If you are only going to buy only one light bulb....go with the HPS for the entire process. The reality is that the blue spectrum of the MH is better for the veg cycle and the red spectrum of the HPS is best for the flowering. Also, both can be used simultaneously throughout the entire process for the complete spectrum of light required. As mentioned, if I had to use only one bulb...HPS...just my opinion. Happy growing!

I grew a shitload of autos starting a few months ago looking for a decent strain since we can't grow photos outdoors in AK. I had some under MH to veg and others under the HPS. Eventually all ended up under the HPS. No discernible difference in the end. In my limited experience.

The reason you arent getting any new answers is because you have already been given the best advice possible. Use it and you will succeed!

check my grow in my signature. I used MH/MH for first week then switched to HPS/MH for the next two weeks, now I have switched to double hps. This works best for achieving bushy non stretched out plants.

Exactly what everyone has said here will work, the ones that were answering serious that is.

Also there are more expensive but more useful HPS bulbs that can now cover more of the Blue spectrum without sacrificing any of the red spectrum to do so. Before we know it if we all aren't using LED's we'll be using HID HPS/MH bulb that uses the best of both HPS and MH bulbs in one haha.

ALSO IF YOU HADN'T BOUGHT THE MH I WOULD HAVE SUGGEST CFLS FOR THE VEG CYCLE!

OR..

Possibly run both CFL's and MH's if you're running a one way ballast for either or. Now a days everyone has the switchable ballasts that are electronic anyways. So my idea is more for people who can only afford either MH or HPS complete sets at the time instead of a mix haha.

Str8 t5s the entire crop life? Nugs must be airy as hell. If u want nice dense solid tight nuggets then dont cheap skate ur way out of the hps. Point blank u can use a mh or cfl or t5 but i promise u, u will never come close to a 1000 watt hps harvest, both amount and nug density wise. If u dont care about airy buds then do wat ever u want u will produce flowers by all these lights. But the 1000 watt hps is the rolls royce of lights when it comes to flowering. Any 1 who says diff has no idea wat they are talking about. Peace
