your children. You and I know that we hate politiceans and that the most trusted health profession is not the doctor but the nurse. So when people ask me what I want to specialize in, I surprise many by saying I want to run for federal government.

But I do not yet know if I will stay in Australia. If I do, then I'll announce my political ambitions right here. A nurse and ex military man in federal government would do your country a lot of good in my opinion.

What do you guys reckon?

PS.

You guys can start writing to health ministers. Send in books on medicinal cannabis so they get educated because right now, these guys are only reacting to what doctors tell them.

Hi Buckets.

Sorry about the lateness of my reply, I don't do the forums much. I just wanted to say that I’m a grower (not a dealer) and I very much support the cause. Marijuana is not a dirty word. It's a botanic description and the term we need to disassociate Medical Marijuana with, is DRUG.

My feelings towards legalizing the use of Marijuana for Medical purposes is to forget about the politicians, they only do as they are told, the people we need to convince are Doctors. Please let me know what you think?

Do you use Marijuana for medical purposes? Hope it’s not rude to ask.

I grow about 2-3 ounces every 10 weeks. Most of which I give away.

Regards G23
