question about growing in an aerocloner

Hi all, been a long time since ive posted. Forgot my old username and password so had to start fresh.

I have a 30g storage bin that I converted into an "aerocloner" but I was planning on using it through the entire grow and start with clones. Pretty much following Stinkbud's method. My problem is, I built it without utilizing a reservoir. I have the pump and the "spray rack" in the bin and I have a drain with valve connected to the piping.

My dilema is that after just a few weeks it seems like the root tips would be submerged in the water. How do people get around this without having an external reservoir? Ive been looking but havent found much.

The plan is to start with clones, veg, and then swap out the lights and cycle.

Any help is appreciated. Thanks all!

Gotchya. I guess ill have to make the reservoir then. Shouldn't be too hard. Any rule about the reservoir being to be the same size as the "cloner" or can it be smaller?

you need rails like stinkbud to transport the rez water into.. You could try to replicate his cloner (a stacked configuration) but eventually the roots would seek the reservoir as they grow longer. Or, as was said, once they hit the reservoir water you could just trade your pump for airstones and go DWC

switching from aero to DWC wouldnt shock them?

The inside diameter of the tote is 27"x18" and I would be adding 6.5"-7" of water. Thats just about as high as you can go to fill completely over the pump. From the water line to the bottom of the netpot's is 12" of space for roots.

27"x18"x6.5" = 3159 cubic inches
1cubic inch = .0043gallons
3159x.0043 = 13.5 gallon reservoir
this math might be wrong so please correct me

Ill probably do three plants in the center of the tote. My cycle timer is 1 minute on 4 minutes off. 400w mH and HPS. And ill be starting with well rooted indica clones. The plan is to set up a 5x5x7 grow tent with a 6" vortex fan and carbon filter

tips, comments, and concerns please discuss. Its been a few years since my last grow and that consisted of a few failed micro grows and a successful single outdoor grow. If this method doesnt work out, I will plan on switching to the Hempy Bucket method before trying the DWC. Thanks for the help.

Remembered my old user name and password. This is the account I will be using, I will no longer post under the tag "jerms" :)

Here are some pictures of the unit.

so when the roots run out of space and start getting submerged do you just run both sprayers and air stones? Sounds simple!

Right. In my case once my roots touch the water I might as well turn off the pump and sprayers, fill up the res to completely submerge the roots, and just run two big disc-airstones. Cant run both DWC and aero?

On the 1200w trainwreck grow in my signature, i had a rubbermaid that was half full of water with a pump submerged and misting the roots aerostyle but also ran 2 airstones, one on each side of the rubbermaid under the root balls.....4 plants in the rubbermaid filled up over half of my large grow tent, everything worked great using both aero and dwc in the same unit, just had to add water almost everyday towards end of flowering cuz they drank a ton.
